Any thoughts on tyre levers? My plastic ones broke and warped trying to use them this morning. Recomendations for good ones at a reasonable price please

Pedros tyre levers are my default now - around £5 for a pair, but always seem to do the job, and not make me think they are about to snap.

Oh and they come in yellow too coincidentally.

Decathlon ones are actually very good. Stiff for the trickiest tyres and don't wear out. Mine are 4 years old and working perfectly after much use.

    Also currently 1.99 for 3.

For those tyre/rim combinations that won't go back on easily by hand, or if I want to get a tyre on as quickly as possible (dark/rain/cold), I use a kool stop tyre mate (approx £10), which I attach to my mini pump with an elastic band and keep in a jersey pocket.

Or for the macgyver/cheapskate method... Put a tiny squirt of washing up liquid in a bit of cling film in the saddle bag (takes up no space and weighs 2g). Then if you need to get a tough tyre on make up some soapy water in your bidon, get it all over the bead and it will slip on easy.

A bit ott for road rides but a good tip for bike-packing.

No saving if you literally get just one chain, after the ~£4 p&p, pretty sure my one from Merlin was ~£17 with free postage. Worth grabbing for the spares box though, if there are other bits that catch your eye, especially if you reach the free postage threshold of £100+.

Rode a hilly 65 in the latest 1.something chpt3 shorts, and all good.
Great fit, pad as you would imagine, really pleased with them.

Personally I would say not - despite Castelli making them, I think there are sufficient differences.

The only reason I went for these over the Castelli alternative, is that there was no Castelli short with the progetto X2 pad for £75 or £60 (For the version before) available anywhere on t'internet.
As it happens, it was a lucky stumble, and I don't have a red scorpion anywhere either, which of course clashes with the rest of my kit

You could also argue that Castelli and Sportful kit should all be the same, but I think a majority of people would agree there are differences.

I agree they are different enough to be a unique brand, FWIW I wore mine today and as i suspected the second model is a true Castelli large in size 34, I would also say that the thick seam on the inside of the leg band might not be to everyone's taste, also the straps are very thin and noticeable whilst riding but not overly uncomfortable and finally the blue/gray colour is very nice but be aware once you get sweaty in the groin its very obvious and if you're out long enough that it dries leaves a rather fetching stain, this again is not unique to the brand as the same is true for any other brands light coloured bibs.

In my mind still a bargain and one i'd buy again.

RE: Sportful the parent company of Castelli, i'd say all of their stuff is low to mid range in quality and fit whereas the UK versions of Castelli are mid to high, I bought some Castelli bibs many years ago directly from Italy and whilst good they had a very Sportful feel about them, also not available in the UK.

I ordered an x-small and small just yesterday to try, pretty sure BTR has waxed lyrical about them previously.

It was the only item (in chartreuse) that jumped out at me.

  • ok so chp3t castelli tops in a small are all a great fit. I only have DHB bibs at the moment in a small and waist wise they are fine but I would prefer the straps to be longer as they are on the tight side. Size thoughts ? small, medium or skip and if skip who has long straps on a small?

They are meant to be tight though.

I have the opposite problem to you, in that some maufacturers bibs have straps which are too long for me.
This may be of use to you however!

Pactimo, and Chapeau both made shorts that fitted me leg wise, but the straps were hopelessly long for me.

Tight when trying on or tight on the bike ?

How's the fit? I'm normally a small in the Pro Team stuff, think I might need to go up to a Medium though to fit a baselayer and jersey underneath.

Huge fan of Supacaz bar tape - Sigma have some of the styles, in some colours for £20.
Seems a lot, but the quality (for me anyway) is worth that much or more :-)

    https://www.sigmasports.com/search?query=supacaz+tape

Worth noting that free delivery is only on orders over £30 now, pretty sure it used to be a lot less than that, or maybe even free on all orders.
They still have free returns though.

Sigma are top drawer imho, have ordered many items from them, including wheels.

it does nae look like the 20% code can be used against sale clobber.
At least I added some Blaze kit in, and it said it could not be applied.

Irrespective of the above, this base layer is a little GEM (£50 down to £25), only in xs and xl though:

Superior to the Rapha equivalent imho - does easily snag though, but then they all do.

I had the Chpt3 e-mail about their 1.11 (or whatever numbers they use) bib shorts and jerseys, with a 24 hour advance access to the half price shorts and jerseys.
Popped a pair of 30's in the basket, had a conference call, and now all sizes in both colours are out of stock bar the 29's!
I suspect they won't have many buyers for those!

Wonder if they will have any more stock made available, otherwise the 'sale' tomorrow will be a nonsense.

Was partially tempted by one of the jerseys, but there was even less stock of those in small sizes, though a fair few of the larger sizes were remaining when I looked.
