@CJ: There wasn't enough chainstay clearance to fit a road double . You can get a 50T in 104 BCD 4-arm, so when I have money to burn...
@IP: Don't you need to get Brun to sort out that avatar? :PDavid

How cheap is this?

I mean, no, of course I don't need a racing double, but it's so cheap I almost feel I should buy it anyway, in case I MTFU at some point in the distant future...0 -
LIT, perhaps "cheap" is not the right word. My 15 quid FSA MTB crank rates as cheap. Over 300 for a crank, no matter how much of a bargain that may be, it ain't cheap ...
ps. You've never been shy of the big GI, what are you waiting for?David

Oh, it's all relative. Its RRP is £530, and it usually goes for £480-ish... I haven't found anywhere else selling them for £300-ish...0

Now, I can see what you've done there, and why you're doing it, but I'm afraid no gold stars have been issued for stereotypical comedy.
In summary, no.0 -

Not yet, no. My massive incompetence on hills is what's standing in my way, you see. Also, I don't know that 50/11 will ever be too spinny a gear...0 -

Fail on the louis vuitton as well...
But a gold star issued for the SPD heels! I actually bought a pair with a plan to put SPD cleats in them... now where did they get to?0 -

I have 50/11 and there's been more than a few occasions when I've wished I had those three extra teeth to add a little bit more to the GI.
I've also been finding that I can easily get away with going up a moderate hill in 50/17 or 50/19.
Only time I'm down on the 34 upfront is when I'm either starting off or coming to a stop and that's only for a few seconds until I've got up to speed, then it's up into the 50 for cruising speed and laying down the rubber!0 -

In all seriousness, how easy is it to swap from a compact to a double if you're a slightly incompetent girl who's a little afraid of breaking her bike? Do you have to do stuff with the front mech?0

lost_in_thought wrote:In all seriousness, how easy is it to swap from a compact to a double if you're a slightly incompetent girl who's a little afraid of breaking her bike? Do you have to do stuff with the front mech?
think it depends on what front mech you currently have on whether you will need to upgrade that too.
this matches nicely if you do: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Campagnolo_Record_11-Speed_Band-On_Front_Derailleur/5360039671/
edit: think it might also be an issue if the chainstays are shaped to allow for compacts as there might not be enough clearance for a double, although I'm not 100% on that.0 -
I already have record 11 everything, but it's a compact 50/34 as opposed to a double...0

My cranks are ultra-torque too...
Edit: And it looks like there'd be room for a 53, but it'd be tight.0
