Been away in the Lakes the past week. Had a good hike up Old Man of Coniston last Sunday, then took the bike out on Tuesday and Thursday.

Tuesday was a loop from Coniston to Torver and back over Walna Scar Road, couple of leg burners and good DH's.

Though, Walna has had a re-lay, there are still a few rocky sections.

Thursday, I took a loop to the North of Coniston, towards Little Langdale via Tarn Hows and Tilberthwaite.

Lakes are well worth the trip, shame it takes over 4hrs to get there...

I've finally finished mapping the Wolds Way by bike. I've tried to do as much offroad as possible and follow the actual route as near as possible?

I'm sure it can be refined further but this is a first go at the full thing.

I've avoided footpaths as much as possible, though there are still one or two "cheeky" ones in there, mainly the local ones; like the one up from Ferriby to the scout camp or any that suddenly went from Bridlepath to footpath!! :?

I'm going to try riding parts of it to see how well it rides then I'll update the route if I change anything.

    I've uploaded it HERE

Nice bit of mapping there Noddy.

It doesn't look that hard, but 89 mile with quite abit off road, could be an arse breaker...

How long do you think it would take, 8-9 hours with stops? A ride for early September maybe....

Thanks Giggs, I'm not sure of the times as yet. I could use Memorymap to calculate it roughly based on average speeds?
I'm going to ride some parts of it as I think there are probably some bits that could follow footpaths if they run along tracks similar to the one that runs around the querry out of Melto Bottom. I might be able to improve on the distance a bit then and possibly make it more interesting; athough with it being the Wolds, the most challenging bit will be slogging over tracks that are chewed up by cattle and horses!!

Based on an average speed of about 7mph, Memorymap is saying 16Hours 46Mins!!!
  • Nice one on mapping the wolds way out....when we doing it? :D im planning on walking it now in sept as at creamfields on the august bank hol......im really up for this and reckon if we get our heads down and dont get lost shouild be 10 hours ish, give or take. I reckon they will be the odd section that will be a struggle but thats part of the adventure right!

Il let you guys sort it as kinda feel im jumping on your plan here...but if its ok, i would love to come along :)

what the hell have you done to your bike that looks fugly
  • I don't think the pic does it justice.... :D

Carbon forks, not the best looking I know. Definitley looked better on the net. It might look a tad sexier with 29er's.

Good mapping noddyh, but you can count me out of this as i have no bike for the foreseeable future due to lack of funds for repairs, ive also lost interest in mountain biking at the moment anyway.....

sory for the absense guys, i have been moving house and the guy who's internet i have been piggybacking off has moved out (the arse!)

anyways, there is no full off road route along the wolds way as such, although you can link a few routes together via quiet roads.

the route from market weighton to beverley is the hudson way. it is accessed at either the hayride pub in beverley, malton road in molescroft or etton road in cherry burton. it comes out next to the toilet block and park in market weighton. the wolds way actually crosses it just after kiplingcoates.

has any of you done the pennine bridleway? its going to form part of our big ride next year. ;)

giggs, can you pm me dan's number. TA!

After not being on the bike for a month and half and putting on some weight over that period, and also being out of breath climbing the stairs,i dragged my backside off the sofa and out on the bike yesterday, only did a bit of road riding tho,15 miles in 54 mins, wasnt to bad seeing as i hadnt been out for a while.
The new brake pads i fitted havent fixed the problem of no front brake tho,so looks like im going to have to either take it in to lbs for them to bleed it or do it myself.

Theres tonnes of stuff on Youtube how to bleed them yourself? It's something I haven't done yet, that and servicing suspension forks.

    Hey guys,

Just spotted this thread after looking around the forum, I am a bit of a beginner and I just picked up a new bike (Boardman Team HT) I haven't rode a bike properly since I was younger, but I really want to get back into it properly.

Do you guys all ride regularly around Hull? I have a couple of mates that are getting into bikes but no one seems that fussed really, so aside from going out for rides on my own I'm a bit stuck!

I have been out to the quarry's around South Cave and found a couple of tracks, but nothing substantial enough for off road riding as they are only short. If any of you have some decent routes or places to ride around it would be appreciated. Also what about places a little further afield? I haven't been up to Dalby yet, as I'm sure going on your own is no fun!

Anyways enough of my ramblings :D

    Hi Phillr,

The rides on here at the moment have gone a bit quiet......

I myself had lost interest, but need to get back out again as it was my only means to keep the waist from expanding  ,im sort of without a bike at the moment for off roading as both mine need repairs, but i do have use of a frame Giggsmaster has leant me,so i should really build it back up so i can get out till i can afford to have mine repaired.

As for trails local, you can put a ride together using the bridleways/footpaths and a bit of road to make a ride of 13-20 miles,as you say tho,no massive climbs or descents tho.

As for Dalby,if you havent been on a bike for a while id maybe think twice about trying the red and black routes if going by youreself as it might be a bit daunting for a novice and you could end up getting into a bit of trouble, there are green/blue routes which can get youre fitness and confidence up tho.........further afield you have the Peaks/Dales and North York Moors which is where we do the majority of our riding, only thing is if you dont know the areas you would need to be a good map reader or have someone who has been out on the trails, again tho you would need to have a certain level of fitness as the climbs can be brutal and the descents very technical.

After all that, and if i havent put you off to much  ,id just keep a eye on here to see if anyone posts future rides.

    Thanks for the reply.

I had a quick look at the map of the cycle routes and I was looking at starting on the blue and seeing how I get on. I will need to get my fitness up to scratch too, as I stopped going to the gym due to laziness and it has had a big effect on my climbing and biking!

I'll also keep an eye on here to see if there are any rides posted up, what how tough are the routes you do? would it be something suitable for a beginner? I have a car/bike rack so I could always help out with lifts etc :)
