Got the Lidl one - it's ok - the protective plastic on the jaws can slip off and the jaws can rotate around - rather annoying if you've not got the bike in balance - but as a cheap stand to do basic maint tasks on then it's fine.
  • Thanks for the feedback on stands, gives me food for thought.

Can anyone offer experience of how either the Kask Rapido or Giro Savant fit an oval head? About to return the Met Rivale. :(

Thanks for the heads up Daniel B, I've now ordered these hideously bright items for the commute. I'd not worn arms warmers before last autumn and I'm now a bit of a convert, looking to try my first leg warmers with these too.

Cannot see the design of the Lidl one - but my cheap stand from fleabay was impossible to tighten bolts enough to stop the jaws rotating; bit of carbon fixing paste was enough to stop the tube holding the jaws from rotating in its collar

I have a Kask Rapido. Not sure I have an oval head though. How do you check? Anyway, it is a pretty good fit. The retention system on Kasks is a bit more developed then most helmets so probably accommodates more shapes. Preferred it to the Giro Foray, even though the last helemet I bought was a Giro Air Attack which fits really well.

the one I have isn't too bad - but the plastic surface against a (?) plastic coated metal tube doesn't offer much in the way of friction so it does slip when I off-center too much weight.
I could "fix" it - either permanently with a bolt through the whole lot - or do a complete strip job on the arm and clean off the rubbish surface ...

Not convinced this is a bargain, but how have they come by a 7 year old bike?

40% off doesn't seem enough to me, I'd be looking for 60% at least.

7.9kg with old, old 105 and Aksiums is pretty good going. Could get down close to 7 without it costing the earth.

good bike with terrible wheels & tyres, I have two sets of that groupset, pretty good very smooth and almost nothing in it compared with the 7800 dura ace

Slane cycles is a tiny, funny little shop. Having been in it, I'm not remotely surprised. Usually some great stuff in it to look at, too.

You're probably describing most LBS, hate to think what you make of Dave Kane Cycles. Can't fault Slane Cycles customer service.

Takes me back to '92 and buying my first good bike by accident.
The LBS couldn't supply me with the bike I had ordered so offered me an old stock bike instead. Full 531c frame, Cinelli and 105. Bargain that changed my outlook to cycling. The 19mm tyres were a bit iffy though!
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Given that 2011 R3s were going for £1099 back in 2012 yeah, it's not that much of a bargain. Still great bike/frame.

but the 2011 R3 isnt that much of a stella frameset, If rumors are true when Cervelo was sold the remaining R5's we're repainted and sold as R3's now that's a bargain

If Cervelo repainted Cervelo R5s and sold them as Scott Addict R3s then yes, a bargain! 8)

Yep friend of mine got an R5 repainted as an r3 from jedi a few years back... with Sram force it cost 2800. He crashed it and cervelo wanted more to replace the frame!

I love Slane, and Kane's is the best shop in town. I've bought three bikes there, and never found the team, especially Dave himself, anything less than first class.
