Think of a smelly train and tube with people coughing and blowing their noses and, all of a sudden, the mileage doesn't seem so bad.FCN 2-4.

I'm only 3miles from work, but currently clocking up 30miles a day. Handy having Regents Park just next to my office0 -

I just ponder diesel at £5.13 a gallon and think 'free trip to work?'. Plus a short-term climb up the Stat table usually swings it.WGWarburton wrote:CiB wrote:Sorry -null-. I assume girls have girl's names, like ... Buns etc. ...

No. I had you down as a top cycling woman. Ho hum... Were you in The Crying Game then? No? <shuffles off aimlessly...>
Next thing you'll be telling me Porgy is a bloke as well. As if.0 -

I assume you ride around it?
I have to cycle round Holborn if I want to clock up some extra miles during the day - I was based at Baker Street a year ago - and beginning to miss Regents Park.0 -

It's far worse than that. The Garmin will presumably be able to infer everyone else's current speed too, so we'll be able to see whether someones catching us. We won't merely be glued to our saddles, we'll also be going flat-out for the entire time, in a sort of nationwide virtual SCR...Pannier, 120rpm.0 -
The winter weather and my slack maintenance programme means my commuting bike needs a major overhaul, the cost of parts means I'd be better off replacing it, ideally with a single speed. In the meantime do I drive and slip down the table or use my CR1 which I'm loathe to do. Dilemma
I destroyed the bottom bracket of my CR1 with too much winter riding (I had to have the cups re-bonded to the carbon frame over the New Year - handy as it would have meant a new frame if they were unable to do so). This left me without a road bike for the commute so I bought a Reynolds 501 off eBay for around £70. What a great purchase!!! I've done all of my 700+ miles on it so far this year, I run it in the same gear the whole time, only clean it every other week and basically abuse it, saving the CR1 Pro for the warm, dry rides to come...
Needless to say I am now a great fan of the 'Winter Bike' way of thinkingStill breathing.....0 -

1.8 miles is an easy distance - a boy's ride in fact - to get your lunch. You know what has to be done... Have you started going home via some stupid routes just to clock a few more miles up yet? I believe there are some on here who would admit to that. <coughs into sleeve>0 -

If you want to change your username on this forum send a request to the mods - it took about 4 seconds for mine to be swapped to what it is. Don't all ask at once though or they'll be overrun.0 -

Have had to use my CR1 Pro for the last few days as the crosser is out of action atm and I haven't had the energy to use the mtb. Needs a good clean this weekend! Looking at buying a new alu frame soon because the canti brakes on the crosser make an embarrassing racket.FCN 2-4.

Nice day today though so a sweet blast around the lecale peninsula ups me reasonably for the week... reasonably if i get out tomorrow and sunday I mean0

Guilty as charged  Work is less than a mile from the door but yesterday my navigation skills made the 1 mile trip into 7 1/4 and the ride home is 4 1/2. Must learn how to set the route guidance thing up on the Garmin 705.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -
Less than 30miles outside the top 10... hmmmm... *side glances at bike in the corner*0

My entry in the "Miles I would have done if..." department:
I would have done an extra 15.1 miles had the helium cylinder for daughter's birthday balloons been vaguely portable. When will BOC embrace carbon technology for their gas bottles? Thoughtless people - don't they know there's a race on?"Consider the grebe..."0 -
I'm quite happy with the gaps either side of me - feeling quite secure.
Hoping to have an excursion across the water tomorrow - into Essex, via the Dartford tunnel.0 -
Suitable chastised for making excuses I added an extra 5 miles onto the route home, just enough to lift me to 40th.
I'm determined to add a top 30 SCS finish to my palmares this year!0 -
Temporarily up into 2nd place!!! I was on doing quite a few hills this morning and my legs were feeling it but it was knowing that second place was within reach that spurred me on!Still breathing.....0

Just missed getting into the top 10 (damn you Rich!!). Won't be around for long once the crazy weekenders log their silly miles.0
-
No cycling today for me, second day off the bike but my legs are thanking me - I'm feeling decidedly insecure at 30th.
Still, I've done 100 miles this week which isn't bad for me and it is the personal achievement factor that rules above the SCS league, isn't it? :?
I must get up and out tomorrow, only a short one to test my legs out. May do a bit more but want to keep this under wraps in case TheStone and RTA get wind of it._________________________________________________

first ride this week, been too tiered with work and ill. Still thats another 30 miles in the bag. Though rather concerned LIT is putting in big miles may get jumped soon. Hoping i get out on the club run tomorrow should move me up one place no matter how many miles i do.
I'm going to have to start the mid week rides again, cant wait to move office and i can start commuting proper.0 -
75 miles up through the dromara hills and Mourne Mountains.
Feck, I have found the limit of single speeding, not the distance, but those punishing climbs.
I read on STW yesterday someone saying that singlespeeds actually have 3 gears. Sit, Stand and push.
Thankfully I didnt have to resort to 3rd gear, but if anyone on here has ridden up by Spelga Dam, I was DAMN close to it! Still, 8 mile descent was epic and its twice as much fun watching the mileage clock tick over rapidly when freewheeling...
at 39.8mph :shock:0
