Re jiggled my shiny new brakes after a test pootle.
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.

Put my normal Mavic wheels back on the MTB and clean the rust off the chain

Jeez what a difference a pair of light wheels with speedking tyres makes, popped my first proper wheelie

In other news the frost this morning didn't go until 11:30 so I suspect this fettle will be very short lived.

  • Kinda bike related...fixed the garage door today. It 'exploded' last week when a bracket broke and sent the spring flying into the ceiling causing a big hole and breaking the spring in the process.

2 new pulleys and a new spring fitted and all oiled up, it opens like a dream now. I thought bike bits were expensive but £100 for a spring and 2 brackets, friggin rip-off.

Fitted a new front mech to my MTB yesterday after the old one rotted itself solid after being left for a week at the end of last year covered in salt and grit. Ended up riding it into work this morning - disappointingly slow after using the Tricross for 2 weeks but I kind of figure it's good training...?!

Fitted a new chain to the Cervelo.

I wasn't planning on doing this, but since the belt snapped on the Civia this morning and I had to walk 7 miles home, I didn't really have a choice.

    Sigh.

Wait! What now? Belt-dives aren't the glittering panacea of maintenance-free cycling after all? :o

Actually I think it was maintenance that killed it.

I let the 'Bike Doctor' at work service it and looking at the tensioner this morning I think they have put WAAAAAY too much on. I didn't check, I jsut trusted them to know what they were doing.

Ah, there's the problem - never let another man fiddle with your bike :P

I lent a bike to a mate for a weekend once. When he gave it back he excitedly said "I've given it a service for you". I spent half a day actually giving it a service...

just changed the front tyre from semi-knobbly to smooth (gatorskin) only to discover that the front wheel bearings are a bit too lumpy for my liking; sense a hub service taking place at the weekend!

Just changed the front brake cable + outer, for one from Wilkinsons. Either the quality is better than it has any right being for the price, or my cables truly are farked. Either way, I shall now enjoy renewed braking vigour.

Pulled the rear wheel back on the SS 1/2". Been meaning to do it for a few days now
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

90% of a complete new winter bike build, old Ribble frame and second hand Campag Mirage groupset. Going fine so far, but it's always the last 10% that causes problems :D

Left crank was making a nasty clicking sound a tthe bottom of each revolution. Got home and checked it out, the bolt holding the cranks in was so loose I could move it with my fingers

All tightened up and funily enough the noise has now gone :)

Complete strip down and rebuild of winter\commuter bike. Cables replaced, all bearings cleaned and greased and a thorough clean.

I've had to order a new set of calipers due to the rear loosing it's tension in the spring which is odd.

I just had that, is it a V-Brake?

Problem on mine was that the bit where spring adjuster screw is was seized up with the caliper. A clean out, some lubricant and lots of wiggling back and forth and the freed up. When I put it back lots of springyness.

Overdid it and had to slacken the chain 1/2 a turn of the chain tugs. Repaired the snapped CCRRmk2, no more spare sections anymore though I do have hundreds of stays and a few extensions.

  • In an attempt to help with the hand pain just fitted some FSA compact bars, shorter stem, Cane Creek SSR-5C brake levers, and for good measure some Bontrager gel pads under the new Bontrager gel bar tape.

  • Complete strip down of orange pro, meticulously cleaned every component- just 3 years too late. Discovered i ordered the wrong pads needed mono minis not just monos.
Next step a good polish and then wax
Very satisfying indeed- just need to put it all back together!

Very confusing tyre swapping session, swapped contis for schwalbes on the MTB, now i'm used to running 65psi on the MTB

I know WTF anyway after putting 25 psi in the schwalbes those babies were rock hard, er how is that?

    Does not compute

Stiffer hmmm dont think so they're pretty thin and folding, I used two track pumps and my tyre pressure gauge.

It would appear to have done the trick, sooo much more comfy now, Bristol to Botton & back, zero pain, whereas previoulsy I'd have had aching thubs.

Put a blingy gold KMC chain along with a new chainring and SS sprocket on the Tricross and fettled the gears on the Allez which isn't suprising as the last ride was in the snow 6 weeks ago.

cleaned mtb then stripped my CX down to the frame, removed the BB only to discover that the bearings are stiff and crunchy, hmmm new sealed bearings needed me thinks.

Other than that the BB looks like new, not bad for over a year of wet and muddy use.

removed cassette and cleaned it to see whether I'd get another chain out of it, new chain fitted, general clean, new wheel hub bearings
