Has anyone asked them how they got 200 frames at presumably less than £300 each? I want one but the too god to be true flag is waving?

Nope, but they are a reputable shop. My brother has dealt with them without any problems in the past.

Don't get one though, I don't want them to run out before I decide whether I'm brave enough to bite the bullet (it's just whether they are truly Campag compatible that I need to look into).

    Does this help?

    http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40044&t=12879561&p=17881127&hilit=campagnolo+%26+cr1#p17881127

    It does, thanks!

I don't know why I'm dithering. It seems to tick all the boxes - quick, but not filling-looseningly uncomfortable, understatedly pretty and I can build it to my exact tastes. I can also afford to go up a groupset, as like I say, I really wasn't that blown away by Athena. The Wilier GTs I'm meant to go try tomorrow are just a little bit too bling for my tastes too, and I guess the CR1 is aimed at the same market: halfway between a pure racer and a 'sportive friendly' ride. And let's not forget the price...

Someone just tell me to pull the trigger, please!

So if my supersix 54 felt too big and I had 10cm of seatpost showing. My leg inseam is 31'' and height is 5ft 9 then I should get the 54 (medium) in CR1. Just need to clarify this before making any more mistakes. I think I have a longer torso and arm lengths are normal (if there are such things.) thanks for any advice BTW this is doing my nut in.

I'm 5'8 with 29.5" inside leg and ride a 54cm CR1. I certainly don't feel too stretched out and wouldn't go for anything smaller. I've had the bike for a year and would highly recommend.

    Cheers
    Rory

Thanks thats great and reassuring, just ordered a medium and cancelled the small. Thanks a lot everyone for helping me out - I did feel I had made the wrong choice. I think I may be running too long cranks. I might have to move from 172.5 to 170. What do others run with 31" inseam. Might be the wrong place for this though.

BTW: Lovely bike Asprilla. I bet that turns heads.

Don't have any concerns ref Westbrook Cycles, I only live about 5 miles away from them and its a great shop run by good people.
I'm collecting mine in person next week when I return from working away.

Would it be wrong to get one and put the old hybrid kit I have on it?

You can't be in our team if you use hybrid kit on a CR1 SL frame! That's just sacrilege! It would be like squirting ketchup all over Beluga caviar...

You are a bad man posting that - I think I'm about to buy one too now. All your fault, I was swithering - that looks very lovely. Suits the wheels to a 'T'

Re sizing : there is not always a 'perfect' sized frame in any particular model since one dimention may be identical to another frame others vary, eg same top tube but one has a slope and one does not, the headtube length is different, the seattube angle is different. Also you can tune with different seatpost, different stem(angle, length), bars etc
    For me, 5'10"-11", 33''ish inseam, I'll be going for a 54 as :
The TT length is close to my current bike, I used to look for something nearer to 55.5 or so but I don't think that has helped by back pains and pics I've seen of me racing suggest I am overstretched.
The 56 has a (too) long head tube, adds about 2cms I think.
Current bike is a CX bike with 54cm TT and about 100mm stem and I feel adding 1 - 2 cms to the stem would be lovely and add a nice additional stretch but as a commute size it's pretty good.

So, if you are between sizes and you think your own dimensions can cope with the frame-dimensions of the major tubes (seat and top tubes) then consider things like how much front-end height you need. You might end up with smaller frame (longer stem / set-back post / steerer spacers / angled up stem) or bigger frame (in-line post / shorter stem)
    Just my 2'p worth.

Oh god... I'm having doubts over the frame size now... I ordered a 61cm, I'm about 6ft 2/3ish as Westbrook 1st recommended but looking on the net and at Scott sizing charts I think I should change it to a 58cm... Phoned Westbrook and they said that I should try out a Scott at a dealer and let them know if I want to change... Might have to head down to Evans or something at lunchtime...

