Fitted cleats to my new shoes and it's taken 3 fettles to get the position right on the LH shoe, the RH was spot on first time.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Removed cassette, separated the sprockets, degreased and reassembled.
Removed chain, cleaned, degreased and reassembled.
Removed chainrings, cleaned, degreased and reassembled.
Removed jockey wheels, cleaned, degreased, regreased and reassembled.
    Chain lubed.

Bike now has a shiny drivetrain and purrs like a kitten .

Well almost. Still got a creaky headset even though I got my LBS to replace it and its now got play in it, so its back to the LBS to get that sorted (again).

On Sunday in a near coma I replaced my chain on the pista... I found out that a 96link chain is too small luckily I had a few random links lying around combining those with 3 powerlinks I managed to get it to work... feeling quite pleased with myself.

Later it dawned on me I could have taken some off the other chain I'd bought at the same time which is also 96L and I'm going to have the same issue with in due course (and I'd used the powerlink from that too... oh well.

As a matter of interest how easy is it to remove those? I've got one black link in the chain and I'd like to sort it out #notracist

I put on my Crud Roadracer II: The Wrath of Khan last night, and in terms of fiddlyness it's only just behind attaching a Cateye computer. Still, they work and there's no rubbing, and I like the new drivetrain protection. On the other hand, if they can add a bit of plastic there, why can't they make the bottom of the front guard wider to prevent foot soakage?

Funny...I put on a set of Crud Roadracer Mk. II's on last night too - getting that drivetrain protection piece on is a bugger isn't it?!

Of course, despite the forecasts, I knew that doing that would guarantee clear skies, sunshine and dry roads; which of course was the sight greeting me this morning as I looked out of the window!

On Tuesday my front mech stopped working leaving me on the big ring, so yesterday morning I hit it with a hammer.

    Works perfectly now.

Over the course of the last week I've stripped the HTII BB down and re-assembled and tightened the chainring bolts on my Allez in the vain hope of ridding myself of a creaking noise that I thought was coming from the LH crank. The chainring bolt thing seems to have worked, no noise since doing it on thursday night.
Today I fitted mudguards, adjusted the brakes and done a general fettle on a mates bike.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
  • This weekend, I've removed the 34t inner chainring and replaced with the 39t. I'll keep this on for the winter and put the 34t back on when I need to get the legs spinning again for the summer MTB races. Also fitted the Acor lightbar as the morning's are getting a bit gloomy.

Took the brakes off the Tricross in preparation for the new ones coming hopefully this week including unrolling the bar tape, will be fitting lights and brackets to the bike for winter use when the Allez is put into hibernation for the winter.

Broke out into new territory last night by stripping down and rebuilding an old freehub from a MTB wheel. Taking apart was no problem and I didn't lose any of the bearings, but reassembly took a bit of patience....
  • Replaced the brake pads and de-stickered the rims (sticker coatings were starting to come off anyway).

Fitted new 'winter' wheels to the carbon Ribble just in time to wrap it up for winter, also noticed that I'd neglected to tighten the stem bolts after my Alps clean up.

Fitted a new Campag 10 speed medium rear mech to the CX, re-indexed badly!

Swapped tyres from the Trek to Carbon

Re-cabled the rear brake outer on the FGSS and adjusted the brake pads, actually a very nice bike now, changed front tyre to match rear.

Swapped bottle cages on the Trek & CX

Fitted front mud guard to the Ribble winter, changed front brake pads & blocks for cartridge units.

Had a little tidy of the garage.

  • Today the BeOne is a machine transformed. At the weekend, I replaced the sticky old bottom bracket with a free-running new one - at once the bike felt lighter and faster. Last night, the postie had finally got his arse in gear and delivered the new cassette required so I could finally fit the lovely Pro-Lite Bracciano wheelset which has been taunting me from the garage...

This morning the BeOne feels amazing, the speed of acceleration is phenomenal, it feels so nimble when turning and even the straight-line speed seems vastly improved. I am one happy elephant. :D
  • Finally cracked the creaking sound that I thought was coming from the rh crank on the fixie. Turned out to be the rh bolt on drop out, removed, replaced with a bit of copper grease and some threadlock and all is quiet.mmmmmmmm

  • Dug out my hiking and camping repair kit and patched my new season's waterproof overshoes that picked up 2 holes on the first use thanks to the cleat pushing the shoe too close to the crank and a small rubspot developing. I was going for the Obree "1 banana apart" approach, but I've had to add an extra half banana to stop the rub.

Last night I cleaned the bike then decided to replace the rear brake pads as I was effectively riding with just front brakes  . Remembered why it would have been better to get my LBS to do them instead, so PT today  and bike shop tonight.

Next time I'll replace the whole flaming unit .

    This morning:

    - replaced three of the four brake pads (the fourth spare is somewhere, but no idea where)
    - changed wheels, tyres on new wheels;
    - cleaned and re-inserted the front brake cable after something "popped" last night in the shifter housing in a desperate attempt to brake. Dug around inside the housing to find the spare white washer-type thingy which fits on the end of the cable barrel thingy, which had been in there presumably since the last one popped last winter. Also in a desperate attempt to brake.

Discovered on the way in that my freehub body on the rear wheel I'm now using is on its way out - the legs are spinning, but the bike isn't moving forward. A new freehub body needed, me thinks. Going to try to do a temporary fix this afternoon.

 I'm going to get a new freehub body. Did it to my CXP33s after riding in the snow last winter. Pesky Shimano hubs.

Did a full chain clean (kept it on the bike) using some good degreaser. This time dried the chain properly and oiled it quickly so that overnight no surface rust appeared. The journey in was much quieter and slightly easier as everything felt smooth and almost new.

Also did a full wash of the frame rather than the usual baby wipe trick.

Having a lazy morning which means I'll be speeding round the shops shortly  , I decided to give Babygirl (bike) a once-over as I've not really taken care of her properly these past two months or so.

Found a few loose bits, duly tightened  . Adjusted the front brake levers so they are 'tight' and moved the brake levers on the handlebars downwards a tad more for comfort. Hadn't realised the screws on the mudguards were loose either so they were duly tightened too. Put air in the tyres and now need to clean the chain, but I'll do that tomorrow after my trip to SE London.

Lesson: weekly and monthly maintenance checks are a good idea - reinstate them!

Buying a torque wrench seems like a good idea too.
