Reminder for any other N Londoners, although at the moment it looks like it's just me and _Brun_._Brun_ wrote:If any other 'Northerners' still want to meet in Regent's Park Sat morning, I've painstakingly planned a route though Hyde Park and the back streets, hopefully avoiding as much crap as possible. Particularly Hammersmith gyratory.
Route
Shouldn't take more than 45 min, but I'd suggest meeting at 11 (top of The Broad Walk off the Outer Circle) to be on the safe side. If we get there early it should be possible to sneak in a quick warm up lap.0 -
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnd he's back in the game....
Can't mae the ride, but will see you guys and gals at the Roebuck for a couple of pints.FCN 2-4.

Just a quick q for those locals, I spotted Nightingale Lane opposite the pub........isn't that one of the evil "hills" that is spoken out in hushed tones by some? Short n sharp I think so might be worth a visit to stretch the legs0

It is indeed. Kicks up to about 18%. Get into the 39 before the bottom and use the sprockets. At the top, you're almost outside the Roebuck.FCN 2-4.

A quick last minute plea for help.
Has anybody got a spare scoop for energy drink powder? Doesn't matter which drink it's from just need one so that I can have the same dose when I choose to add the stuff to my bottle.
Bring it with you and you can have my scalp in the park today
TIAI've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -
Will be on my way to the station shortly, should be at Clapham Junction 11.05 & RP...well, before noon if I don't take a 'creative interpretation' of the route. You should see the jersey a mile off....Dahon Speed Pro TT; Trek Portland

yup, nice little snap, not devilishly steep but worth a look, i tend to just sit in in low (chainring) and just pedal up don't tend to stand. its as you've noted next to the roebuck though one way so you should loop around.0 -

Uh-oh. No scoop. Only a coffee scoop (far more use in my house...). I'll bring that in case no one else sees this and doesn't bring a scoop.FCN 2-4.

LiT - thanks very much for herding the proverbial bunch of cats and getting today sorted. Had a great time.
Very nice to put more faces to names, like StuAff, Dunce-dunce and Ian B. GTV & Redvee - didn't get to say howdy before headed off west again.
ITB - I don't know what you did in a previous life to deserve another p*ncture, but you may have seriously bad karma.
Afternoon drinking - you gotta love it. 8)FCN 2-4.

Most of wot they said
Had a good time today. Thankfully I'd hidden my hybrid from the mass of racers that made up the SCR crew, up until the end when I had to bring it forth so I could ride home 8)
Great to put names to faces, although the jump from forum to real names confused the hell out of me. Clearly I'll have to socialise with you guys again
As for ITB, all I can say is the PF has got the serious hots for you. Three in how many hours?  Hopefully you were fine for the homeward journey :praying:
I did take some pics of the whole group but I'll only put them up if nobody objects. Update: Now showing on Facebook as I had technological help from a young'un.
End result for me: My cold returned in full once I got home. I missed the rain and I'm rethinking my next bike acquisition (again  )0 -
Echo what others have said, thanks to LIT for the organisation.
Nice to put names to faces, although I am so cr*p at names, I will never be able to tell who is who.
Good afternoon in the sun and wind, and as predicted as soon as I left, the rain."Bed is for sleepy people.

Hit 35mph going back to the cafe/car and tried to pedal at 33mph but did generate some momentum when overtaking a few cars which meant my tired legs were going round in circles at 160 rpm
Thanks to LiT for getting things together for the ride. Didn't realise you had such an area so close to the centre of London. The only downside of riding the roads of the park were the cars sticking to 20mph on the downhills when we wanted to hit nearer 30.
Thanks to GTV for letting me sit in the front of the car and not on the roof in the aerotuck position at 70mph on the M4.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -
Cracking day with lovely people, quite a few of whom I might actually remember.... liked the road route round the park (bloody hilly bits and the headwind nothwithstanding), but the off-road was more fun. Particularly as everyone else didn't go steaming off into the distance within 5 minutes.....I thought the 'fun ride' bit would be overtaken by those competitive instincts and I was proven right! I was tail end Charlie...and it was me, not the bike. OK, it's a whole eleven kilos, fairly upright (don't start about small wheels, that's a benefit, honest)..but give me a sub-five kilo Storck and I'd still be slow. Nice Fascenario on eBay right now, I don't have £5k under the mattress sadly.....Great exercise, in any case.
Anyway, those who didn't go on the off-road route missed a treat. Not to mention the sight of a Cayo and an Italian superbike going cyclocross on 23mm road tyres and making it look easy....(gravel is nothing when you have 40mm ones and a rear shock!).
Nice one Olivia for coming up with the idea in the first place....only question should be when are we doing this again? Might I suggest (again) the Isle of Wight? A nice little outing for those from That London, handily located for the South Hampshire section (well, me and Lindsey!) within easy reach of their local ferry ports, and interesting scenery with challenging-but-not-too-steep hills. Though that seems to be a swear word to some....Dahon Speed Pro TT; Trek Portland

Glad it went well - hopefully i'll be at the next one.
In the end my aching legs and back - and sleep deprivation got the better of me. I managed to get out of bed soon after noon and to the bike shop a little after 3.00. :oops:0 -
good fun, and very local. nice to put faces to usernames, I was a about a hour late to the park and caught the group coming up sawyers hill though i had seen them going down broomfield.0