HH, I'm 6' 2" and was unsure of whether to get the 56 or 58. I would not go for the 61! After some serious dithering, I'm going to go for the 58 with no spacers (or perhaps 5mms worth depending on the bars).105 is my plan, Mavic wheels, Deda finishing kit. Budget £1400

I'm hoping the frame box will fit under the spare double bed as my plan is to hide it with a kingsize duvet over the top...

Glad to hear it comes with a BB, thanks Meanredspider.
OK I've changed to 58cm... I think 56cm would probably be too small, although my legs aren't that long I've got quite a long torso so would like a little extra length. I was hoping to go with Ultegra if I can find a good deal... I've had Tiagra on 2 bikes and got 105 on my Focus Cayo but never had a bike with Ultegra or Dura Ace.... Not sure about the wheels, will have to have a think... Perhaps something from the Fulcrum family? Or another pair of RS80s.... Good like hiding it under the duvet!

    Thank you Sir!

Just done that only using topcashback (5.5% :) )

Right you complete and utter b*stards, I've done it! If I'm anything less than delighted I'll know who to blame (the thirty odd commuters riding around on 2012 Scott CR1s).

I went for the 54, which I'm certain will be spot on for me. It's obviously shorter than my Equilibrium 56, but I do feel a touch over-stretched on that and I like the long stem look anyway.

Got an email back from Westbrook about fitting Campag and not only did they say it was a piece of cake to swap out the Shimano press fit BB for a a Campag one, but they're chucking one in the box for me for free! How about that for service!

As for the SCR Scott team: Orica Brownedge?

Will be fun seeing what you lot come up with (apart from Sketchley - step away from the hybrid, Sketchley!)

Now for another bargain - Giro mitts on Sportpursuit! Not even going to pimp my code on this. Big fan of Giro mitts and they really are a great deal at that price.

Oh no, ordered the 56, which seems to be close to my current bike a genesis equilibrium in a 56 but about 2cm more headtube.

Does anyone know what the largest tire size I can fit on them is?

Damn and I was going to get a croix de fer

Sorry to muddy the waters here, but I seem to remember remarking before that you and I seem to be very similar in proportions, 6' 2-3", long in the torso and relatively short in the legs. My 'ideal' top tube length would 585mm, directly between the 58 and 61. So, either would probably be fine, depending whether you want a shorter or longer stem.

    £1300 or thereabouts

you might be able to do it for £1100 or so with Flubit.

I don't understand... What's this? How do you get the whole thing for £1300 (or £1100)

It is like a quick spec in case anyone wanted to know how much a full build will cost:

    Scott CR1 SL - £499 from Westbrook
    Shimano 105 - £399 from Merlin
Eddy Merckx AMX5 Carbon Finishing Kit - £120 from Planet X
Eddy Merckx Carbon seatpost - £35 from Planet X
    PEdals - £45?
    Wheels - £200?

Total £1300 - if you do deals through Flubit though I bet you will be able to get it cheaper.
    Oh I see.... thanks

Oh god... I think I'll stick with the 58cm... I quite like to have the smallest frame possible with lots of seatpost showing. Wouldn't want the stem to be too long as that affects handling but I'm not going to be using it for commuting so won't be weaving through traffic, more going fast over straight roads in Kent

Thankyou very much Andy, that's a really helpful reply - I think that has decided me on the 54, as I can adjust it to some degree with seatpost and stem length.

Anyone tried using flubit for the Westbrook Scotts ? Wonder if there is an extra saving to be made (more than via Quidco ?) and also how long it might take to get their price through - if it's too slow they'll all be gone at this rate ?!
Already missed out on the Addict SL which I was going to spring for since I like to pretend I'm a real pro and can't ride any of these softy sportif-type frames but the CR1 SL is a bit more hard-core as it's the HMX version plus it's 3 years newer than the Addicts on offer.

I don't think the CR1 is as sportivey as most sportive frames... It's somewhere between sportive and race frame. In fact 1 of the reviews I read reckoned that for racing on rough, unmaintained UK roads the CR1 may be a better choice as you'd get fractionally better traction on potholed corners..
