I know DK uses GT85 on things, although in theory it should make no difference as the bearings are sealed.

I use silicon lube on the forks and shock to clean out the seals a bit.

Yeah just GT85. It's mainly just to try and reduce the creaking I get in my pivots. The GT is famous for it.

Doesn't lube the bearings as they are sealed as thel33ter says, but a little around the surface may help the creaks.

I'm a bit wary though as although GT85 has lubricant it is also a degreaser though technically isn't. Spray it on mucky stuff and it'll wash it away and potential is it can wash away grease around the bearing contact surfaces. Best to avoid on cage bearings. Also spraying on the chain and mechs shifts some muck whilst applying a lubricant coat but still need some oil on the chain really. Generally I spray the rear and front mechs, usually because I haven't cleaned them.

Fork Juice, or similar silicon lube will not destroy any grease, and makes the stanchions loverly and smooooth.

Its also very good to lube your board/skis on dendex and other carpet type dry-ski slopes :)

Fork juice :) thanks. The bike felt great yesterday at Surrey Hills by the way so thanks again for that too. New tires are next because I felt myself slipping occasionally and didn't have the confidence to go as fast as I really wanted. It was seriously wet though!
  • was a good ride yesturday then at SH? ive been there once was abit scary lol. would go again though! is anyone around on weds eve for swinley?

Do you think those tires are good all rounders even when it's not muddy though? I was looking at High Rollers, DH not XC, for all round goodness...?

High rollers are cool too. Mud xs will amaze you in the dry stuff though, they last well beyond their 'mud' tag might have you believe.

  • Sorry, that sounded a little like I was doubting your advice, I really don't know anything about it I was just wondering about the different options that's all :) Are the mud xs as good as high rollers in the dry?

Going for around £20 each - not too bad. I tried some Onza Porcs last winter - not bad.

I might be able to make a Saturday afternoon - take cooldad up on the offer of a guide round the Hills. Sadly only a might as I have to stay in for a delivery but guessing if it does come on the Saturday as promised it'll be earlier rather than later.

Might not be able to make SH on Saturday as have things to do in the morning and it'll probably end up being a bit late.

Think I'll probably explore Normandy and Puttenham this Saturday (as I can ride there). Never been round there but apparently there are some brief dirt jump sections in Normandy (according to Mountain biking UK book) and good sections in Puttenham Common (according to South East mountain biking VP series guide book). If anyone is around let me know - hopefully I'll be heading out around 1500hrs from Shepherd and Flock in Farnham.

Lol - morning's no good for me, but then afternoon does give you time to sort the bike out ;) . In fairness I'd hate to have anyone plan a ride around my planned rides. Last time that happened it was a disaster  . Tomorrow I'm going to try two places I've never ever been to before so chances are I'll just be riding around in circles lost!

  • Riding Swinley tomorrow at 10am. Gunna be a faster ride taking in all the usual/good trails. Hitting it hard. Couple of laps. Get dirty. Home in 3 hours. Brap.

Thel33ter is helping out on a DOE camp tonight and I pick him up tomorrow morning, not sure when yet. So might make afternoon.
Sunday is ok, weather reports seem a bit confused.

Right, little blast round Swinley I think for me. 10.30ish.
  • cooldad The weather is actually looking okay now for Sunday so I might have to forfeit the Grand Prix and go for a ride. Are you thinking Surrey Hills or Swinley?

Thanks for showing up like a knight in shining spandex and saving the day with your magic link. Much appreciated. Would of been a lame walk home without you showing up so cheers.

  • I don't know how many people here actually live in London rather than near but this has the potential to be interesting, especially if more like it pop up:

    http://www.thetrax.co.uk/Bike-Park/Futu ... -loop.html

They're having a meeting or something on Sat with the designer and I guess maybe there's a chance to have a ride of the track so I might pop along.
