that fender is really neat and thanks for the linky to muddynutz..
I'll be ordering one soon.
haven't been out on my 456 for 5days and won't be until Monday .. can't wait it's a blast!!0 -
New bits for bike arrived this morning.
White Crud Pack and White M520 pedals.
Not everyones cup of tea I know, but I have been thinking of going back to clipless for a while now and the mudguards are a personal preference for the dog / horse egg strewn manx hills.

New (to me) wheels arrived this morning. EX325 on Spesh hubs.
Oldies but goodies, perfectly true, perfectly tensioned, nice and smooth and best of all, an absolute bargain at £45 posted.
Can't wait to get out and see how much difference 10mm bolt through rear makes over standard QR.
Shame the hubs are red and not orange or white, but hey, beggars can't be choosers. I'll take function over form in this case.
Weight (including DH Rim tape) = 1420g rear, 1140g front. Not exactly light, but neither am I :P

Bargain wheels
That SLX chainset looks like a work of art, good choice.0 -
I've been a busy little b@stard this year and have just found out that once I've wrapped up the year and paid all the bills I'm going to have a nice little chunk to treat myself. So, rather than waste it on the wife and kids or pay off some more of the mortgage or anything silly like that, I'm going to do the sensible thing and splash out on the bike.
My initial plan was that I was going to build a Surly Pugsley for beach riding, but I've decided I love my 456 so much I want to lavish money on this instead.
Here is my shopping list so far:
I9 Enduro or Crank Bros Iodine AM wheelset
Rev Team Air U-turn or Pike 454 u-turn (need to decide between plush springyness or lightweight Airyness)
Raceface Atlas AM Cranks
Elixir CR Carbons
X-0 Mech and Shifters
XT Cassette
Nobby Nic 2.25
It's all going on this bike, then getting switched over to a 456 carbon frame with some more upgrades (when on-one get round to releasing them).0 -

i would def go for pikes, so much more aggresive!I like bikes and stuff0 -
I know what you're saying. And the only thing that's making me struggle with my decision is the fact that the Pike 454 U-turn (coil) is 5lbs and the Rev Team dual airs are 3.61lbs.
That's a BIG difference.
Of course, the Pikes would be much more plush being coil (and imo, they look better too).
Oh, and the pikes are about a hundred quid cheaper.0 -

Good find, but out of stock.0 -
Nice bike mate. I love my inbred like a son
Anyway if you are planning on getting a carbon 456 hang on with the fork upgrade as the carbon is going to be a tapered steerer. You could just use a headset conversion but that kinda defeats the point.
on ones rock full stop! Forget the 'for the money' tag.0 -
I just bagged myself an "Inbred" 456 Summer Slacker frame in raw finish on eBay , the one that Rusts undernath the Laquer , can`t wait to build it up . Liking the look of yours .My other RIDE is your MOMMA .
My TOILET seat matters more to me than YOUR opinion .
Arguing on the Internet is like being in the Special Olympics , even if you win you are still Retarded .0 -
Hmm, just seen some American Classic AM wheels for around £350. They reportedly weigh around 1900g for the set.
At half the price, I'm finding it harder and harder to justify the I9s.
I'd do a custom buit set, but the problem is I dont know where to start. I want Light, Strong and Pimp (either Orange, White or a combination of the 2).
Might email CRC and Merlin later and see what they suggest.0 -

Nice shopping list
Only thing Is not good is Crank Bros wheel set. I've seen and heard too many horror story's about them. I9's for sure Have been using I9's for over a year and have no trouble with them. Great wheel set. Only thing good about CB, is the look (Bling Bling) but that's it. Ever so I9's have many (Bling Bling) colors to choose.
Here's mine

Xgreygoose Cheers, it's good to hear from someone who actually has first hand experience living with I9s. It'd be their factory Enduro wheelset I was looking at, with custom colours. It's actually the same one they use on their site, the orange hubs with orange spokes and white rims, This one:
They're all well and good on a top of the range 'dale like yours but....
I just cant help but think that £750 I9 wheels are going to be overkill on a 456, even a carbon one. A bit like gucci shoes on a tramp.0 -
Just found a set of orange I9 enduro hubs and spokes laced to white ZTR Flow rims. The EXACT same build I was looking for initially.
They're not new, they are an ex-team set from a well known shop. Price....£400
Now I've just got to hope they dont sell them before I get the money for them.0 -

Hey Goose.
Nah, not got them yet. Still saving and trying to justify £800 wheels to the wife.
I have however seen some ex-team I9s on Stans Flow rims in the Exact colour combo I wanted (pics on the last page). They're just £400 so provided they've not sold by payday I may be having myself a set of those.
At that price though, I'm not holding out too much hope.0 -

The I9's even at £800 are a bargin smiply the best wheels that can be bought IMHO0

Yeh well I want Pikes like the ones on your Wolf Ridge. Looking to get the 454 u-turn coil version and have some custom decals made up pretty much Identical to yours.0

I know what you mean. My wife thinks my Flash is a "2008 ex-display" for my LBS
Even you can't get the used one, you should get the new one's. Good investment. They are a great wheel-set. You will have so much enjoyment from them and the bike will be f@#ing bling bling. It will look so so good.Vodka anyone? "Honk"

Yeh, I agree. I think that even if I can't get those ex-team ones, I'm going to try and get a new set built up. As you say, a lot of money, but performance and looks should make it worthwhile.
Now...anyone want to buy a couple of children? Never raced, only dropped once.0 -

My entire HOUSE cost less than them0
