But I'm sticking to my guns and I think the driver did see Mr Plum and took the chance0

He wasn't the person who got arsey, the driver was, even though he was the one who had pulled out.
As far as confrontation goes, I would have rode on, but I'm glad there are people like Mr Plum, who can stand up to bullies without losing their temper.0 -

This is more to the point. Whilst I agree with and appreciate tallmansix's analysis of the incident, it wasn't the fact that he pulled out on me - this happens almost everyday on these roads. It was the fact that the driver beeped me and was then a complete dick about it and tried to start a fight.FCN 2 to 80 -

Loved how you laughed at the driver and waved! Well done! I admire that; my first reaction would have been to swear off my head, LOL!0 -
A kid tried to make me blind with laser pointer. I didn't move from the building until I identified the windows where the kid was hiding. The video was sent to the local online newspaper, I hope, they will public as an attention, that it's crime, he can land in prison for some years.

To be honest after viewing the video I think you brought this on yourself. You saw the car and made the decision not to slow down and then you chose to squeeze through a small gap. The car driver beeped at you, but then you were as much as a dick as him as you could have simply carried on going.
From reading what you have said it sounds like you've taken exception to being beeped at! Basically the whole incident would have been avoided if a) you slowed down when you saw the car and b) you carried on instead of making the effort to turn around and choosing to become involved in an argument.0 -
Not my work commute, but a bit of the route to my Parents. I go the long way round which takes me about as far as going to work, it's nice countryside to cycle through and it avoids the busy A road (though I do have to use it for a few hundred yards) .

I'll get some of my actual commute soon0 -

That is a terrible junction!
You have to hold the drivers responsible but they were all at it - every vehicle going left there was about to left hook at least one cyclist.
That is one VERY lucky woman.Chunky Cyclists need your love too! :-)

So I should have stopped, asked him to reverse then go past?FCN 2 to 80 -
There's no doubt the baldy man is a berk but you could have handled that situation better IMO Mr Plum. Maybe go a touch slower on these narrow roads with blind junctions?
I wonder if you would have handled it differently if it was an lady in a Micra? i.e. been a bit more patient with the gap.
I know that I'm more likely to ride a touch more belligerently around Mercs and Bimmers. :oops:0 -
The gap was there and it was clear gap otherwise I wouldn't have gone for it. I fully accept that a few of us aren't going to see this the same way so I'll leave it at that.
Anyway, how about some cycling from Russia - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTeLj4j_v5k

Stopped, slowed down, anticipate what may happen ahead and approach hazards at an appropriate speed would seem pretty reasonable.
If you were in a car and something similar happened would you turn around and get involved in an argument?0 -
To contrast the somewhat frantic nature of London, here's what it's like in Carlisle. This is a bit after rush hour and we have recently had the blessing of a new bypass route that has taken nearly 70% of the traffic out of the central routes! As a result, it's much nicer to cycle through now0

^^ nice one mate! Think I need to get me one of those go pro cameras, there bloody dear though!0

It's a bit of a long one (just under 12min in it's entirety) but here is my commute from yesterday morning.
linky
I can also take the direct route along the road, which would be just under 2miles, all downhill apart from the last 100m.0 -
Just out of interest, who uses the Contour Vented Helmet mount?
Has anyone used something else or bodged a way round one? £17 seems a lot of money for plastic and velcro! :shock:0 -

It's good. Not sure how you could bodge something else.0 -

More to the point, if you've paid £200 plus for a camera, why would you want to "bodge" a mount for it? Just stop being a tightarse and take the wallet out of mothballs.0 -
Well a £127 for a HD camera is reasonable. Paying more than a tenth of that price for Velcro and plastic is excessive..
However if there is no other choice...0 -
I have one as well - it works, although it does rattle when in the middle position. It's not normally an issue because of where I have mine mounted. It's slightly to the front of the helmet so the clicked 'back' position holds it tight in place.Chunky Cyclists need your love too! :-)

Well Evans are doing the Goggle Strap mount for £9.99 so I got one of those.
I have some Petzel straps that are the same size as ski goggle straps and it'll fit on the helmet.
So... There's another £7 saved...0 -
I've got the vented helmet mount and other than making sure the straps are tight it is very secure. I did replace the straps with cable ties but was a little paranoid the ziptie might break. The other helmet mount is also used but I've stuck it on the side of the PC case for when I'm transferring files and charging the camera, it's off the desktop and out of the way. Just need to do something similar for the Garmin.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0
