As far as I'm aware it's booked so it's certainly "on", just think that as it slipped from the front page people forgot!

Jen, I'm still on, and happy to be your lift in both directions if you too have to come back the Sunday night.

Is this still on, or has the enthusiasm died in the heat?

It is most certainly on, I've booked the bunkhouse so if people don't turn up I'll be left with a rather substantial bill to pay!

+1 I've never understood why some people want to laze around on a holiday, I'd much rather be dragging my ar$3 up some hill in the Breacons then getting burned on a beach in Spain :-D

I think I can still come - dependant on which stage I am at with the hacking about of my spine.....

    dependent, dependant - noun, adjective?

    <goes off to online dictionary>

    yup, dependant.....

I digress. Anyway, I am planning to come, though may be largely doing "waiting around for you lot to come back and sicken me with your tales of hacking up hills" duties :?

Be nice to see you all anyway :D

Talking to CJ about ideas for a possible trip next year and one of the things we thought would be cool would be to have a crack at some SCR members joining LeClub des Cinglés du Mont-Ventoux. Its pretty easy to join: all you need to do is climb to the summit of Mont Ventoux three times in one day, once by each of its three access roads, et voila - your name in lights. 8) We liked this idea. 8) Well CJ liked it - I thought about how good the beer in Bedoin would taste afterwards

We did forsee a problem though - how to do this in a long weekend. However, as if by magic, the following day whilst leafing through The Observer, there was an artcile about doing L'Etape ( this year its Montelimar - Ventoux) over a long weekend. £125 return from Waterloo to Orange / Montelimar. Just need to sort out some cheap accomodation and a good time to go and it could be an option.

The article's in the travel supplement or possibly online. Another option would be to do the route of the Etape, but getting stuff from Montelimar to say Orange would need to be looked at. Anyhow - at this stage we need to look at whether there would be any interest or not. So, anyone up for this - and if so when?

:D Count me in, subject to approval from The Boss*. I reckon I can get away with one foreign trip next year, so it's either an Alpine sportive or this.

A mate has just done the Cingles, and it was 40 degrees C at one point. Do-able if you take it nice and steady. However, 40 degrees is 40 degrees.

Sooooooooooooo, this reinforces my view that early summer or late August/early September might be the best time if you're not partial to those silly temperatures.

*I'm biding my time on when to broach this subject.

    ooohhhhh, count me in :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

it can't be done without the resident border collie, and my back might actually be back in one piece by then

Seriously it's one of my great ambitions to climb Ventoux, and three times in a day

Hope you guys have an ace time with this. (dead jealous), but I can't get the time off, nor do I have the money for it (and that's not even counting what the missus would say about it  ).

Maybe next time, and I may be able to get her to come too, she'll be on a hybrid, but it's an improvement over her steel shopper that weighs the same as a car.

Some lads from the Beeston Club have just done this http://beeston.cc/category/club-trip-to-ventoux/ it does sound fun. You could even go for the Galerian i.e. totally nuts 4 ascents in one day one of which is dirt track!

I have no idea if I could get the time to do it but would love to one day. I am super lucky that my good lady has said I can bring the bike on the honeymoon as long as I am back by midday from my ride. This means I can go and do the Sella Ronda mmmmm 40 miles with 8,800ft of ascent over 4 cols in the Dolomites :D We are also staying in a hotel near the chapel of the patron saint of cycling on Lake Como!

Sounds great, but I doubt I'd make it up the hills!

Going back to the one that's a tad more imminent, is anyone else coming along?

I may be up for this years one... but a. better meet some of your first... and b. get a bike with gears (otherwise it may end up as a lot of walking up hills).

Probably gonna have to just make a last minute decision if there's a free spot.

    Game. On.

Just received clearance from The Boss.

    :D

I have not yet specified whether it's Ventoux or the Marmotte or something else Alpine-y.

IP, this is definitely the weekend before the Bank Holiday, the 21st to the 26th-ish, isn't it?

Or have I got that wrong and it's the Bank Holiday weekend?

Can attend either way, just looking to work out my plans!

Yep: 4 nights (the 21 to the 25 August).

    Fab, thaaaanks!

And I'll be driving up, in my giant car, leaving west london at a flexible hour due to unemployment!

I don't have a bike rack, but can fit 1 more bike + 1 person + related luggage in the car with me. Possibly space for 2 more bikes, but never tried it with all the padding required for nice bikes!

If I can be convinced that my baby, erm, bike won't be injured on a rack, then I'd (hypothetically) have space for 4 more people, their luggage, and however many bikes the rack will safely hold.

I may, however, take some convincing on the rack.

Message me for a lift! First come first served!
