Anyone get a nice explanatory email from Dave at Planet X, as promised by Matt, after not getting their stem on ebay?...

Anyone not like their 44cm and want to sell them ?
My mate went a shade of green when I told him how much they were !
    He want's a pair now.

Just about to re-tape mine with some Bike Ribbon Eleganza, the used S-Works stuf is just a bit to phat.

    Cheers

Yes me! I was going to put them on ebay tonight, but will happily do a deal to save the ebay hassle & fees! I liked the bars, but they don't suit my hands at all.

Only his lump it one I posted here, I'm guessing you have had a remorse filled message from him?

Aye... The dust has settled now, so it's obviously ok... Never use Planet X again!
I'll go now, before I slip into a rant...

  • I really like the bars so far... very comfy for me :)

Thanks for recomending the chain NapD. Put it on my new bike and it certainly is better than the Sram it replaced. I do not notice it anymore so it does a good job. Wonder how long the finish lasts on them though?

  • I might get rid of mine, I think my ape hands are a touch too big for the drops after holding them for a while :(

I went out today for the first ride with new bars/stem set up... Very comfortable, I think. Now managed to get rid of all the stem spacers below the stem, too.
A few more rides, and if still comfy, I'll re-cut the steerer.

I think I've seen it attributed to Mike Sinyard of Specialized ? But I could be wrong on that.

    Gary Fisher I think.

    Keith Bontrager apparently ;-)

    You are all evil.

Just bought one, as the wife is away for 5 days and I have a fantastic window of postage delivery before she'll notice.

I think on our upcoming L2P ride there will now be about 4 of us with these lol.

Will be my first exercise in retaping my bars also - any tips on what you OCD types care about when taping your bars? I'm a sloppy old sod and would probably just twist it round with my eyes shut.

Just need to find a nice reasonably priced stem now!

If you put the tape on a radiator for a few mins before taping it makes it easier. Taping is something you get better at with practice I think. Tape is so cheap that you can afford to get it wrong anyway.

    Great link! Thanks mate.
  • Well i took these out for their first outing yesterday. 70 odd miles on the Mad March Hare Sportive so they took a full pounding of everything I could give them from sprinting to grinding up hill to full on tucked in aero stylie.

Now I must have small hands because these fitted me purrrrrrrrrrrfectly. They are without doubt the best £30 I've ever spent. I've never spent so long on the drops as I did yesterday. That little extra piece at the ends of the bars is just a superbly sized hand hold for me. They have improved my riding position ten fold on what was already a very comfy position.

All I need to do now is get a better shade of celeste handle bar tape and re do them other than that they were perfect :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
