    Evening people,

Apparently we are going to be missing Cheshley tomorrow due to unforseen issues that prevent his leaving Yorkshire.

Just been for a final check of the trails and they are roling nicely.

10:30 at the Clock tower at the bottom of the village you can't miss it just follow the hill down through the village and its smack in front of you. Big tall thing with a clock on it blokes standing around on an array of different MTB's. We are leaving at 1100 prompt

Bring the hardcore hardtail you'll be requiring a bit of bounce onthe front end but as we known full sus is for girls anyway

    Hi Dave,

Just got back and wanted to say thanks for showing us around and putting together a great route, even the uphills seem not so bad from the comfort of the armchair.

    Hi Mike,

No worries it was a pleasure to show you guys around a few of my home trails, if you fancy getting out around here again drop me a line and we'll sort something out... Kev & Tammi don't live far away and they have some great riding around them, the same goes for Donkeysled, similar terrain just a bit further south on the Chiltern scarp.

Regarding CYB, I'm seriously considering it but it partly depends on whether I can sort accomodation. I'm also a little concerned as to whether my very limited skill and dexterity will be sufficient to cope with the Dragon's Back. I was brought up in North Wales so am aware that the Welsh are a bunch of nutters. I'm guessing that a red run by their standards is probably quite tough. Will it be more difficult than what we did at Cannock?

Also, what standard are those who are going as although I know you'll all wait for the slowest I really hate being the slowest, especially if it's technical.

Edited to add - will I need shin/knee pads and if so, can anyone recommend a good vfm set?

    hi dan, you'll be fine.

reds grade trails are for more advanced riders, but nothing we as a group havent seen before on natural terrain or on the monkey trail. although it is difficult terrain they generally steer you towards the easier option on the trail anyway, you have to ' opt in' for drops etc, meaning you have to steer towards drops if you want them and the jumps are mostly tabletops so if you dont clear them you land on top of them. you can take a red trail as fast/ knarly or as slow as you want.

cyb is definitly a place to spend a couple of days

also I'd never ride somewhere that rocky though without my 661 kneepads.

have a good one chaps, i won't make it as i've stupidly agreed to do the sleepless in the saddle that weekend!

Thanks. I just need to consider the logistics of getting there and back now. A friend of a friend had a fall recently and won't be able to go out on their bike again until the end of the year due to injuring their knee and they were wearing pads so could have been a lot worse. It would seem I should get some.

I've just had a look at the 661 website and there's quite a lot of choice. Can anyone recommend what I should go for?

    A lot of people use 661 pads like these http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=9590

i have 661 evo knee pads, they work fine but the materail on the side of the pads can start to wear out after just a few months
i actully have two pairs one large i got when they first came out and a medium cause i thought the large were to big. now the large are in fine condition but can slide down my leg every now and again. the medium on the other hand are falling to bits

i do keep looking at the hard coated pads that cover your shin as well. but thats cause i want the undergrowth protection not crash protection lol

I guess it's a case of doing some price research on a few options then going to Evans, trying some and getting them to price match.

There are so many different options. I was thinking of knee and shin pads, especially as I am about to receive some V12 pedals that could quite easily rip my shins to shreds.

I just don't want to buy any that make the uphill and flat sections too incomfortable.

Mike, I just showed the x-ray to my wife who is an orthopaedic scrub nurse and she asked if you have had it plated. Apparently if not you should insist that it is.
