Oh, and it's dig day Sunday on Yoghurt Pots (so that will be closed obviously) - http://hurtwoodtrails.co.uk/693/2013-dig-day-dates/
I keep saying I'll do one of these. I did express an interest in volunteering but it's always on ride days. I should get involved to give something back really. Though I do donate to the 'friends'. Suspect for this one you'd need waders as the 'pots' will be waist full of water!0 -
deadkenny wrote:Wedgie is Pitch along with the switchback one left of it, the other stuff further left by the bench and apparently there's one more further still. No idea on the names but they've got big gaps and stuff. Then the stuff to the right that I have no idea of the names either. In fact Wedgie is just what I was told when first shown it and I bet it's known as something else.
Anyway, yeah will see who's up for what.
Not bothered about wedgie to be honest but the one to the left and also the one with the gaps are what I want to ride. Hopefully it'll be worth it on Sunday. Might try it out anyway just because I'm bored of Swinley. This winter has been shite!0 -
I'm up for Surrey Hills and helping out on Sunday...not sure if I will be useful though0

Just to clarify I'll be Surrey Hillsing on Sunday but starting at whatever the car park half way up Pitch by the wedgie runs is called and doing runs on whichever fun tracks I can find, ending probably on BKB, but pushing up each time. So basically no big riding loops and if a track is running nicely, doing it a few times over. Would be good to ride with whoever wants to join i.e. Milko9000, Arigold and Deadkenny (maybe Cooldad) so far.
However if you guys want to do a loop and get some miles under your belts then maybe we could meet up at some point anyway and session something fun ie Northern Monkey or whatever. Anyway guys let me know what you think and I'll PM you my number.0 -
The dig stuff is unlikely as that's a whole morning and a bit taken up. If they did it tomorrow then would be much better, but they keep picking the day people are up for riding.
Tomorrow, may or may not be out, and/or some possible minor fettling I might or might not do. Maybe.0 -
Have to be at the airport earlier than the crack of sodding dawn tomorrow, so might just veg when I get home. Sunday sounds OK as long as it's not hosing down.
What sort of time are you planning BDJ?I don't do smileys.

I hear Will's heading for the Hills on Saturday if anyone's keener on that option. My sniffle appears increasingly to be manflu which might put me off doing either day at this rate. But I wanna ride I wanna I wanna! Haven't been on the bike since mid-December, it's driving me mad.0

Going to aim for 11 I reckon...0

Not too early. That's good.I don't do smileys.

So we normally park at the walking bottom car park right? Is the car park I'm looking for just further up walking bottom or is it more complicated than that?
Ps Cooldad are you planning on joining me on my 'ride fun tracks and push up' quest or do more of a bigger ride and join me wherever along the way?0 -
Yeah, just carry on up the road from Peaslake and the carpark is on the left halfway up the hill. If I come I'll probably play, although I'll avoid scary bits/do chicken runs, obviously.I don't do smileys.

Cool Should be fun. Hopefully Arigold, Deadkenny and Milko9000 will join too.0 -
So 11 for us at Walking Bottom car park and meet BDJ at some point, or go for the top car park anyway? The top just means having to climb all the way back up at the end if we head down into Peaslake later.
BDJ - were you going to drive to BKB later, else you'd have the same problem (or worse because of the DH rig)0 -

Drive over to BKB is my plan. If anyone thinks I'm mad to bother with bringing my DH bike to Surrey Hills by the way, it's the only bike I have at the moment. Had to get rid of one bike due to space issues and the big bike is what I've ridden most over the last year. Anyway I'll probably look to spend a little while riding each run that I enjoy including BKB so will push up in-between. Maybe meet you guys somewhere up Pitch and then arrange to meet at BKB a little later too? Will see tomorrow I guess.
This is the one I'm most interested in on Pitch:

That'll be it.0 -
My last two trips down to Surrey hills have both resulted in failure; knackered chain and then blown out sidewall but I reckon 3rd time lucky tomorrow. I'll be starting from Dorking at 8ish and doing loop to Peaslake and back, if you see someone on their own on a black and white Giant FS then say hello.
Have a good ride,
Damian.0 -
BDJ - I like the sound of sessioning a few trails so count me in for your ride. It'd be good to learn a few surrey hills trails and to have a bit of company.
I'm only a beginner though so don't expect me to be pushing you down the trails.
Look out for a lost newbie on a blue ragley bagger at 11 in some car park half way up pitch hill!0 -

I'll pm you my number. Do you know the car park I mean? I'm not 100% on the area myself but should be able to find some fun stuff from what I remember.0 -

The two times I've been to peaslake I've parked at walking bottom, but it sounds easy enough to find the other car park from there. I'll prob still park in walking bottom at ride up to the next car park, only I hate finishing a ride with a climb!0 -
The fireroad climb to the top car park is a mess from logging. Usually end up going part way and up to the left, do some of the trails around there and then on up.
Anyway, on the road, just keep driving past the bottom Walking Bottom car park and keep on that road until it meets another road, turn left going down and on the left is the car park. If you come across the Windmill pub you've gone too far (that's around the bottom of the 'DH' trails Danny's sessioning).
And yeah, ending on a climb sucks. Rest of us I think are meeting at Walking Bottom and doing, I don't know what really, and then may bump into Danny. Not sure who's going to be there, me, maybe Cooldad, maybe milko9000 and maybe some others off Facebook. All up in the air. I'll ride whatever.0 -
sill too ill. am sad, but just going for a 30min walk yesterday had my legs like jelly!0
-
Cheers Danny for the brief ride i managed, and showing me the slippiest trail on pitch hill! Sorry i couldn't stay longer, but it'd be good to ride again soon.
As promised BDJ, here's some of the pics i took:
The first drop
A nearby gap jump
Although I was sadly useless at riding, and my seatpost had broken, i was at least useful for taking some action shots0 -
Wow! Great shots there. What camera? Love the mist.
Sorry to miss you. Bumped into Danny after you'd gone and we messed about a bit on Winterfold with a few others. Nice day and reasonably grippy for muddy.
Those drops look bigger than they seemed from above. Good job I didn't try them. I need stuff a third of the size to practice on with wipe open clean landings to be confident. Still very much learning that kind of stuff.0 -
Thanks, yeah I thought I'd bring some fog with me to add a bit of atmosphere to the shots
I was using the entry level Canon DSLR the 1100D, which I bought the missus for Christmas (well obviously it was for me really since she's not been allowed to touch it yet).
I have to admit I didn't attempt the drops or jumps, they seemed too big for a beginner like me, I really needed some practice on something smaller.
Do you know some trails with some more manageable drops to practice on?0
