I am so not needing one of these but so want to buy one.
Could possibly reduce the pain (financial) by telling myself that I could strip a few of the bits of my TT bike which hasn't been used for 18+ months now and then flogging the frame with bars etc.
    Should I .......... ?

Buy it first and then give yourself a bit of time to contemplate selling the TT frame. See what happens.

TBH in three months these will probably got for more than £500 on eBay.

Holy flub. I'm half tempted, even though it will also cost me a testicle. Maybe two.

Now that you've spawned twice (OT:how is disco chook doing?), Shirley you've no continuing need for such? Worthwhile exchange rate, methinks...

They are handy for saddle balance.

I did actually get my wallet out but then I realised I'd be swapping a CR1 weighing 7.0kg for one weighing 6.9kg for £500 and I'd still have to find the time to put it together.

Besides I've got other plans for that money involving my Civia frame becoming a winter single speed instead of the 20kg energy vacuum it is now.

@Asprilla, how do you find the CR1? Any probs with the BB - I see the 2012 model requires a BB91 press-fit jobbie.

    It's a tempting offer....

Mine is has a BB86 push fit BB and I've got to use the Sram GXP BB. I started out with a ceramic one and it fell to bits after three months; the races rusted. I've now got the standard one and it's been in for two years with no problems. That must be a record for a Sram BB; must have it looked at soon, just to make sure. Not had any other BB issues apart from that.

The frame itself is great. It's not a Madone / Roubaix magic carpet ride; it's comfortable, but you know when you are riding over poor surfaces. I don't mind that, I test rode the others and still picked the CR1.

The SL should be lighter and even stiffer than my standard frame.

Got a Shimano BB86 in my Addict R3, not a massive fan as they either require expensive specialist tools to install/remove if you want to save the bearings. Alternative method of install/removing with a screwdriver/drift is rather agricultural, destroys the bearings and not what I'd like to do with a carbon frame. Mine's done about five or six thousand miles but is clicking a bit and had I had a normal BB I'd have removed it, regreased/cleaned and possibly replaced but as it is I've not got round to getting it to the LBS to check it.

    Fulcrum racing 3 wheelset - £315!!!

Between £45-£85 saving on all the default online cheap retailers, from a local store.

Spotted them on Monday with the wife in tow, swung by today to buy and safely stowed in the garage before she gets home.

I've taken the plunge too... Now I've got to shop for the bits to stick on it and get my dad to build it (I might watch but I'm clueless when it comes to assembling things, perhaps I should try to learn this time)! Hopefully this BB91 thing won't be too much of a challenge... So what group, wheels, bars etc shall I get? Any decent bargains out there?

I think it comes with bottom bracket so you should be good to go with a standard Shimano groupset :) Give me a shout if you spot any bargains as I'm in the same boat as you, need everything except for wheels and a saddle!

I'm another plunger. It comes with the BB91 (Westbrook confirmed). I think I now have everything I need short of bar tape.

New CR1 SL owners - what size frame did you go for? I'm still dithering - the 56 or 58. As you can see, I'm trying to talk myself out of a 6th bike and am doing a poor/good job of it.

I went for a small too 5ft 9 as was between 52 and 54 and found my 54 cannondale supersix slightly too big. Will opt for a longer stem if necessary. What do people think?

    Yes I was a bit torn between 58cm or 61cm but Westbrook advised 61cm - I'm 6ft 3....

6ft 1.5 and going for the 56. Long legs though so it's actually a teeny bit longer than ideal for me. Most people of my height I'd assume would take the 58.

I'm 5'9" with long legs (33") and short body. I ride a 54 with a 100mm stem and a layback seat post. The CR1 has a much longer head tube than the supersix and I think you've gone too small.

I think I agree. From the Scott sizing chart, I was marginal whether to get the 54 but opted for the 52 because he's just inside the range for his height.

I reckon those Scotts would look good with a grey Ultegra groupset (~£595) & wheels (~£235). Think I'll do my usual trick of hesitating long enough for them all to go.

Just when I thought I'de made the right decision...
I read this and came to the conclusion that the small was the one. Sick of riding frames too big for me.

Yes - I think I read somewhere that they have changed the frame shape to a more comfortable endurance geometry with a longer head tube

Yup, major geometry change in 2010. The old CR1 is closer to the current Addict in shape.

Give them a ring tomorrow morning and see if they can change it.

So if my supersix 54 felt too big and I had 10cm of seatpost showing. My leg inseam is 31'' and height is 5ft 9 then I should get the 54 (medium) in CR1. Just need to clarify this before making any more mistakes. I think I have a longer torso and arm lengths are normal (if there are such things.) thanks for any advice BTW this is doing my nut in.

Phrasing it very carefully...... I have at least a couple of inches greater length than you in my legs so I suspect you are fine with 58.

I was fitted properly for my Look so I'll only by a fairly similar sized frame to that. The Scott is 14mm longer in the top tube and 4mm taller in the headtube than the Look. The Ribble is inbetween. Some slight changes in frame angles but I'm confident it is the right one!
