After yesterdays ride, i want to replace the saddle, pedals, front tyre, front brake and remove the big chainring, as these are the things that caused crashes or pain. Doing a length jump, my foot came off the pedal in the air, then met the big chainring when i landed. It hurt. My front tyre washed out once or twice, even though it was a low enough pressures, and it's getting quite worn anway. My front brake (juicy 3) was rubbing like shit, wheel would only do 1/3 of a rotation when i spun it in the air, when the rear would do about 5. My saddle was quite uncomfortable too, but i'm going to try some padded shorts first.
Apart from that, the ride was great, the trails had dried out, and we had good fun.

you spending too much on upgrades tbh, so what you should do is keep upgrading and then when you have enough get a AM frame, becasue if your going to keep upgrading like this you will be able to buy a full bike in 10 years.

thats what i would do

rather than buy a brake why not juust get your current brakes set up right??? take the bike to the lbs and get it sorted.

Juicy 3's are no different to align than any other disc brakes. Just loosen off the bolts holding the caliper to the mounts, pump the lever a few times then hold it down and re-tighten bolts. Done.

I have done what a.palmer says lots of times, and it just doesn't work. i think they need a bleed. how much would that cost per brake?
And jay 12, the only other upgrades i am going to make are pedals, saddle and bash, over the next 6 months, as i am starting to save for another bike. I'll replace the tyres when they wear out, and the same with other stuff - replace when they break or wear out

Are you sure your rotor isn't warped?

It's a constant rubbing, rather than once every rotation like you get with a warped disc. So how much would a bleed be at an average lbs?

After taking the rear wheel off, the back brake is rubbing too now :( If I got the lbs to bleed them, would they adjust/align them too?

I'm not going to spend any more on this bike, except paying to sort out my brakes. I'm going to go double and no bash, cos i don't really need a bash, so it would be £30+ down the drain.
For my next bike, I'm thinking of getting the 08 enduro frame (comes with forks, front hub, stem, eseatpost, rear shock, front dreailueur) at evans, and building it up with lyric 2 step's when they fix them, or talas 36's, Easton havoc AM wheels (£350 for the pair, prebuilt at Merlin) avid elixir r's, slx double and bash chainset, slx front mech, x9 shifters and rear mech, maxxis minion dh, 2.5 60a rear/2.5 supertacky 42a front- better start saving! :D

if you arent gonna use the spesh forks and hub, why not just look at ebay???? other wise its just a waste of money. plus by the time you have enough to buy it, the 08 enduro will be a vintage classic :P

And jay 12, the only other upgrades i am going to make are pedals

I thought you 'upgraded' them when you got the bike?
  • JamesBrckmn
    JamesBrckmn Posts: 1,360
yeh well i shouldn't have got them. they were cheap and crappy £10 wellgo's (not that all wellgo's are crap). you know what they say, buy cheap buy twice
i'm not upgrading them now anyway.

Lawman, i probably won't get that one, probably an old stock or newish used 09 or 10 frame

And how much would a brake bleed be, and would that include alignment?

dont take offence to this, but i think all these "im gonna build this in x amount of years for x amount" threads are getting abit stupid. this is a section for your own current rides, not dream bikes, which tbh if you only have a paper round, that is a dream im afraid.

i could have built this is 3 years, so stop saying- 'hahaha your young you will never never get a good bike' just cos i have a hope of getting a good bike one day.

but yeh this is a current section, so i'll stop talking about my plans for an enduro, but that doesn't mean i won't get one.

when the lbs bleed your brakes, do they align and set them up? or do you have to pay extra for that?

not saying you wont, but it will take serious time and serious money to get a build that good.

You'll discover girls in those 3 years.

That Enduro's not going to happen. Trust me.

I discovered girls and still got the bike(s) I wanted. Or does it only interfere if you actually get a girl?

    No. No you do not.

I think its actually more to do with the fact that Enduro owners and girls don't go together very well if you get me...

    That could well be true.

I used to have an Enduro, couldn't even get my mum to hug me.

It's a shame, because midlife crisis sufferes have ruined the image of enduros, but it's usually stumpjumpers they seem to go for luckily
