Just looks like you were lazy and didn't pump the rear sus enough, and the forks sucked up too much of the slope, also as jadamson said, you were in drop position, not rad jumping position.

Also big no-no, when jumping to flat land slightly on the back wheel cause it can't turn left or right.

Why would you jump to flat and push the front wheel down to land first unless you wanted a pogo stick ride (which was what you got)? :)

My rear wheel spannering was epic fail today incidentally. Forgot to buy new nipples for the spokes so the bike is sitting there with new spokes loose in the hub. Got to see if the LBS will sell me two as the minimum order on wiggle is 100 of the buggers. Never, ever going to use that many.

Really can't claim to know anything about jumps, but pushing or angling down so much like that doesn't seem right, but I wouldn't really know. Is landing on the front wheel supposed to be more correct though?

Only for jumps with a downslope like this, because you are meant to line the bike up the with the downslope so your front wheel will always land first if you do it right.

I would love to have a go on that table top. Started to like them bad boyz, sooner or later need to learn how to bloody master those pesky sharp jumps. Think I shouldn't have rushed the bike to the ground but let it flow a bit more in the air instead. Never mind about the bad entry onto the jump.

@Atz - shouldn't be a problem - Evans sold me one when I broke one. Was 20p or something silly. Even took the old one out back to measure - can't have made much profit.
Beware of annoying Popstar. As the master of cinematography he could make us all look silly on Youtube. I think he did it on purpose - chicks dig scars.

The trails around Labyrinth at Swinley have quite a few of those IIRC.

You need to weight the back of the bike just enough so the forks don't compress too much, but without looping out backwards.

It is one of those things that just happens though, don't worry about it too much.

@Richard if you are around, how do you set up a Fox DHX air shock? It sounds incredibly complicated

By no means I would go over the bars on that sharp take-off. I did intentionally force front wheel to land first, but guess cos I was turning-leaning into take-off pulling all weight onto the left side, that what did it for me. I think.

Your angle of take off wouldnt have affected it that much if you landed flat or slightly rear wheel bias, yes a massive angle would make a difference but looking at the video (from what i can tell) it wasnt an extreme. As a rule of thumb you should try and get the bike to match the gradient off your landing or slightly rear wheel bias (but only a tiny bit) being central horizontally helps but you can land at an angle if you get the vertical landing correct.

I will have to ride that a little more often at lower speed just to get better feeling. Think it was a bad idea to rush the bike into landing, hence the wrong forcefull landing of front wheel but bloody hell the whole landing angle was heavily leaned onto the left side. The bike just run away from me at that attempt really.

Thel33ter that bike looks as if it screams to be ridden hard, therefore you are welcome to join me at attacking some natural stuff no excuses accepted.

The only way to bed it inn, is to attack! Don't turn into a -Ponce, who will polish and wash his bike. Ride it proper. It will reward you. From this day, you must bin pikey Kona clothes for classy Specialized team gear, and look all Gucci ... you will ride automatically faster and better in that gear, trust me.

Really looking forward to see Cooldad riding FS.

Can't afford any new kit now, although some 5 10 Sam Hill's may be arriving.

As for polishing bikes, the Autoglym's waiting

Oh yea, Cooldad, I'll indefinitely lend you the Kona for a couple of chains, cassettes and some gloves

    @thel33ter - turning it up a notch now :D

And with cooldad on the Kona he can move up to the next level too. Just needs padding, full face, and you can go to Aston :D (remember both to bring the helmets though, no riding without if one of you forgets! ;)).

  • @Popstar you basically forgot to jump, the front rolled over the lip as if you were trying to pump through the jump while the back did the only thing it could at that speed and jump.

I think somewhere like swinley would be good for you to go to and practice them, both the jump trail and labyrinth have some good tables to get the feel for being in the air.

I'll come with once fully healed. :)
  • @ thel33ter one thing depending on the size of your frame with an after market DHX5 you may need to take the shock of to pump up the piggy back as spesh had one designed specifically for. because it was so close to the tube.

and if its a M or L frame, Id guess M max for you, you can put a rear shock up to 8,75 x 2.75 will give you 7 inch rear or the smallest you can fit is 8.5 x 2.25 (140 mm ) around 5 inch.
it means you can play with geometry and BB height.
Make sure you get both shock shuttels Hi and Low they modify your head angle by from 68 to 69.5

so lots to play with in future. but Tbh bike like it is will be planted and limits are far away..

I agree with ATZ and cooldad.

No skills required. Just sense of humour :D

I can't wheelie/manual and barely get the back wheel off the ground either, so match my skills probably.

Could you all keep up if I had one of them fancy full sussers tho :P

In all seriousness i've been considering getting one, will see how my shoulder feels once i'm back riding again a bit of flex at the back may feel nicer on them longer rides.

@submityournentries - like the ragley build you have, something that can take some abuse for sure.
