  • once again seem to miss all the riding days :( working tomorrow off thursday and friday. Good news is my new bike is taking bike form now instead of being parts around my bedroom/shed, so next time out will probably be on it :).
  • I've just ordered an RP23 the correct length (185mm) for the Marin and am waiting on some paypal funds to clear (should be tomorrow) so I can pay for the Fox Talas forks I've got a guy saving for me.

By the time the stiches come out the thumb, (it split open again last week  :( ) I should have the parts here and fitted so the Marin won't look or ride like a jacked up jeep.

The plan is to be out on the trails again by the second weekend in Jan.

I did try and ride the wife's little Stumpjumper FSR but while it's OK for me just hacking up and down the Dowslink with the dog, anything like a steep climb or a bit of singletrack shows the limitations of a 6'1" bloke riding a 16" womens specific framed bike   .

@thel33ter - see if you can read my mind.
@MrB - working for a living is a bummer - but look on the bright side - you only have a half century or so until you retire.
@Andy - try superglue. Hope it's not a pink bike.

Kind of ridiculously fun ride today. Just me and Stan as all the other wimps stayed away.
Combination of slimy mud, slush, and just enough ice thrown in to make it interesting. Did bits of wedgie two on my backside with the bike on top of me (twice if I have to be honest), including one of the berms. Was faster than when I try it on the bike. Which meant a really wet muddy bum for the rest of the ride. Although by the end was so covered in the stuff it didn't matter.
And my home made neo guard mudguard thingy worked well. Next is to make a Stan special crudcatcher out of an old bottle.

I'm off until the 4th so once I've got my car MoT sorted and the sodding suspension fixed (I blame the crappy carparks where we ride and my street for the problems) I'm back on the bike. Who else is around?

Back at work tomorrow, but we have a ride planned for the 2nd, and possibly the 3rd.

Tried Superglue.......The extreme cold kept it from setting properly  :(

And NO......It's not pink (my wife doesn't do pink! Thank god.)

Anyone for a ride tomorrow AM? Going to drag out the HT I think so it'll be a bit more gentle.

    That's not a women's Stumpy, just a small... a 2004 Stumpy FSR Comp IIRC.

Those who contemplated the Brass Monkeys did well to stay away, a gritty bike-eating mess! I'd avoid Swinley until it freezes again, SH should be alright, never gets too muddy up there!

Yeah right. Yesterday it was rather muddy, with a nice layer of semi frozen slush on top.

Doesn't eat your pads in the same way though, and virtually everything remains rideable. I think I'll stick to the road this weekend though!

Given my car is still at the garage I'll have to drag the SS road bike out of the shed for tomorrow. Still, it's good for the legs to lap Richmond park without gears.

If you can't find anybody to play out with in SH , there's a few of us out for a ' pootle ' around Swinley . As always the more the merrier ! Look Out 9 45 am for 10 00am

Stan - Depends when they call me to collect the car. Failed MoT for totally stupid reasons but need to get it done as it needs taxing next week.

You could cycle here, swap bikes and cycle back. You are getting lazy.

So long as it will fit on my bike rack that's fine. Any chance your dad can drop it to me or let me know where to collect it from? Pm me if easier?
I can collect you and drive to lookout then?

Hope I am. But it only takes about 15-20 minutes to get from my place to his, and another 10 or so to Swinley, so you can probably lie in another quarter of an hour.

Great ride today, actually spent most of it riding as well  Some new bits (to me anyway) and Deer Stalker was great today. Cheers to Shmikuk for bringing my bike.

New tyres also fitted after half an hour of fighting

Sunday and Monday look cold and clear...

Not been out for what seems like months and months so if anyone's up for starting 2011 as we mean to go on... (lazy, social riding, havin a laugh and perfecting your favorite MTB manoeuvres.. ie: eating Leith Hill cake)... let me know.

Until then.... Merry freeeekin New Year!

No worries. Was a good ride, nearly 15 miles by the end and I think we were all feeling it after Christmas excesses! Happy new year everyone!
