I need to get out to places like that more! Been upto the Isle of Mull (that was a few years ago mind you) and that was super, I loved the barrenness and ruggedness of the place. I love the lake district too (and of course the moors and the dales). Vast expanse areas and wilderness are amazing. To know there isn't anyone else around for miles. I like coming across random wildlife too when your in places like that.delightfully dangerous!0 -

I looked at your pics from skye and it looks breath taking! Or it may be your superb photography skills!
No worries, wow you're giving a lecture! I find it hard enough giving a presentation, the idea of a lecture would terrify me!
I was thinking of going on one of those organised mtb holidays in the lakes, however when I inquired about availability I was the only one interested in going on it! ha ha! never mind, don't know if they're supposed to be any good anyways.delightfully dangerous!0 -

im doing a 24-25miler on the Moors tomorrow, 10:30-10:40am at Chop Gate if you care to join. 4000ft of climbing, lots of epic downhills and moorland single track. Based on the ride people will be doing on Saturday but with abit on the end, mainly so you get a better descent down into Chop Gate.

I find its easier to go with a few friends and rent a cottage for the week. Then you can do whatever you fancy. Thats what we did in Skye, did hiking and biking. Would of done some mountaineering too, but not in Feb its far too rough!
Would love to spend a week in the lakes doing some riding, both Trail centre riding and natural trails/bridalway esp since you can take your bike up Helvellyn!Yorkshire Man living in Somerset

Ouh, yes it would be a little rough in feb I can imagine!
Wow biking Helvellyn, now that would be an experience!
Yea i'd love to do that too. I'd have to add a bit of horse trekking in there too!! Something i'll have to consider for the near future!delightfully dangerous!0 -

Deffo, however you could end up collecting O/S maps. lol. My collection is ever growing! lol.
It was so windy one of the days in Feb we didn't bother trying to walk in it, let alone try and bike up mountains!

Horse riding is amazing, to feel as one with a animal with its own mind (cheesy I know but..!) its another great way to escape everyday life too. But with biking its different again. Are you trying to tell me that my choice of downhill at the end is not very good....
I was in fact thinking of doing almost the similar route, but I was trying to get away from the long section in the middle where you are up on Rutland Rigg towards Ingelby Bank. If it is windy it can drag on a bit.
The last downhill you are doing is definitely better but at this moment in time I don't think my fitness could handle another 5 mile.... :oops:0 -

I'll def be there, making a weekend of it, going up tomorrow afternoon, parking up at the Jet miners Inn at Great Broughton Fri night, few bevvies possibly then stopping at the Buck, Chop gate Sat night, few more bevvies certainly. Then may find somewhere for a tootle on bikes with the Mrs (she likes it flat and easy) on Sunday. The weather certainly seems to be warming up!
