The viewranger software is better than the topographic supplied with garmins as regards detail, i'm due to get some tracklogs / memorymap mapping for mine than i can put onto the external micro sd card.

The grumble i have is that the mapping software is cheaper for gps fones than for gps's like garmin, wether it be the 705,605 oregon etc; how much do you pay for a specific area ??

i paid £15 and it gave me so many square km in a tile format to download whenever i want,
so far i have downloaded 4 tiles at cannock and another 4 at ladybower, and i still have credits for more, plus now you can get that cycle map as in route toaster for free, just have to download it and store it in the cache

the downside is that it sucks battery life, i think i can get about 2-3 hours with vewranger in full tracking mode

When i got my 605, the GB topographic was included as a bundle package, for the mapping i paid around £60 for the whole uk, the basemap that is initially installed is very basic and doesn't show any paths or tracks so you have to get the GB topo, on it's own the GB topo is around £116 !!!!!!

I can get tracklogs mapping which is proper OS mapping like the viewranger for £29 = per 40 square km roughly, tiled areas.

I found the GB topo adequate enough as i can add trails/ paths to it as i track them or upload from BRToaster.

But you have to have a good sense of orienteering to understand / workout the topo mapping to utilise it's full potential.

I get 12 hours on a single charge, and i found out that it's totally waterproof when i fell into that big puddle on the roman road, the bike ended upside down with the gps fully submerged in the shite!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A mate suggested we get good lights before Xmas so we could get some riding in mid-week. I got a 900 lumens MTE light, he got a tax bill to pay and never got around to buying lights so I've never used it!!! Was thinking about getting another so one is on the bars and one is helmet mounted but there's no point if they aren't getting used.

i got some lights september ish last year hope 4, but once the weather went cold it was really miserable out there at night, so i don't really like it, every so often the club persuade me to go on a night ride with them, and it just reminds me how much i don't like night riding in winter
