If I had started building a custom P7 in june 2009, I would already have ridden the hell out of it, sold it and built a new bike... And that's what I did too... roll:
  • Looking good!

Keep up the good work, can't wait to see it finished!

    Thanks Cat, cant wait myself.

Thats all for now, only forks left and then I'm done, huhzaaar :D
  • Niiiiice!

No plans to convert that rear hub to 10mm bolt through then? (I *think* the ProII can be converted cant it?)

Are you saving for the forks or just waiting to find some you like?

And have you already got everything fitted to the frame ready to go?

Oh, and do you find youself constantly looking at all the new shiny bits and getting excited like a little kid at christmas?

Looked at 10mm B/T but not sure frame could take it & Orange never replied to my email so just went 9mm QR (is 10mm much better, is it worth it over 9mm QR?) & yeah the Pro 2s can be converted

Yeah, saving for forks, got £200 already, the rest is coming soon(ish).

Nothing on frame yet due to space but I am seriously considering getting the frame prepared soon and then start bolting it all together (stuff the space)

And yes, its like a kid in a sweet shop with all the shiney bits, lol, but its murder at the same time as I just want to get out and ride, but its been worth the effort and wait as I'll have the bike that I've always wanted very soon and it'll be unique to me :D
  • Personally, I can tell the difference since switching to 10mm, but then I'm a fatty, and clumbsy to boot.
And afaik, any bike with standard dropouts can use 10mm through axles (obviously depending on the hub).

If the hub conversion kits are cheap enough, it might be worth buying one, with a 10mm QR through axle from Superstar (I say superstar as their axles are only £8 and they come in colours to match  ). If you give it a try and dont like it, it's £10 wasted.

Put that way it seems like a plan, I too am a fatty, or is it pleasantly plump

I'll have a look at the options now. Side tracking Cat, do you still have the white Goodridge gear cable outers? :D

Nah, got the XTR inners just looking at getting the Goodridge White cable kit but as before I'd need some extra length outers.

Was it bang on 2 metres you had? and are the ends cut cleanly? I may just have them off you soon (just looking at the 10mm B/T).

There seems to be 2 types of the 10mm, one is bolt through and the other is bolt up, the latter seems just to be 2 small bolts one on each side, which doesnt seem alot? Still looking at them though.

You are an expensive man to be around Mr Cat

Thanks Jay, got the wheels done by Merlin in the end, as they could build up the wheels with the Steel freehub instead of the aluminium.

I'm actually now looking for the same forks as BigBenj_08 the Rev Race but they cant be bought in the UK any longer in the guise that I want them, otherwise I could finish my bike alot quicker, but it seems that I am going to have to get the Rev Teams with the Black Box moco, pity eh! :D

    all right.
yeah what a pity,i bet your gutted
  • I'll have to measure again tonight as I cant remember the lengths now. IIRC it was about 2.7m. Ends are clean.

I dont know which is which, but 1 of them screws into the dropouts (meaning you need special dropouts and a frame that takes replaceable dropouts, my old commie had this system).
The other is just a bolt that you slide through the existing "normal" dropouts on your frame and tighten.

It's the latter I'm referring to, and it works rather well. You have a few options for making the bolts tight. Some do just use 2 nuts ( ) which you'd tighten using a spanner. DT Swiss use their RWS (ratchet wheel system) which is what my EX1750s came with and works well, but is a bit too pricey if I'm honest.
The Superstar ones work like a normal QR afaik, you just tighten the lever up and pull it over.

I'm tempted to buy you the forks myself just so we can finally see something on 'ere that resembles anything you can pedal that takes you in a forward motion!

P.S. I am joking so no pm'ing me for my credit card details.

    Nice wheels btw. :D

as luuurvely as it is, the P7 frame is all name and no go. it may be nice to look at and be an orange, but the 456 is lighter, stronger, and IMO has better geo. oh, and 1/3 of the price!

but this project is super lovely, i must admit. now FINISH IT!!!!!

Hee hee, what are you like

I must admit that I did originally look at the 456 frame, and there is no denying that its a good price, but, IMO the Orange frame is a superb bit of kit, its better made than the 456 and has consitantly got loads of positive feedback from riders & magazines.

All things are subjective though, like price, weight etc...... but for me the frame is the right one, and at the end of the day thats all we can ask of our kit, is it the right one for me?

and PS....I can't wait to get out and ride the thing (donations welcome)

oh and Josh, did you get any pics up of your Magura's?

    Welcome back matey :D

Thanks dude, it should be once its finished.

PS, whats your take on the fork front, white Revs air or Black Pikes coil? Cheers :D
  • Pike (with uprated spring) .

Seriously though, depends what you're after. The Pike is Buttery smooth through the entire length of travel but there is a weight penalty over the revs. I'm not too fussed about weight, and that's why I went for the Pikes.

BTW, checked that Goodridge outer, it's just over 2.4m if you still want it.

Yeah, the pikes for plushy goodness are what I'm currently leaning towards, I think its the tart in me thats saying "Revs, get the Revs"

Thanks for checking the cable outers, I'll take it off you, I'll send you a PM in a mo :D

(Just double checking, we did confirm its the Goodridge didn't we and not another brand? Thanks :) )
  • Yes, it's the goodridge one. Wasnt sure until the other day when I noticed the Alligator ones have "alligator" written on them

I was the same with the forks, kept going back to the revs, it was the Team Air U-turn Maxle ones I was looking at though. In the end, I decided they were not worth the extra £150 over the Pikes for what I'll use them for. So I put the extra money into the wheels instead.
  • I think also, that one of my dilemmas is, is I can get the Black Box Team Rev Dual Air for £525 from TF Tuned and they will open it up, change the travel to my needed 140mm, inspect the forks internally to make sure its all ok and then correct the oil levels in the forks and postage to me all included in the price,

whereas the pike is £425 + £40ish for the correct spring, so £465 (again the spring will be changed FOC) so its only £60 difference, which is harder to ignore than if it was £150!

Still got some research and thinking to do, and again as I posted in your thread, I'd love to know what the different spring is like for you when you change yours :D

I must agree. For the extra £60 and with the TFT attention it is quite tempting.

Don't forget the cost of posting the forks to TFT! That will add a good £5-£10 on the price aswell.

    (Incase you couldn't tell, I'm team Rev's!)

Thanks dot1, the forks will be bought directly from TF Tuned so no postage needed, they order them in, do the work and then post them to me for the prices quoted :D

So, its now looking like most opinions are with the Team Revs.
