Ah well, fair enough then. I like stem mounts but they don't fare so well with lumpier stuff do they?Uncompromising extremist0

Me and a buddy and mine had a lot of fun at the end of a long season, playing about with cameras for this our first attempt at a mountain bike vid. It has given as loads of ideas for this summer. Looking forward to the snow melting, so we can get on the mountain again.

Cat, I take it that's a bar mount? It's, uh, a wee bit seasick-making You might have tried this already but the closer you mount the camera to the steerer, the less of a dramatic swing you get while turning the bars- it rotates more instead of slewing around. Hang on, this one shows it quite nicely...

Really surprised me how much of a difference it makes. Mine fail a wee bit because of the cables though
I like those two videos, the trails look great, good music, only think that would improve it would be just one or two stationary shots, perhaps head on, just to break it up abit.0 -
Cheers! Yeah, that whole set of videos is very samey, but I think I'd have been killed if I'd stopped to do static shots, for some reason that drives all my mates mad Need to figure out how to work my other camera and get it stuck on Chris's seatpost, he's pretty much always just in front of me so that'd give a nice counterpoint I reckon.Uncompromising extremist0

My new toy from the wife. A GoPro HD. This is my first time with a cam and editing.
Later on I will try to start playing with different angles. Hope guys like it
BTW you guys have some pretty cool vid's. Nice one!! 8)
This is me riding my new Scalpel. The chain had slipped, no power and down I go, ribs are still hurting

This was a long descend, elevation was about 1260ft. We had to stop twice due to some brake's overheating plus someone was using v-brakes so it was dangerous in case his rims overheated then tires could have blown off.

both times i've taken my £12 cheapo camera out i've failed to get anything. 1st time i crashed and hit the camera pretty hard and when i got home it said the files were corrupted. i tested it at home with a few recordings and it was fine. 2nd time i took it out, and when i went to press record it was dead, i don't know whether the cold zapped the battery or something? got it home, charged it and tested at home again and it's fine! anyone else had problems with the cold?0

I think i had problems with the cold, i was out in the snow up at rosedale a while back, camera on, pressed record, everything was flashing all the right colours etc had a damn good ride out, nailed some things i didnt think i would so was very excited to get back and watch.
only to find out there was nothing on the camera at all.
Not really sure what happened there. tested it afterwards and it recorded normally. soo.......0 -
Here is one from a short ride I did today to test 2 things.
First was my helmet mount, wanted to see if the angle etc was all ok. Seems alright to me, what do you lot reckon?
Second was my new spring in the Pikes, which is a massive improvement over the standard one.

Height looks OK, seems to be off to the right and at an angle though? Good stability though, better than mine from the way it tracks over those rocky trails I reckon.Uncompromising extremist0

Sadly that's about as good as it gets due to the shape of my helmet (steady on now). That's why I've always gone for bar mounts in the past.
it's fairly stable there because it's really well wedged into a vent.
Tomorrow, I may try to fashion a chest mount.0 -
Chest mount would provide an interesting view.
What about those cameras that you can get in a pair of glasses? They just seem overly expensive to me and poor quality video.'09 Rocky Mountain Fusion0 -
Got a GoPro HD here too and loving experimenting with it.
Here's my two latest movies:

Chest mount was rubbish, luckily though, I used static shots to make up this video of my local Trails

Video from my local woods today:

They ran the Motorbike time trials there over the winter, then when they finished, they filled in all the deep ruts and repaired any damage. This has left a collection of about 15 shortish, flatish, but very twisty and technical XC routes.
Some of them are a right b@stard to find, but that's all part of the fun.0 -

OK, this is annoying. I accidentally left my Gopro recording yesterday, and because I'm too lazy to upgrade the firmware it's recorded a 4gb file that isn't quite right- it won't play on windows media plater or edit in movie maker. But, it WILL play in videolan, and it has some nice stuff in it. So obviously it's recoverable, I just can't figure out how. Videolan has some conversion options but they always fail for reasons unknown. Any suggestions?
PS, early indications are Gopro chest mount for the immense and decisive win.Uncompromising extremist0 -
There are a couple of tools to repair damage and reindex the file but it depends what OS you're on. Easiest thing is to run it through VirtualDub, edit what you want and resave it. Or convert and resave in another format using something like SUPER.0

Cool. I'll check out virtualdub, thanks!Uncompromising extremist0
