Is walking bottom the car park next to the pub? I.e. If you walked out of the village shop where I met you all take a right before the pub and the carpark on your left?

Not sure if there's any confusion here, especially as there's a Surrey Hill in Swinley, which is very different to the Surrey Hills. We're at the latter Sunday.

mtb britain forums do a regular Swinley ride also. Might be worth checking out.

From the village centre, facing towards the pub on the right and the bike shop on the left, go straight on, past the bike shop, round the corner, past the church and keep going until you get to the big car park. The road is called Walking Bottom. It's at the bottom of the trails up to Pitch hill.

Nice to be in demand , just wish it didn't involve all my Sundays.

Hopefully catch up before the years out . Stan

BTW, a mate and I are off to the screening of LifeCycles and Vast in central London on Tuesday if anyone else is going.

Reminds me, maybe we should do a London Calling evening out before the end of the year? Somewhere convenient for everyone (or equally inconvenient to all).

Fantastic ride today with epic cake stops :). Sorry I couldn't stay for the last hour but my back was really hurting. I think i aggravated the back ache i often get with that fabulous off i had at the beginning.

Still can't believe that i didn't crash again! I feel like my riding came on leaps and bounds. Really enjoyed it. Great company and I hope i can join you again soon. :)

By the way, here is our route. Check out the epic average speed lol. There is something wrong with the altitude i always get reported. It is either plain wrong or upside down. I am not sure which.

Great ride, surprisingly dry too. New forks are great, and noticeably stiffer than the Foxes :D

I hope that ave speed includes stops or it's just plan embarrassing.

Good fun ride though, epic cake stops are the only reason I go.

Haha yes it includes all stops :). You can see the sheer magnitudes of the stops by looking at the wiggly line under the map. Anytime it flatlines at zero, we stopped :). Still buzzing from the ride... Or perhaps the pain killers. Either way, feeling good! And no mention of GGNNNAAAAARRRRRRRR :)

Dubcat - Obviously I don't know if you're a long-term backpain sufferer but it might be down to core strength. When I first started riding I'd be in pain after a few hours in the saddle and then a crash would usually finish me off as it'd jar an already tense set of muscles. Can exercise to improve it but ultimately, if you're riding it'll go away eventually.

Atz, thanks for the tip. I think i am lacking core strength and this causes my arms and shoulders to hurt when riding. However, the backache is something else. I used to fly to San Francisco a lot and after one flight in which i slept the whole way i woke up unable to stand straight due to backache. The doctor called It lower mechanical back failure which basically means it is muscular. It's nee there in the background ever since. Had it for over 5 years now :(

I've got a similar thing, my back goes unless I have the saddle at the perfect height, or am only riding for 20mins with stopping and stretching, may be worth fiddling with the saddle height a bit.

I find on the verge of too high is best for me, but it also depends on saddle angle, what angle you end up sitting at, bar height and stem length.

I ve also had back pains, and on long run a week bottom part of your back will cause strain on quads in legs. ( if you start riding hard)
a few simple exercises on a mat. or swiming even better will quickly build up and then you ll be fine.

then sort out your cockpit height of sten and bars ect, right seat position, height an how far back or not.

@Dubcat, a good gauge of core strength is the plank (google it). http://www.bikeradar.com/fitness/articl ... lank-26223

Situps are also ok, but the best would be massive gnarly tailwhips

Didn't you have that one on video? Reminds me, must sort out the rest of the photos.

Was good, though was tired by the time we got to the open section. Where that guy in the video took a stylish dismount I think is where they've put a warning sign now. I was cautious there but yet it was fine to roll. A bit like the warning on False Teeth. Not much of a drop and the angle of the roll was shallow, but I guess if you took it at speed and weren't aware of it, could be messy.

Thing I like about trail centres in Wales is you can pretty much trust them and go for it without anything too suicidal about to hit you without warning.

@Dubcat - become another Apprentice with Popstar and you'll be doing black runs within an hour :D (whether you like it or not ;)).
