Altura airstream jerseys at Merlin, £16.. plenty of sizes and 3 colour options..as a big lump i vouch for Altura for folk who can't squeeze into "snugger" race fit cycling gear.

Balls, no, meant to get 2 workstands, one spare and one to leave at work.
Panniers looked ok for the price last time, but i do get fed up with the waterproof covers.

Are those much good? Although aimed at autumn/spring, no mention of windproofness, which I'd generally perceive to be needed...

Not sure about your area but my local Aldi had work stands piled high.

cheers. Local lidl had run out, but it's a small one. will go visit on of the larger stores later this evening.

  • Popped into Lidl after work earlier to look at some of the bike gear...

The m/l helmet shell fits my large oval head brilliantly, much better than the Met Rivale I sent back to Wiggle last week (and got the refund for a few moments ago, very relieved, I stupidly removed the label from the straps while unsure if it fitted properly or not).
However, the Lidl helmet has very odd placement for the rearmost set of side straps, they make their way to the side via the cradle adjustment knob at the very rear of the helmet... Felt really strange compared to my other helmets for some time, which all had the rearmost strap drop down from the helmet side!
If they had had a fluro yellow in stock at the store I visited, I might have been tempted to try for £10, because the shell fitted my oval head really well (quite possibly even better than my 3 year old Bell Alchera). But the only hi-vis ones left there were the small... Might pop to another branch up the road to see if they have the larger fluro.

The pannier sets were very different to what I expected from the website, as in most of the different colours had different capacities and designs, but looking again now online they do clearly show them (I was feeling jetlagged all weekend, I never cope well with time change to BST). https://www.lidl.co.uk/en/Non-Food-Offe ... 1793&ar=12
The green and white set are semi-open topped, you roll over the top bit and use the straps to hold it in place, the grey set have a more conventional lid/strap and the red set had a zipper top.
I took a chance on a set of the reds, even though they only hold ~14 litres, simply because the handle and general design looked the most robust. Now I just need to order a rack!

The rucksacks looked ok, not a massive capacity, but ~18l should cover my needs. A little concerned about how they will last, but my existing ~10+ year old rucksack is starting to fall apart.

Didn't look at the workstands, there were stacks on them, decided if I'm going to get one I will sign up to British Cycling and get a basic Park Tools one, as part of a £100+ order to get the 10% discount.

In the absence of the Crivit one above, does anyone have any suggestions for cycling rucksacks? I'm planning to start using my Mercian, which having an aero seatpost and no bag loops can't take my Carradice saddlebag.

My only requirement is that any bag I uses has to be lightweight, and allow my back to breath. I won't be using it in the dark or wet, so no need for reflectives or for it to be especially waterproof. Doesn't need to be that big, as I'll be bringing my full kit in on a Monday on my Carradice equipped bike. Just needs to be able to carry a shirt, pump, and a few tools.

Looks like just the sort of thing I'm after - thanks. Definitely one to put on the shortlist (though as you say, quite pricey!)

I have one of these and the extra cost is probably worth it as Deuter packs last a long time. I've bought cheaper rucksacks in the past and they tended to fall apart after a year or 2. Not the case with the Deuter ones. My first one lasted for over 5 years (probably longer) and my current one isn't not showing any real signs of wear (apart from dirt). Averaged over time they work out cheaper. ;)

If you want cheaper, the DHB slice ones have been good in the past. Same website, they do a 15l and 30l version.

Cant argue with Deuter for quality though.

Berghaus 24/7 25 litre daysack. Twice the size as the one above, half the price.

Had mine for over 5 years (could be closer to 10) now and apart from grime off commuting it shows no signs of ageing.

The thing I like about the Deuter one is that it's got a frame that keeps the bag off your back. I already have a 'normal' daysack style rucksack and it's fine for walking, but every time I use it on the bike in the summer, I end up dripping with sweat. I tend to run 'hot', so it's the airflow system that's really selling the Deuter one to me. I can't seem to find any other rucksacks of this size with this feature.

I can confirm that Deuter and Osprey rucksacks are very durable, most models will have ribs and mesh that allow your back to breathe. If you want outright sealed and indestructible, Alpkit Gourdon is a classic.

I think the back mesh is really good at keep you cool, but only if you're wearing something breathable. As soon as you put on something where the back can't breathe then it's almost worse as so much of it touches your back. The cheaper Deuter one just has a few large pads to keep most of it off your back, and that might be better if wearing more layers. In summer though I love the one I linked above.
But it's important to consider what you want to put in it as the system that keeps it off your back makes the packing space less useful for bigger things. There's a whole thread on here somewhere about that bag if you want to read up on the details.

We've been talking lately about the rare 10 speed "new shape" Campagnolo Centaur Ultrashift shifters that were only available in 2009-10. There's a couple of NOS Veloce left hand shifters available on Ebay for £49.99 or best offer (there were 5, I had one!); much the same as the Centaur (no spec difference in the 2009 catalogue) and if you swap the levers over, nobody will know!

Seriously, it's a cheap and rare chance to get a brand new spare. Servicing one of these without repairs costs about £30 plus you get £8 worth of new hood thrown in with this deal. You can pay most of £50 just to get the shifter body alone which still leaves you with the hood and lever to source.

nice spot I didnt even know they did a Veloce version of UT, i'm set now on going full Chorus or Rotor hydraulic on the R5 and trickle down the UT i have left, i've managed the rear mech and shifters in multiple crashes now so that's one set in "functional" state the other as new, literally as it doesnt get ridden.

I think that that was why they brought in PT - ridiculous that the only meaningful difference between Veloce and Super Record was an extra cog!

Osprey ruck sack for me, 30ltr, I carry quite a bit. Not. That bothered about sweaty back , even though it has an airflow system you'll still sweat if you're putting effort in. I took to these forums and asked, ordered the DHB slice , osprey and Deuter from wiggle, kept the osprey for my needs.

Rode in this morning with my trusty Berghaus Cubic 25 backpack that I've had for years. Even with just a shirt in there, it stuck to my back in a miserable fashion.
