I'm slightly confused about the people who's YTD and January columns don't match. If you didn't do the miles in January, just exactly when did you do them?

In my case i didn't join the stats thingy til the 6th Jan (or so, I forget), by which time I'd already done 115 miles. I couldn't be bothered/ couldn't work out how to enter them all individually as different trips so just entered the previous total and now going on from there.

yeah i did the same. My total mileage is still correct

I set off from welling - though rarely as early as 7.00. I normally head off anytime from 8.00 to 9.30am.

Back wheel's now looking iffy - two broken spokes - slightly out of true.

don;t think I can risk riding it home, so will be getting on train.

    and train again tomorrow.

    Goodbye top 10 :(

Progress thwarted! The roads were totally clear last night meaning i could get out for a night ride on my road bike. Snow overnight meant it was back to the mtb for the slow grinding commute in this morning....

it was a new wheel just before xmas - I should have checked it for loose spokes a couple of weeks ago but didn't.

Ho hum, I'll be back in the saddle next week though.

Cleaned mine on Tuesday night ready for the ride in on wednesday and found my rear wheel was pretty much seized solid! thought it felt tough on the ride home!, an hour later the hub was stripped and rebuilt with fresh grease and spinning as it should, the ride in this morning was definetly easier, was fine at the weekend when i gave it a quick going over so must have been all the salt and slush on Monday and Tuesday that killed it.

I'm not on the 2010 list, and when I try and sign up to add myself it tells me I'm already there.

    What am I doing wrong?

Just add some miles, they automatically go into 2010.

    Not too many though.

Yo - that's me back on the board with some real commuting miles. Jeez it was cold, and wet, and a puncture halfway didn't add much to the joy & merriment. All my clobber should have dried out in time for the return journey this evening tho. Bring it on.

Porgy - slow down man. You're out of sight almost.

    Mid-table mediocrity for me.

Oh well, always said it was about consistency. Let's see where we all are in a few weeks....

Now I know why the Inuit have so many different words for snow. Out on the MTB last night and it was just crazy. Sludgy, squishy snow on top of compacted icy snow with patches of bare mud. Whereas last week there was crispy fluffy snow followed by a different texture of squishy sludgy snow. It all looked the same. But places that we re ok last week were impassable last night. It was a real effort to get any where.

Only did half our regular route. Didn't feel like we only did half though.

    Bring on the thaw!

I see Londonlivvy has put in a blinder 127 miles in a day in this weather, phew!
No chance of me pulling any of those distances just yet, still banked out an extended 32 milers this morning, hopefully with the same on the way home, weather permitting.

I did notice the odd twinge of ligament pain in the knee, mmmmh! will have to keep an eye on that one.

  • Am I allowed to back date mileage? Signed up today but did 5 trips from Ealing to Hyde Park (and back) since 01/01/2010. I've added them anyway

And commute distance - my maximum total will be less than 3k miles though there might be some potential for summer extensions but that's a bit tricky.

Presumably only if you take the direct route? Or do you live on a very small island?

um. no. Not 127 miles in a day. Ever. I have no idea what I've done. I am clearly being blonde. But if I remove that, then I end up with 151 miles, which is also tosh. I've gone through my mapmyride records - total of 312 - less the 48.9 miles on rollers and so have a total of 263. I've updated accordingly.

Sorry! but thanks for spotting that.

I am now going away skiing for the weekend so I shall have sunk even further down the table by the time I get back!
  • Now, I know I'm never going to trouble the higher echelons, but should I sign up with the knowledge that my current YTD takes me just above CiB?

Difficult to find a happy medium - my direct route is pretty safe and pretty direct and not too horrible for Leeds! Most of the alternatives aren't really a great regular option - eg I could get some good miles in via North Leeds but it would require some high stress mileage on the way back. Not to mind for the odd weekend ride but not that enticing on a regular basis. I do have alternatives but most involve more height gain than horizontal gain!

Have you considered just riding to work, back home, back to work in the morning and then the reverse in the evening? Or if that's too much, you could just go partway home in the morning. Easy to do extra miles if you really want to.

    Hello!
You are. That's what the starting mileage in the Sign Up page is for, and the Adjust Mileage option on the main updates page. As long as you've done the miles you can stick them on the leaderboard.

No rollers / turbo miles though. We frown on that.

    Enjoy.
