Yeah I've heard mixed reports about the HyRd lever throw too which is a bit of a concern, I'm on old style Tiagra levers so I'll unpack them carefully and give them a squeeze in the garage before I commit.

My understanding is that Tiagra made the change with 4600 - if you're before that, I suspect you won't have much joy either.

I do wonder how the Hope system is set up, as it strike me that it'll always be an issue with this kind of system. The Giant is quite deliberately set up so that you can't pre load the piston with tension - you can only access the bolt to tighten the cable when it is at rest.
I can't comment on the Hope system, but I have no less than 5 Parabox systems (same idea, same era), and they have similar limitations. I've actually got them working very well with SRAM levers, but they're quite fiddly to get right. You can adjust just about everything, but that gives you the ability to create problems for yourself. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone who doesn't either have a good understanding of how hydraulic brakes work, or a very good LBS (I can imagine lesser LBSs might struggle with these...)

Ahh, good oh, I'm on 4600 so fingers crossed.

I really really really can't be doing with the constant cable fettling that I was doing with my single sided calipers.

If I can't get these to work I'll sell the lot and buy a new bike.

Mine was a pain to set up, partially because it had been removed carelessly and one hose was leaking I grant you. Since fitting I've barely touched it and have been very pleased with it. That's using 10 speed 105 levers.
I'm still envious of proper full hydraulics though.

Juin Tech's are £150 the pair, all stuff included. Should even be a 10% code on the net somewhere.

I had bad experience using those - caliper seized which seems a common fault.
    +1
I had to send one of my calipers back for a replacement after it seized.

  • Rejoice, I will now stop asking questions about what turbo to buy and what skewer I need etc. \o/

Just bought an Elite Direto through PBK for ~£637, using a 15% off RRP discount code sent to me this morning by e-mail, where I had to visit site through e-mail link to validate the code. Expected in warehouse tomorrow, delivered before Xmas. :D

Half expecting to find the e-mail was a clever phishing scam*; turbo doesn't arrive before Xmas; Halfords to get them back in stock and sell them at ~£625 including BC discount like they did around Black Friday etc. ;)

    * So clever it lists all my previous purchases from PBK i.e Lezyne Super GPS for ~£100.

Only issue I have is my rear one doesn't feel as harp as my Hy:Rds, spoke to Edge Sport and they recommended bleeding the calliper. I've got the kit but not had the time to do it yet.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Intrigued to see what one of these is all about - as a casual piece of clobber.

Price matched by Wiggle, from Merlin:

It's early days - I've only ridden 20 miles on them but so far the HyRds are working perfectly with my old Tiagra levers. Lever pull is perfect, power is as good as the old brakes, potentially no better, but they were good enough for me anyway and they're probably not fully bedded in anyway.

Touching wood, but as long as they stay this way I will be a happy bunny.

I guess I may need a Fizik post to match it. But my stem is Deda. So I may have to swap that to Fizik too.

Got some 38c Hyper Voyagers for the Hack, PX were doing a free knock off evade helmet if you bought a £50 voucher, so I got a helmet, 2 tyres and a new SS Baselayer for the price of postage.

  • Having ordered yesterday afternoon, I just received https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00LIIMHP4 and https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00NH12O5I , so I have the option of using the Elite Training app on my pc.

But unbelievably, my Elite Direto seems to be lost, having somehow started with DPD and then upgraded to Hermes... Except the tracking number for Hermes doesn't exist! No turbo trainer for me until after Xmas, as things stand. :(

Don't you worry. Xmas is meant to be joyful, an occasion to share with the family. The pain, the real pain, is reserved for Easter.

    Sorry, I attended RC schoool.

Castelli Nanoflex Pro Omloop shorts. Got Wiggle to price match Merlin's sale price of £62.50 (guessing they might be too long for me as I'm a short-arse, so may benefit from the free returns). With TopCashBack came to just over 60 quid. Not bad for shorts with the Progetto2 pad....

The Carnac helmet fits really nicely, no good for the winter because the vents are in the wrong place for my Link light, but I'm really tempted to get another couple of the other styles, I've never been 100% happy with the fit of my Giro Foray.

    Gyah!

Ebay were offering 20% off anything today and my feet were cold this morning, so I bought a pair of Shimano MW5 boots for £84. Bit more tasteful than the scott heaters, plus a bit of cashback from quidco.
