Hi Dave, - no mate, it's very quiet. Mind you, it did develop a creak last year whenever I got out the saddle, and it took me a while to track it down, - it turned out to be the rear (Novatec) hub bearings (once I sussed this out Ugo fixed it smartish, top man). I think my elimination train called in at pedals, headset, bb, stem, before I arrived at the rear hub. Let me know what it is if you manage to track it down. Good luck!0

Mine creaks around the headset. It creaks when I start off then stops. I think it must be movement between the headset races and the frame, but haven't experienced this with my Ti Van Nich with the same headset.0
-
Hmmm. I started off with a FSA headset, and recently changed it to a CK. No probs with either. Does it creak going uphill? (similar frame loading to pulling away)0
-
It creaks when I put weight on the bars. I've had a CK on there since the start. Maybe I need to actually do some maintenance on it.0

I've posted on here before when I first got my VN Chinook but it's gone through a couple of changes since then. First it went a little retro for a short time but most recently thegroupset and wheels have been changed as well as giving a few other bits and pieces a freshen up. First ride with shimano groupset and new wheels was the commute to work this morning. Having spent the last few weeks commuting on a full suss it was a welcome change.

Are you happy with the Chinook? It looks very good, and a nice compromise between speed and comfort. I have only ridden Ti bikes (as opposed to carbon). Also, how did you get rid of the decals? did they leave any marks behind?
Thanks!0 -
I really like my Chinook. It's stiffer than you might expect and has no discernible comfortable titanium feel compared to my last bike which was carbon. I don't really believe that titanium can soak up bumps and is much more noticeably forgiving as some people would claim but when the roads are smooth it does seem to glide along beautifully and I can't say I miss the carbon at all (it cracked after a year). Haven't had any issues with the VN frame of that sort and they do have a good warranty.
I like the classic geometry compared to the more upright sportive styles and I think it suits a titanium frame too.
In terms of the stickers, at first I just rubbed them down with steels wool to remove them but then found using B&Q paint stripper and an old debit card as a scraper very effectice and the job took minutes once the stripper had been left for an hour. I've polished it all with steel wool with a bit of oil on it and it comes up a treat. I was going to get replacement VN stickers but I think I like it better the way it is.0 -
A hair dryer and a plastic card (or windscreen scraper) works well, it only takes a few minutes and there's nothing to clean or buff up after.0
-
Thanks for that advice on how to get rid of the livery. the paint remover and steel wool worked a treat however I am left with a faint outline (almost like a halo) of where the stickers used to be. What is the most effective way to get rid of this?0

My Enigma Echo recently returned after having a refurb - new forks, splash of colour and mirror polished logos - great service by Enigma btw!

Condor that is lovely. What forks are you using? Very subtle colour bands - love it!0

Cheers The forks are Enigma's C-Six. The colour bands are a bit of a tribute to my late Dad so I'm really pleased the way it has turned out. The Enigma badge on the headtube is finished in the same colours!0 -

Indeed. Not sure what it is that does it, but it's right. Even the crankset is right. What are the wheels? Old school Ksyrium SLRs?
Thanks all, I feel a bit guilty I've upgraded it now! Those wheels are old school Ksyrium ES special edition wheels from about 2005 I think.
Here's what the bike looks like now, what do you think, an improvement or not?

The Kyre rims may look better but the archetype rims will provide a nicer ride so it depends on what you want looks when you are of the bike or ride quality when you are on bike. Easy one for me.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0

It's easy for me too, I prefer both the looks and ride of the Archetypes. The Mavics look dated to me...0 -
Need to get some pics of my Seven up here ;-)0

Love that. What a luxury to have as a second bike. If I get one it will be my only road bike as I will have to sell the carbon to fund it. Fast, fun and comfortable? Did you go direct to Enigma or through a dealer? I am considering just getting a frame set, bead finish, blue anodised decals.0

My first ever Ti bike... the previous Merida Cycle Cross 300 proved too slow and heavy... and a Dutch workmate bike fiend persuaded me not to go carbon, oh dear.
Took quite some time to get all the d@mn decals off this Litespeed T5g...
I'll try and get round to a full on OCP style photo...(!) but thought I'd wake this thread up anyway - and sweated my way through a Bangkok day to replace the ugly Deda stem and handlebar for a thomson x2 stem and 3t ergonova Pro alloy bar - first attempt at wrapping bar tape
