    Jon,
First night's Friday 21st. Then Saturday, Sunday, Monday...and off home Tuesday morning.
At least, I think that's the plan!

    Whoops...Just a typo :)
Definitely the 21st I booked for, and that's Friday. Apologies for any confusion!

Such discussions are open to attendees only. Those who didn't MTFU and confirm are politely asked to keep their beaks out of it.

+1 to the relaxed approach to food etc, everyone grab yourselves some breakfast supplies, we'll be eating out in the daytime and can either pub dinner/takeaway (if there are any) or do pasta/roast/something good'n'carby for dinner.

I think you've all noted my lax attitude to bike cleaning, and I will certainly be bringing kit enough to avoid doing any laundry while away.
  • On the off chance, and since i'm in the area doing DIY to the house. so i took pics.

One wanted hills to beat, how about this. http://www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?id=14449

Gospel Pass, Blorange, and up from Llangattock all 3 to 4 miles with a least 1000ft to climb.

and because i'm nasty looped though the cuckoo, only half a mile or so, but gives a average grade of around the 20% mark so the ramps are more, doable but really rather steep. 3789056463_77145f83e1.jpg

thats one of the shallow bits....

 Jaysus! That looks like a challenge to say the least, the worst bit is I'm not sure I'd have problem pushing my bike up that if it's damp with my SPD shoes on! Just in case my legs and/or kneecaps should fail part way up!! Still I have the "emergency" gear if all else fails and would just have to grind it out in that!

All that whilst JG sprints up in the 52*16........

  • yup it is the hill i measure all others by! It is doable but hard work I suspect your a better climber than I so if i can i'm sure you can.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/8766162@N04/sets/72157621821288437/ is the set i made of the hill or rather the one half i walked down while having a walk, then back up though the beach woods. nice walk i got my feet wet and risked life and limb crossing the stream in flood. all is good.

Thanks Roger. Is that route as good in reverse? I'd rather climb Gospel from the other side then enjoy the descent into Hay.

    I don't think I'd enjoy a 20% descent in a built up area

+1. Cuckoo looks like 'get off and push' to me. And I don't fancy pranging my new Viner thank you very much!

It's the worrying amount of dampness on the road that worries me, however after that descent on the Marlborough Loop where I couldn't feel my hands in the howling wind and rain I think this should be a piece of cake provided we have sunny weather :-D

Just need to make sure I bring a spare set of brake blocks with me...

The biggest descent I've ever done (Hay Tor down to Bovey Tracey) was in the wet and it scared the bejesus out of me, not to mention making my hands ache for days! No fun at all.

Steady on. I'll be on one of the carbon bikes so it'll be 50 at the front ;)

Just a thought, but this is Wales, we're almost guaranteed at least one day of rain, if it's too bad I for one will MTFD. I'm thinking of taking walking gear with me in order to do "other stuff"

I was thinking of you guys when struggling up an 18% hill on Sunday and realised that there is no way on Gods green Earth i could hope to match some of you Mountain Goats on wheels.

That one short hill had me huffing like a Steam train and going almost backwards - the longer one on the way back near enough killed me.

I'd take one look at that hill in the photo and go look for something with an engine it!

i'd not really recoment it, the cuckoo isn't wildy fun going down as it's so steep your on the brakes most of the time etc and sight lines aren't great.

if you want decents then this should be a blast, http://www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?id=14634

the other way around but taking in the hills down, and avoiding the heads of valleys etc.

do get the odd car failing to make it! worse was a coach that got lost and went down, luckly there is hairpin bend in the middle (and house) to stop the coach......

you do get used to steep hills i've driven down that hill in snow and ice before now.
