Ok, so while you all regroup and square up fro round 9, here's something for the intermission.

WITHOUT USING THE INTERWEB who knows

    (a) what the usual story is for the origin of the word "posh"
    (b) whether it is true or false.

15 minutes before the sound of bottles being thrown at bars, chairs being smashed over people, and people toppling off balconies after having been hit with big roundhouse punches resumes, please.

It comes, supposedly, from cruise travel - port out, starboard home.

It fell out of favour after the Titanic went down, as it was considered in poor taste to refer to the "sh" part, and equally poor taste to refer to the upper classes as "poo".

Some or all of the foregoing may be false.

Slow, slow, slow. No prizes for second place (aka first loser).

Does the interweb take longer to get to the Highlands? Is that your excuse?

    Ok, here's another one.

Personally, I'm a champagne socialist. I'm privileged enough to be able to afford to see the good in left-wing policies without actually harming my own personal standing too dramatically. Some may call this hypocritical. But frankly, they can go stick their precious copies of the Daily Mail up their tight tory arseholes, because if this IS the way I feel (and it's certainly not some political points scoring) then great! It works!

I also believe that young people SHOULD be socialists, because they are the ones who will bring in the next generations of social policy both in government and society. Also, the young seldom have much to lose, seldom have deeply ingrained opinions, seldom have a huge amount of experience, and since socialism is essentially the idealistic way to live, then damn right I want young people to be social idealists, rather than selfish, pessimistic nimbys who only look out for number one.

Nope you got it in one. Though in this context I guess doing so (looking down on someone) sounds like fun

Just don't try and look down at me... I know you want to..

Doesn't the answer to G66's question depend on what you class as a "very" rude word?
Having said this my wife and I where discussing swear words the other day and she asked which is the worse and I did reply with that one.........
As she pointed out that it is *just* a word, like any other word that has been branded by society as bad.....

Besides that one isn't even funny, we have Pratts Bottom and Badgers Mount near me :-)

I'm not even going to get started on the humor debate, Chris Rock is funny (for me) whear as some of the clips I've seen of Robby Chubby Brown just seem as if he's going out of his way to be offensive which isn't funny........

What an odd mistake, confusing new labour with socialist. And ignoring the vast amount of social improvements they've brought in. But you wouldn't expect a tory to notice what happens to other people, unless they're immigrants in £5m council flats obv :)

IMO Chris Rock is a pale imitation of the legend that was Richard Pryor :P

His impression of a Chinese man with a stutter was brilliantly funny, but would be too un-pc these days.

Hence the socialist in quotes. And depends whether you think you think the present incumbents of the front bench are "new labour", or even "socialist", or just "a bit cr@ap all round". Doesn't mean I'm a Tory either. :)

    Fixed that for you.

Have to admit, I went through a few adjectives before "cr@ap" before settling on that one. Sort of escalation of anger...

They're neither "nu labor" nor "socialist" just incompetent, meddling profligates that should be hounded of office ASAP. Not sure the next lot will do any better, but I am so tired of Brown era hypocrisy.

Comedy-wise... Last year I saw Eddie Izzard, Bill Bailey and Dara O'Briain... I have to say Dara was the absolute best of them all, laughed so much it hurt.

I'd love to see Dylan Moran too...

Never found Chris Rock that funny.

Oh and I think cr@p is too mild for the current bunch of numpties... to steal a rather rude joke from someone or other... an empire has an emperor, a kingdom has a king. We're a country.

The Government Front Bench isn't crap.

It's a completely competent set of junior to middle managers who could run a moderately sized shop of some sort without too much trouble.

    Apart from Jaqui Smith.

    She's crap.

Just ask her husband, if he doesn't pick up the phone - well - you'll know why.

My Uncle, a self -proclaimed socialist, would argue that there is virtually no difference between both the current Labour or Conservative party and that they are both crap.

    Funny story:

In my deluded youth and not really having an understanding on this I once voted Tory, I feel sick just typing it... If i had a time machine I would go back in time to that moment and punch myself in the face... Whoa!!! I've just got a scar under my left eye I've never noticed before...

And no, I would never ever vote Labour having experienced this era, unless of course they got a black guy in as party leader then I'm flying the Flag! - but only if he was a real 'brotha' and not some token sell-out yes man. Though it'll never happen, if it ever did probably would happen with Labour before the Tories but more likely Lib Dem first...
