Hi to Miss Bint, you would be more than welcome to join us anytime.

Would love to join you guys who are going out this weekend but unfortunately my parents go away on Friday and I have Saturday and Sunday to rip their bathroom out and knock all the tiles off before the plumber comes to start installing the new one on Monday, Tuesday PM the walls and ceiling need skimming so they can dry on Wednesday before the tiler can come on Thursday and Friday then the sub floor needs to be laid, ceiling painted and then the plumber can come back to finish off, electrician next to do lights and extractor, flooring guys last and all before the parents come home on Saturday 10th. In this time my Other Half also goes back to work so I'm full time Daddy.

Gonna be a busy couple of weeks, I'll be glad to get to Llandegla for a fookin rest!!!!!

Ace ... downloaded a free map from the t'internet which has far more detail than the map that comes on it. Plus somehow it even picks up a gps signal from inside the house :shock:

Yeah mine picks up the signal from indoors, do you mind giving me the link for that free map you got ??

When you uploaded the map to your dakota did you store it on the microsd card (external/removable card) ??

I copied it straight onto the Dakota itself inside the Garmin folder

How does it behave with the garmin ? i know that the basemap you replaced isn't available from garmin unless you send the unit back to them to 'fix' the baesmap back in.....

Does the map include the contour lines or is it the same as the openstreetmap, i just checked openstreetmap out on t'internet and although it does show more detail, paths etc it doesnt show contour lines........

well its kept the basemap on it as well so I can always revert back if needs be, but seems to be working well except cant figure out how to get it to autoroute to places. But apart from that its ace , and yeah has contour lines

Are you able to switch from the baesmap to the opensreetmap within the devices menu ??

How did you tell it which one to default to ??

Have just been checking out my garmin, it doesn't allow me to choose between basemap or another map on the internal memory, not that i can see of anyhow but i can download the openstreetmap onto another microsd card and use it that way, the topo mapping that is on my microsd doesn't show all paths/bridleways although it shows contour lines as does the openstreetmapping, i'm gonna get myself another microsd card and do it that way........

will have to get together and compare the two, are you goin Llandegla on the 10th ??

Nice one bud, will get another microsd this w/end and stick openstreetmap onto it, all this info we are finding out is a lot more than garmin provide you with which is bloody typical and downright criminal of them considering the amount of hard earned cash that we part with to buy their products.
