    TTT Carnage!
Menchov's reputation as a less-than excellent bike handler confirmed, BB's all for one a real cock-up.
Might realy throw a cat amongst the pigeons if one of the contenders bails it on a bend.

ASO is gonna take some stick over this route.

I wonder from who in particular?

Everyone! This time it might be justified though.

Here come Silence-Lotto. Evans must be crapping himself.

    Oh dear!

Why can't these guys corner properly?

I'm down the pub watching it and the group at the other table are playing a drinking game - downing a drink for every crash/mechanical problem. They seem to be getting pretty drunk already!

That would be unfair. The route has been know for a long time, if the riders are getting the speed wrong then they should look at their bike handling skills and ask whether they visited the course several times.

Fair enough, but that won't stop people complaining. Some of the roads do look very narrow, there is lots of road furniture, and according to the Eurosport commentators the roads are in poor condition with stinkin' big potholes.

Another big crash for Lotto... although that looked to be self-inflicted. Van den Broecke... one of Evans big helpers... not good.

If I was a DS for one of the later starting teams I think I'd be turning off all the TVs in the immediate vicinity right about now.

When the Tour started most of the roads weren't even surfaced properly, I don't think they can complain. It's not the ASO's fault the riders are overcooking the corners.
This is fantastic though, I've got a few days off this week and thought it wouldn't be worth watching the first stages, but it's turning out to be really interesting!

What is the likelihood that someone will be eliminated on time today?

Exactly. I've always wondered how often these riders train on crappy roads...? Maybe they're too used to riding on smooth ones.

Those roads look immaculate compared to what I have here in Manchester!

it's all about you isn't it?

I think it's more to do with riders who don't train on TT bike + highly technical course = televisual gold!

The course is quite clever, some hills at the front end and then the back is flat. So we're seeing some teams drop their rouleurs on the hill, leaving the rest to flounder on the flat and fast section back into Montpellier.

For example Lotto have just dropped "Big" Johan Van Summeren* but they are waiting for him on the descent, losing time by waiting but they need him.

I'm really surprised by some of the poor organisation from the teams, they clearly didn't plan this stage very well.

Jo Van Sum off the back with a puncture. Lotto down to 6 already. What a mare!

Now is the lone Kazakh's chance to create chaos!

The cut off is 25% - so about 11 minutes or thereabouts. Possible, but I'd say unlikely.

What's the deal with Agritubel and their helmets?

Is that their dedication to Michael Jackson?

I reckon Cadel will lose 3.5 minutes today.

Once again it looks like Cadel's hopes will be dashed thanks to a less than ideal team

I reckon Cadel could drop his team, finish, have a shower and come back and watch the 5th rider cross the line.

The stage is all about the team working well together, it's not about having the six foot guys who can turn 180mm cranks and 55T chainrings. Chapeau ASO.

Note that Silence-Lotto spent a day training on the Zolder motor racing circuit. So a big, wide and flat place, ideal practice for a twisty, hilly course, no?

Euskaltel up next. That should be fun!

His tour is over before its hardly started - he's screwed now. Its going to take a monumental and special effort to get back this time over the next few weeks. He'll have to do something he hasn't managed in the last 2 TdFs and that is to ride away from the wheels of the other main contenders in the mountains. Very unlikely.
