Well, Nibs didn't fall off a mountain, which means that Kléber is our new leader by a handsome 50 point margin. The other person to benefit from Nibali's performance was andyp, who moves from 7th to 2nd.

Fear not, though, there are still 300 points to play for this season, meaning we could yet have a few more twists before the end.

It was the same three currently at the top who fought out the win last year wasn't it?

It was always a bit of gamble with both Menchov and Nibali, but kudos for Kleber and Andyp to not go with the majority flow and do very well out of it. Interesting the difference between Kleber and Andyp is exactly a one-day race win...

And look, GroupofOne's there again, for yet again a top 10 place finish

Yes indeed. Last year, after the Vuelta, the scores looked like this:
    andyp 1296
    FJS 1281
    Kléber 1263

And by the end looked like this:
    FJS 1403
    andyp 1401
    Kléber 1388

FWIW, none of the top 3 scored any points in Paris-Tours, and only FJS scored in Lombardia... getting 2 points thanks to Cadel Evans' 10th place finish.

And yeah, GroupOfOne's consistency is amazing!

It seems very close 200 points separating the top 20.

Or rather sad, depending on the way you look at it. I'd like to point out I did 'win' the Giro and TdF and get a podium at the Vuelta, so I'm not lucking in. I just had some good steak back in May...

With the World Championships over and just two 50 pointers to go, Kléber's lead of 48 points is starting to look like an unbeatable margin. He could technically seal the overall title next Sunday if he scores more points than FJS and andyp.

Well, none of the leaders managed to score any points in Paris-Tours. That means one thing - it all comes down to the final race of the season once again. However, Kléber is still in a relatively comfortable position. 48 points in front with only 50 more on offer, FJS basically needs to pick the winner in Lombardia and hope Kléber misses out altogether.

Well, another season is done for the year, with the 5th PTP competition being won by Kléber. Well done to him - led since the Canadian races, but very consistent throughout the entire year.

The runner-up spot goes to andyp for the second consecutive year, while PTP neophyte Snorebens rounds out the podium.

Special mention to FJS, last year's winner, who could have retained the title going into today's race. He made a big gamble, which didn't pay off, but chapeau for giving it a go.

    Final overall scores

Wow ! Dead chuffed - thanks so much for your hard work AFX and chapeau indeed to FJS and a death or glory bid...

Will be back next year for sure - whether no Valv piti points in the early season will curtail early form like this year we will see.

One small error to report - the honour of 11th place belongs to Shocked as I gambled on Nibali demoting me to a lowly 12th.
Thanks Afx and well done Kleber.
  • If that's the correct scores then well done to everyone, especially Kleber and comisserations to Art Vandelay.

Personally, I'm well chuffed at making the Top 10

But the biggest thanks, as ever, go to afx. As I said after too many shandies during Eurovision, we all heart afx

Thanks for running it afx, has kept me interested in the racing right through the season!

It was my first time this year. I was flirting with top 5/10 for a lot of the year but dropped off badly in the last few weeks. 13th feels surprisingly high I guess.

Anyway, thanks for this, completely awesome way to keep on top of racing. Thanks for the time and effort.

cumulonimbus finished higher than I thought after picking armstrong for the tour

I guess everyone picking menchov for the vuelta helped

the lead swapped around a fair bit all year.
