    June Ride

The more observant among you will have noticed that the title of the thread has changed again.

Just in case you missed the details a few pages ago and haven't seen the Facebook event, our next outing is in the Shropshire hills and consists of 3 loops centred on the town (village?) of Church Stretton and is led by our new friend PuddleRider (Mike).

    Our meeting place is here:

    http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&sourc ... 9&t=h&z=18

in the co-op car park at the junction of Lion Meadow and Easthope Road. There is a fee for all day parking, I think Mike said it was about £4. Usual time, meet at 9.30 for a 10am start

A Polite Notice: Can those members of the group who are less unfit than the others please note that this is (as far as I know) an all-natural trail and therefore will not be signposted, so feel free to go off the front but we will be sticking to the original theme of the rides and no-one gets left behind, so please wait for the others to catch up. Thanks guys.

I think we took the view that it was the last route of the day, well signposted and if we didn't press on we woudn't complete it. In fairness to the front runners, their pace was much faster than mine but they still waited for me at pretty regular frequency (thanks guys) and I think their pace urged me on to go a bit quicker and try more things than I would otherwise have done.

At risk of getting flak, I think we stopped for too long on too many occasions in the morning. I'm all for frequent stops to get breath back, regroup, mechanical problems etc but still like to make steady progress.

there mainly of the morning rides, as the rides on the FTD and Monkey i've yet to sort out so enjoy.

Oh and Roo look out on the Part 2 vid near the beginning :D

Great vids Mick, your posh camera comes pretty close to some branches when it's helmet mounted!!!!!

    Cheshley

i've had the cam on the helmet down at Sherwood Pines and cought a few branches but it's pretty tough and not even the mount had moved but do try and keep low going under branches etc when got it on the helmet. but most of the time try an have it on the bike somewhere.

    Hi Guys,
As Cheshley says the Long Mynd is all natural trails and not a sign post in site, however it would be pretty hard to get lost so long as we make sure we re group at the start and finish of each section. We may get strung out on the hills but again once on the trail there aren't too many options for missing a turning, and i've not lost any one over there yet!
We will keep with the ethos of the group and will have regulair re groups and recovery periods for the slower riders, just means the quicker riders get longer to rest

As for this weekend I may very well go over the Chase on Friday afternoon / evening and then my local secret woods on Sunday, Saturday is DIY and Gardening day :(

Wouldn't be secret if I told every one

Mind you only worth it to a local as the most riding you can get out of it is about 90 minutes and not worth travelling for.

Have to say that i rode the Mynd a few months back and wasnt that impressed , Thought the desent from minton batch was ok , but nothing special , i preferred the desent down carding mill back to the car !
I didnt think the desents were worth the ammount of climbing
I`ll try and get to this as there`s nothing like a locals knowledge , and hopefully will be more impressed next time :D

    Cheers Tony

Personally mate, I wouldn't bother driving that far. The 'Red' route is only about 9 miles and is decidedly NOT red. Even I think it's easy and you know what a wuss I am!!!!!

    Maloo,
Are you the super hero on the singlespeed 8)

The first climb is very much a push for 50% of it after that there is a long gradual fire road climb and a couple of short road climbs with the odd short single track climbs.

Bring what suits you best, if you get it wrong we will wait for you!

Might be able to join you on this one - will know nearer the time.

Puddlerider - do you know where the downhill is in the woods below the gliding club? Always fancied an exploration in there but don't know my way round.

    Muddypuddle,
When you come up on the fire road from Priors Holt there is some evidence of few bits of downhill being carved into the landscape but it only looks like a few runs. These woods are quite large so it is perfectly feasable that there is some hidden stuff in there some where.
Your not thinking about the downhill area nearer to Ludlow are you?

Thanks puddle rider. I know Bringewood so it's definately not that one. There are some downhill runs somewhere in the woods, I just thought you might know where they were exactly. Not that I'm up to doing them but I'm game for a laugh and like a bit of techy stuff!
