i'll check the forum later, if nobody is coming out i will watch the footy instead and do a road ride. moggy, it would take me forever to get to mortimer forest so i think i would give it a miss for the moment.

Planning 2 night rides this week:

    Wednesday, Wyre forest 7pm - 9:30pm
Park at the Duke William, hose to clean your bike off at the end of the ride, visit the pub for a quick beverage after ride to say thanks for use of car park/hose etc.

    Thursday, Clent hills 7pm - 9pm
Park on Adams hill near the top. No Hose available on this one.

Please let me know if anyone interested. Got 1 set (bars and helmet) of lights if anyone needs to borrow.

i will be there wednesday. thursday is a bit of a question mark for me at the moment though. i seemed to get on ok last time with the tesco lights although i could do with a bit more throw/spread at times :?

How/where are they mounted. What size bars are you running!

The Tesco lights actually throw quite well tbh, they just have little spread. If you measure a tesco and P7 directly both at about 10m directly i dont reckon there would be much difference, just that the hotspot on the P7 is about 6 times the size.

    See you all at 7pm

they are bar mounted either side of my stem on jubilee clips (taped up the torches and bars to avoid pointless marking). i actually own 3 of the AA torches and one C torch but realistically there is only room on my bars for two. i may try and helmet mount the other one tonight but i have to see what i have available to do it with first though.
it was my terms that were off TBO, i meant just spread as oppose to throw, last week paul had a good spread but not a lot of distance and i had a good distance but not much closer up, although it was enough to get by with really.

Leave one off tonight, i got a low power MCE very wide beam. that you can try. And i have a hope mount with a bracket that fits aa tesco torches if you want to borrow that.

The MCE is about 400+ lumens on high for 2 hours still. Tesco is about 110 lumens! MCE and a tesco will give good spread, but with depth off the tesco. And a tesco on helmet will improve confidence.

Cool hope i make it, need to see how these torches compare to an old Hope 2, looking for another long throw bar mount light, and cheep is good if it works. Mates all have Hope 4's so usually get blinded

I have added a tesco light to my bars this week........last week I was only running some old electron commuting lights, a 5 and 10 watt....a fairly good spread, but not enough to inspire confidence to go faster. (+ alpkit headtorch).

But to be honest I have not done much night riding off road and did not want to spend a large amount on lighting for occasional use.

I have a torch on order from DX as the technology has moved forward quite a bit and the prices are much cheaper now :)

will do, i am thinking of chopping up the C cell one and running it off a AA battery pack but i need to go out and get some parts first so i will make that a weekend project i think. thanks for that chris. i may put my spare tesco in my hydration pack with fresh batteries in for the ride home as it only takes a couple of seconds to switch torches over in the jubilee clip :)

The c cell collimator produces a very tight spot though. i keep mine in my car as my emergency torch as both a light and a weapon.

Better off modding 2 of the aa lights, mod up a 8aa battery holder, i got a spare one, so its 2S4P, then run this in series to the lights. Use one of my QR mounts and put the battery in a tesco value camera pouch, i got some cable from maplins if you need a bit.

Do you know about modding the white bit of the reflector to make the beam more broad too.

i'll speak to you about it tonight, i'm a bit of a novice with electronics (i also couldnt get the C cell one apart enough)

Well a old hope 2 was only about 280 lumens so a p7 will blow that away. Hope 4's are 880 lumens taking optic losses into account. 2 p7's would easily beat that rated at 900 max typical of about 670 and 590 with optic loss you can easily beat much more expensive lights. I have spent a lot on torches and batteries but no where near the cost of any light that comes close to the output and possible runtimes i have.
  • Anyone fancy a ride over the wrekin sunday there's another thread about it been there before and it was good and not much MUD

if you couldn't tell, the mud angered me tonight :x sticking all the chewed up leaves and twigs in my rear mech and stopping it working although apart from that it was pretty fun. i was really quick getting to the car park and up the hill :D and i managed to get home just before 10 too :D
  • Yea the mud got on my tits too but had a couple of stella's now and all is good
  • Did I miss a good ride ??

But Thursday I'm riding at the Chase in the day :) while you lot are likely working :)

you missed the usual mudfest :P a couple of crashes etc...

You missed a good ride. I loved the camber run, was slippy but i went all out and nailed it. Having about 3x the light output of anyone else helped though.

The wrekin is ok, not that much to ride there, you need to link in a loop over the ercall to make it worthwhile, coming down across the middle of the quarry is always quite spectacular! It is as far if not further for you lot than mortimer!!

The mud wasn't much fun last night, I was getting a little pi$$ed off with it ! :x

The forestry work is churning up some of the routes to the point of not being able to ride on them !

A couple of crashes and a slightly bruised knee :( Still good fun.

Not sure what I can do at the weekend at the moment, my car failed the MOT, problems with the power steering, so I am waiting on that at the moment.....
