I don't really mind that TBH, and I definitely won't be a sweeper.

    Hi all,

I see the favourable location is Swinley, so I will have to pull out on a purely selfish basis. But thats cool, you chaps have a good ride, and I hope to meet up soon for a SH ride.

    Cheers,

    Shaun

Usual here is Surrey Hills, but seems to be plenty of wimping out* and Swinley has been favoured for a bit. It's okay for some exercise and fun, but not a patch on SH.

    * - okay some have been suffering injuries ;)

Anyway, when I'm back from fun in the snow, I plan to hit SH a fair bit. I've not done it for a long while and yet it used to be a weekly thing. Even longer since I've done Pitch & Winterfold which are my preferred areas. Really need to do it just because I get more exercise doing SH.

It was a problem a few years ago and again now . Think its due to forestry work ie they don't want riders getting hit by falling trees.
I wonder also if the fuss over the trail near BKB has rallied some of the locals into having a bit of a moan, so the old contentions come to the surface again.

Though it's going to be an increasing problem as the sport is getting rapidly more popular, and as more people look to ride somewhere other than insurance friendly trail centres.

But I've been doing as advised, and keeping clear of Redlands just due to the conditions this time of year.

As for the police, I'm not sure they'd have the powers to confiscate bikes. It's a tort law situation, i.e. trespass. It's something for the civil courts between you and the landowner really. They can get involved in getting you off the land if they request it, but not sure they can do much else.

Dk you are right that trail is bloody stupid that has been put in next to bkb. Police have been in asking people to leave. Like I said mostly due to hse , however in redlands for example someone made a new trail by cutting down saplings. Bearing in mind its a working woodland that was stupid ! ! The landowner has now lost money and to be honest I can see why they peed off.
Cheers for keeping away from redlands, its a shame but need to let things settle this year.

Not out this weekend now as Mrs has plans for me . Might get out Sunday but will see probably about next weekend though.

WTF? The noir setup has blown up already? That's a worry.

I'm stripping mine tomorrow morning along with the HT and cleaning the whole lot properly.

    Hi guys,

Back in London for this weekend and was wondering if there's a ride arranged for the weekend that I could come down for?

    Will be bringing my tallboy!

We don't seem to be doing very well. Maybe Swinley on Sunday, bit vague at the moment looks like me and Atz maybe possibly.

as there will be no train service to Martins heron on Sunday, I have to ride alone (or perhaps with my friend - he is gonna ride at 1st time) on Saturday.
Approximately at 11:00-11:30 we (me ) will be there.

Kenn - You could always get the train from London to Crowthorne and then ride the 4 miles up the road to the lookout. Could even enter the woods from that side and add some singletrack to your "commute"

that said I'm considering riding tomorrow rather than Sunday so I can take the FS out and still have time to clean it. Choices choices...

Hello guys, hope you're all well.
After my graceful swan dive over the bars at Swinley a couple of weeks back, turns out i tore a muscle and probably fractured a rib
No riding for another couple of weeks so going to try and fit a new headset using the tried and tested breadboard & hammer technique. Any diy tips on fitting the fork crown race?

Sorry to hear about the ribs Will, that's not a fun injury. I used a length of plastic piping for fitting a crown race. Could also use copper pipe.

I'm going to head to Surrey Hills on sunday. I'll be at the car park just up the road from the bike shop in Peaslake for 10.00 if anyone fancies joining.

Hi Will, best and easy solution is to heat crown race with heat gun or if you don't have that just put it to the oven and bake to 150C for about 10min, after that remove it gentle with pliers and drop on fork stanchion, don't forget to put a little bit grease around stanchions, usa piece of wood and gently tap it in with small hammer. Mine takes about 1min to fit.

@Will I use a bit of breadboard for the crown race as well. (That split off when using it to hammer something) Just use it as a drift to tap around and seat it bit by bit. Hammers are my favourite tool. They normally go on fairly easily.
