I found five of them and decided to pick the last of the five as it has the biggest file and the next to latest date, am halfway through the download, and have removed/saved the original from my microsd and will store it on there when done, i'll give you an update on how it performs with my garmin in roughly 20mins so keep an eye on this space.....':!:'

Hey Maloo.......your'e a star bud !!!!!! have put it on me garmin and yes your'e right, it does show more detail, more than the topo map i had which garmin were damn cheeky to charge £149 for, although i got it at a fraction of the cost in the bundle package.....and yes the cycle trails and paths are much more detailed too......':D' i have yet to try it out with the tracklogging and the routing, have you had a chance to try these out yet ??

excellent :D I only done a little bit of testing. Created a route with bike route toaster of my local loop and it worked a treat.

i found some paths nearby my house in a newly created 'park' which were only made less than 6 months ago and they are on the map too, so it shows that its being updated regularly.

My guess is that every 6 months or so we should be able to go to andyg/maps and download the latest map.

I was even wondering if there are any actual 1:25000 os maps that are available free out on the internet anywhere and if they would work ok considering that you can purchase these highly detailed os maps for viewranger on gps enabled mobiles and upload them to the fone, ams ure somewhere this must be possible, although they would have to be in the GMAPSUPP.IMG format to work with a garmin, what you think ???

I have just come across this site........http://talkytoaster.info/ukmaps.htm

Here you can add any trails/paths you come across and log with your gps onto the maps and then transfer to your gps for yourself and anyone else to use, it's quite a good idea, the original 1:25000 os maps are under license and aren't available freely (so they say) but i'm looking for 'em, they must be around somewhere !!!!!

I ve also come across file conversion software so if one can purchase proper os mapping for mobiles then a possible transfer must be around the corner !!!!!!!

HMMMM food for thought there Stu............

  • Right I've bought the Haribo, put the steed into the lbs for a service, (although by the sound and cost of it the're gonna rebuild the thing) and had convinced myself to just get out and ride, but it's just occured to me that although I accept I'm probably going to struggle getting up the hill, I've only ever come down the blue route at Llandegla and that was hairy enough. What route are you taking down??

I'll join you on the struggle up that bloomin long hill at Llandegla ...i've only got up 2 times  .
I'll be doing the red route as I'm too slow to do the black I'd cause a mile long tail back

  • Oh, so you can choose your own way down? How much more technical/difficult is the red route anyhow?

The red has bigger berms and if you really rideat it you can launch yourself good and proper skyward :D.
I do the red untill the bits where all the trails meet up, then the blue and green split off and I go back in on the last bit on the blue as I've not managed to get down the last 2 steep berms then the bridge drop down to the bike wash, I chicken out.

@Sandomingo - why not do what I'm doing, have a go at what you want to do then have an hour on the skills course and then go round again on the Red :)

i keep forgetting about that last bit, i like it but then again i would. it is the most difficult bit on the red course and possibly on the black as well, you have to really watch out for the descent off the bridge cause if your not careful it can throw you over the side of one of the following berms

i don't know if the bit where they all meet is at post 26 or not but read this........

There is a trail diversion at the end of the Red Trail- Post 26. Please use the Green and Blue Trail finish to return to the Visitor Centre.

    ive ridden all the routes
i like the red, its more flowy and faster than the black
though its possible to do the first proper black offshoot (no the dirt jumps) and come back to the red before you have to start doing the massive black climbs
