Desperately trying to not buy the giro factors from SP. Now in all sizes for 140....

Yeah. If I remember rightly from my fitting they are not as narrow as SIDI. Giro also do a wide fitting for all their shoes though.

Hmmm - perhaps I should just stick to S-Works. I spent months hunting for a shoe that fits last time and, even then, ended up with a half-size - my feet are an odd shape it seems :oops:

I ordered a few Giros and found them all way too narrow sadly.

Quality there for sure, but they were not even close for me fit wise.

I've heard many bad reports of the Juicy's, what makes the Elixirs so much better?

Changing pads on Elixirs is about a million times easierr. That alone is a good enough reason. I find my Elixier 5's good, although they do need a good bleed now.

I am not sure on details but the most obvious difference seems to me that the pads are loaded from the top, rather than clipped in from underneath. Also the levers are 'ambidextrous' meaning that you dont buy a set with front/rear the wrong way around and need to swap them on day 1.

The big difference to me though, is that my MTB with Juicy 3s has given nothing but trouble - constant noises, grit getting stick in them, contamination, springs pinging off the rotors, sticky pistons, needing to adjust and realign the calipers almost literally every other ride and all sorts. My Boardman Hybrid with Elixir 1s has done over 4000 miles and I havent needed to touch them other than replacing the pads on the fronts. I think my problems with the Juicy's are fairly typical too. The Elixirs may be no better - I might have just got lucky with this pair - many people say to stick with Shimano, but what I am certain of is that I will never run Juicy's again...!

Those are similar problems that friends of mine have had with Juicys. It just made me wary of Avid hydraulics. Although I have just put BB7s on my new bike, but they have the best reports for road cable discs. I've got Shimano hydraulics on my MTB and they seem fine.

Exactly. So I gave up on Avid completely and bought SLX brakes. They are much nicer. That said, the Avid calipers never fractured at the mount......... :?
