I have never understood why Rapha gets such a bashing when there are other companies trying to fleece us to a greater extent.None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.0 -
To defend the Assos price (only slightly), their gear is incredibly sophisticated - loads of panels, many of them in different materials and well-cut - much more so than any other stuff I've seen. Now, whether any of us need this is highly questionable, but I do think you are getting something for the money not just exactly the same jersey as someone else sells for a lot more money. I'm not saying it's good value however. I never pay anything even close to full price for any of the Assos gear I own (except maybe for the chamois creme )ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0

Some Assos is very good and I am happy to have some but that jersey is a perfect example of how to fleece cyclists. So is the Rapha tweed jacket but the vast majority see through that.
PS, the Assos jersey is a bargain as the RRP is £175.
My only point was why is it only Rapha that get picked on. Just using the Assos as an example.None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.0 -
Dont know what they will be like but Aldi are getting 'motorcyle neck warmers' that look a lot like buffs for £2.99 which is a lot cheaper then i paid for a real buff last autumn which to be honest hasnt washed all the well.

The Rapha stuff is cool, stylish and well made, as may be the Assos gear but it far to 80s blake 7 for my tastesRule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.0 -

That's funny because the link says the RRP is £159 and it's £139. But I take your point.
I think Rapha gets picked on because it's soooo "Urban" Style is more important, I sense, than it is, say, with Assos. Hence there's often limited availability of colours. At Assos I sense that function rules first and foremost and they would care less if something looked silly if it performed well. I can't see Assos ever selling a tweed jacketROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0 -

Ditto - can't stop a rogue thought of Travis* when I see AssosMan.
Season one, not three.
I have entirely different thoughts when I see AssosLady
AssosMan freaks me out - I'd be much happier buying ladies bibs...ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0 -

Anyone seen any decent deals on bib tights?
Currently using some Sports direct MFX ones, comfy enough but they have the structural integrity of jam so want to try something different.
Dont really want to spend more than £50 if I can help it....strava - http://app.strava.com/athletes/1217847

I'm using Sports Direct tights at the moment. Found 'em just fine and they'll do me until next Winter (hopefully won't need to use them much longer) when i can buy some decent ones.0

If you follow this thread back a few pages there are some highly recommended ones which beat the castelli ones which are half price from 70/80 to 30 or so.0

Yep - I have the more expensive ones with the blue pad, they are fine function wise, the pad is actually good but mine are falling to pieces already and I have probably only worn them 15 times.
Commuting every day now so need to get some more....coriordan wrote:If you follow this thread back a few pages there are some highly recommended ones which beat the castelli ones which are half price from 70/80 to 30 or so.

Only got them in a small, and they sound Itallian, so that probably means slightly too small for a stick thin midget.
The Altura's look ok for £35, might order some of those....strava - http://app.strava.com/athletes/1217847

That's fine for me, will wear normal shorts/bibs underneath anyway to save washing them every day.
Just ordered some anyway, not much more than Sports direct so worth a punt.strava - http://app.strava.com/athletes/1217847

Would I notice a difference if I paid the extra for these rather than my usual Rubino slicks?0 -

In my experience, not a lot. I bought a set for the Etape Caledonia having previously found them good (faster) versus my Gatorskins. But, TBH, vs the Rubino Pros I was running, the only difference I could tell was that they punctured more (a lot more). The proof of the pudding is that when I rode Ireland end-to-end I rode on the Rubinos. If I was going to buy some "faster" but robust tyres I'd buy the Vittoria PavesROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0 -
I have a pair of Rubino Pro Slicks for sale in the classifieds for £27.50 if of interest to anybody.0
