    Today:
New wheels. cassette, chain, saddle, pedals. brake pads and computer fitted to the Allez.

Had a bit of bother with the chain length and indexing but it's sorted now.

Rear brake caliper showing signs of wear and tear, so they could be next.

Replaced the bar tape on the PX - expected to make a hash of it but happy with the results.

My 20 year old Silca Steel track pump sprang a leak. Stripped it down and the leather barrel washer has started to perish. Made repairs with superglue and silicon sealant, then stripped the track pump to parts for a full service.

The pump's looking a bit tatty, lots of chipped paint, ah bugger it, sanded it down, and re-painted it silk black - done ! Re-assembled and it works like new. Found out that SJS stocks the spare washers for £4. 8)

That is some sweet sounding fettlage.

    Tada........

    Much less tatty.........

new rear mech, changed cantilever front for V and changed 7 spd shifter to V specific 8 spd; be interesting to see if the improved braking will throw me over the top, as the difference seems huge.

Ha ha. See what you mean. Mother in law found a 1950s webley junior air pistol in the attic and asked me to sell it as I have an interest in air rifles.
    It fetched a surprising amount.
Learned a lot from the re-spray and to think that last year fixing a puncture would have been about the limit of my bike knowledge. Looking forward to the next project.

Replaced the worn bottom bracket (3 times... the shop kept giving me the wrong one AND the Specialized web-site lists the wrong one!)

Removed the bloody annoying springs on the rear wheel axle 'cos they were bugging the hell out of me

Removed the rear cassette (almost giving myself a hernia in the process it was on TIGHT!) stripped and cleaned it. (outer 3 cogs were separated) Threw away the wheel guard 'cos it simply ain't needed. Slapped copper grease around everything hidden to make it easier next time

Cleaned and adjusted the rear brakes and finally found out what those 2mm allen screws are for. Now have the brakes at the limit of their adjustment before I need to fit some new blocks.

Used the now adjusted brakes to fix a fairly major buckle on the back wheel and God help me if I didn't do a good job of it! I watched a vid on Youtube and did just what the guy said (1/4 turns, and the cassette side spokes need twice the movement of the other side; also loosen and tighten spokes accordingly) I simply span the wheel until the brake stopped it and adjusted the wheel away - repeated until the wheel span true with barely a flicker of lateral movement.

Finally now that was all done I re-indexed the gears and they change beautifully smoothly now, also sorted the front gears as I think the replacement BB was a couple of mm longer than the old one.

Washed all the London grime off my Wilier, cleaned & re-lubed chain, placed her lovingly back in the living room until the rain stops.

Decided it was time for MTB fettling:
Rear hub dismantled, cleaned, re-greased and put back together. Mmm smooooth.
Time to refit the forks and properly adjust new headset. Where's the crown race that came with the new headset ? It's been months, I might have thrown it out. AR$E !!!!
Anyone got a crown race for a FSA Orbit MX ?
Dammit, off to LBS to plead fettling incompetence and seek spare parts :-(

Put the knobblies back on the P7; it is now an MTB again rather than a heavy slick shod commuter. I forgot how cool it looked with the proper tyres on :D

Swapped one set of XT(M747) SPDs for another that don't squeak and groan when I pedal. Hopefully the noise is from the cleat/pedal meeting point and just needs a clean and lube.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Decided to try a new riding position so flipped the stem and replaced a 15mm spacer with a new 10mm lowering the bars a total of about 22mm, lets see how that goes.

Darn, totally forgot to say I'd removed me brakes down to the fork studs, lovingly cleaned everything, wire wooled for rust, greased and replaced having tweaked with new pads too. Its a pleasure to break now. Now to question my sanity and do one of my hubs...

Oh what do people suggest for locking self loosening nuts? Stem bolts holding me bar in place has nasty habit of doing that since I flipped the stem over.

Threadlock - the blue stuff you see on bolts, made by Loctite amongst others - and a torque wrench to get them to the right tension.

Phew you know it's so warm I think it would be rude not to fire up the BBQ after all these ice cold beers need to be accompanied by quality local meat, mmmm beef burgers, bangers perhaps with cheese and BBQ veg skewers ??

A fitting reward for 60 miles of near perfect riding in the sunshine, don't you think?

PS. Hope your office has aircon

What, he replaced them with pedals that engage and release on demand, and don't randomly snap off their cleats?

Swapped pedals and removed and re-fitted chainset and BB to try to locate the source of the creak emanating from the BB area. The creak has gone, for the moment anyway.

I haven't yet sorted the creak towards the front of the bike. Grrr.

Well that was odd, has my odd friend returned? I went into the garage for beers only to find the front wheel of the trek flat!

eh! I haven't ridden the bike for more than a week and it was fine yesterday, whipped the tyre off and sure enough a pin prick hole, must have happened on the way to London the other week, odd it's taken 11 days to go flat.

Cleaned out all the flints and shards and fitted a new tube.
