I now have the 820. I had the 800 for about 6 years and ******* hated it. Constantly losing rides or parts of rides.

I guess i should have ditched Garmin completely, but stuck with what I knew. tbh, it's been faultless since i got it. Yeah the touch screen is a little shoite, but in general use I mainly use the physical buttons anyway.

See, I dont get this. I believe it, and have heard others say similar, but I think only twice in more years than that has mine frozen, needing a reset to continue. And its been used twice a day every day for commuting and lots of other rides too. I must have done something like 2000 rides with mine. My son hasnt used his as much but its never once skipped a beat that I know of. I dont know why some people are unlucky. I still havent seen another GPS I would rather have, and have decided to pass on the 820 despite the low price currently - I just dont need anything it has over the 800 and some things are a step backwards.
I think individual units were a bit hit or miss. Lots of friends have them and have not had these issues. I only really upgraded as the price was right (come on down).

I bought my Garmin 800 back in 2014 and I've it gets used twice a day, most days, in all weathers and it's never skipped a beat. Other than wireless connectivity, can't really think of any features it is lacking so no plans to "upgrade" any time soon!

Just seen a Garmin Edge 820 on Ebay buy it now £20. Tempted at that price but very wary as it seems far too good to be true

What's the catch with this sort of thing? Ebay protection for buyers is really strong isn't it? Presumably Ebay/Paypal refund even if the seller flees to a beach in a non-extradition country to live his life out in luxury on the £20? Just lots of grief and time spent raising disputes?

i bought the 820 when it was 175 but with the BC discount came in the same at 157, what i've discovered is sync activities is still sh!t, battery life is the worst of any Garmin i've owned and i've owned a lot (still have my original 705) screen is tiny and built in maps a crap, i've not tried a routed ride yet but will report back once i have.

Also why doesnt it auto upload on bluetooth after saving a ride?!?

No problems on that score with mine, there are nights when I get home from work and stop the Garmin and save the ride before opening the front door and wheel my bike in and before I've turned off the lights the ride has been uploaded via the handset and my Wifi network. Not tried to upload straight from 820 via Wifi.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Mine does, so not sure? Same as Redvee mine upload between saving the ride and getting in the door.

My Edge 25 is very intermittent as to whether it auto uploads. More often than not, I have to trigger it manually.

It is a scam, I wouldn't buy it.

Mine sometimes does, but it's more to do with my phone. Always uploads when I get home via wifi if I plug it in to charge anyway.

Battery life is fine for me too.

I have learned to check that my 520 is connected to my phone before a ride. Connection appears to be hit and miss (open the Garmin Express app to resolve). Once connected it always uploads on save.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

my 510 often refuses to sync over bluetooth,I have to turn it off and on again and then Garmin connect magically finds it, its lost parts of rides, loses satellite signal if theres too much clutter on the handlebars, and noticed the battery this year is really beginning to drop charge quickly, Im always amazed as a bit of straightforward tech that there arent more brands competing. and yet what would get as a replacement, another Garmin

You buy a Wahoo, and realise that yes, there is a better way.

I had a issue like this with my Garmin Forerunner 35. However, when i changed phones from a Huawei to a Sony, the problem went away. So the moral of this story is, it might not be your garmin that is the problem.

I had this problem for years, and then out of the blue it started working again every time (same phone, didn't reset the Garmin). Was certainly something weird going on.
