My line of thought was that as it's rather cheap on Wiggle a 53/39 might not be a bad thing to have in the cupboard, should I ever need it...
However, I would have no clue how to fit it, although thanks for the pages Jon! It's getting clearer.
Is my reasoning daft?
And Jon, it IS a motor. That's the only possible explanation.0 -

If it makes you go faster then it must be, right?! :P0 -

I have hit 53mph using a 50x12. Maybe I could have hit 55mph with a 52x11 as I could have pedalled for a little bit longer. Top speed isn't really an issue with choosing the gearing, the real benefit I think of a standard as opposed to a compact is in terrain which is rolling rather than hilly. The mid ranges on the standard work better than on a compact i.e. you don't end up using the top and bottom gears on the cassette as much and therefore have better alignment of the chain for more of the ride.Short hairy legged roadie FCN 4 or 5 in my baggies.

Go on. You've got the boiler. Nothing stands in your way now.
Ooo, another idea: you need lightweight wheels for next year. Go on...FCN 2-4.

Alright... if they go below £300 and they still have stock, I'm having them. If they don't fit, I'll sell them on fleabay.0

I just bought a shiney new Ultegra SL groupset to go on my Roubaix. The old groupset will then get transplanted onto my old roadbike for use on the winter commute :-)2010 Lynskey R230

Not yet, no. My massive incompetence on hills is what's standing in my way, you see. Also, I don't know that 50/11 will ever be too spinny a gear...
You're rather less massively incompentent than me (well, unless I'm on my 'clown bike'...). I imagine there can't be many who'd find 50/11 too spinny..at 100 cadence that'll be 35.5 mph!!!Dahon Speed Pro TT; Trek Portland

Haha, I have just done an Olivia My FSA Gossamer chainset* is getting quite worn, and I have had crank issues with the left hand crank, so seeing that Chain Reaction have it on sale for £60 (reduced from £290) made it a no brainer.
*This excellent chainset is available too, in 170mm crank size, for £29.99, down from £1100 -
-
Hmm, I think I may have just purchased a chainset with a different BB from the one I currently have! ISIS rather than MegaExo. Does this mean I can just buy a new ISIS BB and fit the lot (by which I obviously mean have my LBS fit the lot)?0

It's a new style of clip-in pedal, compatible with winter boots. In white with blingy gold bits, it should be ideal for your pink bike.
Getttttt ittttttt.......

Oddly, they've always done a little bit of snowboarding/skateboarding gear... it's actually how I found the old commuter in the first place.0
