Heh, that was unfortunate. I've been buzzing for too long with suggestions on skills course maybe it was counter productive. Fear comes from unknown** that's what puts me off too. Hope I fully recover from my last OTB moment and finally bomb that bad ass gap jump at Leith. What could have been (Video)
I'll choose not put too much stake into someone's opinion who is admittingly terrible though0 -
Went to see DK today. Seems to be on the mend thankfully but given how he looks and the damage he did, he's a while from riding again. Good spirits tho0

I'm tempted to pop down to surrey and go do that first gap on saturday, if only I lived closer0 -
Why not do it on the way to BKB? Park at Landslip or Coldharbour and go over the top, past the lake, up holmbury, session barrys then back0
-
Pretty much what I was thinking, plus there's the smaller jumps near coldharbour to get my eye in.0
-

Just really need to get some skills in now and correct everything I'm doing wrong.
Going to take a break for a little bit whilst the back mends. 6 weeks they say . At the very least the next couple off work and not likely to touch a bike in that time.
P.S. Given the logistical situation involved and hassles of getting hold of my parents and so on, I think it may be worth us starting to carry contact details when we go out on rides, and maybe swapping them with regulars.
Did get a GPS track out of the phone, though it's much confused by a trip in the ambulance and around Frimley hospital: http://www.sports-tracker.com/#/workout ... t6c641v9rr0 -

Bike is coming to bits tommorow for a spring clean.... I may also be out for 6 weeks while I work out how it goes back together.

Are you going down to Devon for a bit?
Your idea of contact details is probably a good one. Glad you didn't say next of kin though.I don't do smileys.

DK seeing as you will have some time on your hands, how about a database of regulars - addresses, phone numbers, contacts, medical scheme details, blood group? How morbid.
Then make some cards.I don't do smileys.

Chicksands sounds interesting, not sure it's your style place though, basically all downhilly stuff, plus it's 60/70 miles away. And now you know, and knowing is half the battle

Atz wrote:Check his facebook; he's in hospital and has been since Saturday. Some fractures in his spine and obviously some issues from getting knocked out but the prognosis is good from what his brother says.
Bloody Eck ! Just realised how serious your prang was DK , hope the prognosis was on the money. Swift recovery to you !0 -
I had that at the back of my mind all day today. Watched Bungalistic and someone who may pop up here doing some good stuff though.0
-
Sorry to hear about your misadventure DK. Glad to hear it's healing up well0

To be fair PRE-midday is out of order for Sundays.
Love to join but rear wheel is off, freehub is stiff-n-crunchy, currently searching for advice on how to inspect/diagnose/clean/service etc. Could be gunk, could be wear, could be fubar.
Cassette needed a scrub anyway so gonna have a play around with it._______________________________________

DK, sorry to hear about the off. Sounds scary. All the best for a speedy recovery. Ian0

Thanks all. Out of hospital now and down in Devon with the folks to recover for a bit.
Slight niggle is I said next time I was down this way I wanted to do Gawton (gnarly DH place) but I can't now.cooldad wrote:DK seeing as you will have some time on your hands, how about a database of regulars - addresses, phone numbers, contacts, medical scheme details, blood group? How morbid.

Maybe just shove a framework like drupal or what have you onto some webhosting, that way we can extend whatever we want (also means we can put a calendar in etc).0
-
Some special thanks required also to Bungalistic who helped me out (I apparently walked all the way back to Go Ape with him in a concussed state and I have no memory of that), whoever it was at Go Ape that helped out also apparently, and of course the ambulance guys and definitely impressed with the Frimley Park Hospital folk.
Anyway, hope you're still out doing Surrey Hills rides. I'm going to miss them for a few weeks.
Also need to get a new helmet. Any good stuff about? That's on top of a full face which I also want to get anyway.0 -
I've liked my Giro Xen and have my eye on an Urge endur-o-matic but have some reservations about how it might cool the head. Let me know if/when you want me to pop up with that pressure suit when you're back home.
As for being off the bike, you can take advantage of the good weather and hike a bit at least and take photos.0
