As some of you may have spotted, Halfords have come up with a few old Boardman models over the past year. While browsing this morning, I came across the ~7.5Kg 2014 TK Pro in various sizes, 48/15 gearing and it comes with rim brakes so it could also be legally be used on the road... £500 before using your BC discount card. There's also 57.5cm Team Carbon 2014, can't find geo charts but presumably that's the seat tube so it's for giants, going for £800.

Even as someone who vowed to never ride rim brake bikes again after my RTA just over seven years ago, that track bike deal is tempting in this current world of Covid bike price madness.

    Have you got the link?

Looks like unsurpsrisingly, they've gone in the last five days since posting.

Is it just me that has noticed lower Specialized road bike model prices become more competitive over the last ~11 months?

https://www.tredz.co.uk/.Specialized-Allez-E5-Elite-2021-Road-Bike_220163.htm grey and satin variant ~£1049... green and the black/blue variants are £1249

4% cashback at Topcashback too, almost making this mostly 105 (but dodgy Praxis chainset?) rim brake bike a rare sub £1k in these crazy times.

@daniel_b Didn't you get one of these a year or so ago?

Nothing wrong with Praxis, Specialized started using Praxis parts to solve an issue the earlier Carbon bikes had with the BB creaking (mine was affected by this).

Autosmart G101 for me. Works well at a high dilution, still on my first 5l bottle I bought about 10 years ago.

Yup - a few much more efficient and far better priced options but unfortunately not as trendy as some so clubbies tend to srick with the marketing.

I never measure exactly but for soaking a greasy chain in a jar overnight I probably do it somewhere around 10:1 water to G101. Then I have a spray bottle mixed up weaker that I use sparingly and carefully aimed for cassette etc, being careful not to get near bearings.

Can be used as a household cleaner too at about 30:1 I think. Its uses are pretty endless.

all spotless for pennies and takes about 5 mins to get ypur whole bike spotless.

5l can lasts a year or so.

You must do an awful lot of riding or an awful lot of cleaning or both if you're using 5L of degreaser a year.

Lots of different bikes, also use it on the works bikes and friends and kiddies bikes, clean chain and cassette and chainrings once a week on whichever bike I'm using which is part of the reason they last years

Also a shame to run DA or Red all clogged up wi'shyte. Other lesser groupsets, not so much.

Bear in mind I also don't do any of this dilution lark. Just slop it on.

I don't really use it on the summer bike as that has a waxed chain, so nothing to degrease. Frame and components just need a bit of a brush/wipe down with a bit of water every now and then.

Winter bike with wet lube I take the chain off each week after the commute and leave overnight in a diluted jar of G101. Quick swill around in the morning and rinse through with water. Drivetrain quick scrub with a toothbrush and diluted G101 and rinse with water. Very quick and very easy.

Never used muc-off personally, but have never felt the need to when I have something that works, is versatile, and costs a fraction.

I don't do anything that complex tbh. Too much faff.

On a dry ride i don't do anything.

    If it's wet:

    Spray bike with garden hose.

Wipe all over with wet wipes (mainly braking surfaces and drivetrain).

Smash with hammers, set on fire and throw into neighbours garden.

    Job done.

It says a lot about the state of the bike market in 2021 but this Dolan Tuono with Chrous 12 speed and Zonda's for £2,649 looks like a good deal to me compared to the competition. It's even in stock if you're on the small side:

    https://www.dolan-bikes.com/dolan-tuono-disc-carbon-road-bike-campag-chorus-12x2-hdr/

Spend a few extra quid on a tyre upgrade and you have a very nice bike there.

I've not been able to get over to an Aldi to look at the £10 helmet yet, given my Giro Savant is nearly four years old.

For a bargain that you seemingly cannot buy this morning but is showing on thie Halfords website, which might be a good thing because I was unaware of it until yesterday and I was seriously considering buying myself, the Boardman ADV 8.9 now has an orange/red model (which I prefer to the black/white/grey)... My biggest spec niggle is the seatpost is oldskool 31.6.

But a general "bargain" for today is £2 bonus cashback off a £10 spend until midnight tonight that you have to activate at Topcashback.

I've been meaning to buy a 32mm GP5000 in preparation for the "outdoor season" but when I finally got around to wanting to order at least one for the rear wheel yesterday, all the usual suspects were out of stock.

Even though I don't like using them for bike bits, Amazon Prime to the rescue, I have a 32mm out for delivery today for £31.21! :o
