... anyone else think it's a totally pointless thing?

I suppose I agree - though about the only use for a 15mm spanner is to do pedals on a bike. Most bikes seem to come with one and perhaps the bike manufacturers are pushing to just be able to supply a cheap Allen key.

Ahh... it's not a 15 mm spanner, I seem to recall it is a 9/16 of an inch, which works out as 14 point something.

You wouldn't think about such small savings on Ultegra or Dura Ace though, would you? It's just very inconvenient to access and therefore need a fairly long 8 mm key to get decent leverage. Basically it is a shoot system

Probably right on the imperial thing but everyone supplies a 15mm spanner to do them. E.g.:

    https://www.evanscycles.com/fwe-15mm-pe ... AtU58P8HAQ

Agree with UCE that Torx would probably be better

No reason why they couldnt do both - set up for a hex/torx key but also have the slots to use a pedal spanner - would save some weight too...!

From Bike Discount. As we have an Islabikes, I had to buy the quick release adapter too, which is an extra £17 or so.

Thanks Gabriel - I am in the same situation, did you buy the QR adaptor from Bike Discount as well (Can't see it obviously on there) or from a UK Stockist?

EDIT: Ignore that - now I see it

You didn't need this at all:
    https://www.bike-discount.de/en/buy/followme-adapter-quick-release-xl-441020

Thinking of using it on a hardtail MTB with discs, and or a disc brake road bike - both of which I assume have slightly wider rears.

I've been staring at that followme for a while now, just can't believe the price compared to the bikes that'll be using it!
But like the islabikes, they seem to carry their price though into the second hand market.

Nothing. I've bought absolutely nothing. Nor can I think of a justification for buying anything. Bike related anyway.

I'm about to pay a bloke an obscene amount to replace an elderly back boiler with something more efficient, a different bloke to skim and cove 2 ceilings, and yet another bloke to install a log burner and associated flue. Then I'm going to install some PIR insulation beneath the floor and fit new floorboards and skirting downstairs before decorating and replacing a geriatric 3 piece suite and dining room furniture. Oh, and the laptop is farked too.

Once I've paid for that lot I may treat myself to a pair of socks...

Just about room but it's close.
Those are GP4000s 28's on there which I think come up large anyway. And tyres seem to come up a bit big on these rims too. There's a couple of mm on either side of the chainstays. 3-4mm on the front (top and sides).
So probably no good if you were doing anything gravelly or muddy, but ok on the road.

Been after a Mojito for several months now so finally succumbed in Cycle Republic for £79.97 but no BC 10% :(

The 8mm allen key thing is a PITA after losing a chainset cause of it. Pedals needed removing cause the bearings had some play so tried to undo them with no success, a local shop tried with handtools and failed and resorted to the angle grinder and cut the crank. They did say there was a tiny split in the socket and as they put more effort into turning the split was opening up. I'm sticking to low end M520s etc that can be had for around £20 and are good for 2 years before they need replacing.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

I have M520s on one bike and an older pair of M540s on the other. They all come off once a year for a wipe and a fresh dollop of copperslip on the threads before reassembly. I've always been nervous about the 540s because they have no flats for a pedal spanner.
They are 4 and 10 years old respectively and I've serviced them once. Still working flawlessly.

After much procrastination, have finally pressed the button (aided and abetted by a certain Daniel B of this parish)....2016 Scott Solace 10 disc in 54cm. £1,599 from CycleDivision, reduced from £2,700 or thereabouts. Perhaps overpriced at list, but great price for Ultegra, hydro disks and able to take 28-30mm tyres. Hopefully a slightly more compliant ride than my CR1 SL....

loving the CAAD but how did you get the ultegra crankset to fit?

It makes for some very snug cable routing though for the brake hose and gear cables

Saw someone else had done it (albeit with Rotor cranks, but still 24mm) so thought why not

C-Bear are really nice bearings. But you can buy odd cannondale BB30A specific adaptor from Chain reaction. One side is just like a normal 30mm to 24mm adaptor - the other side is slightly thinner.

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/s?q=bb30a&cat=direct

I was about to buy the C-Bear for my synapse when I found a bargain ceramic speed bb and those adaptor

You can also buy diret - but seems more expensive at present

Oh and by the way - lovely looking build. Hope it is as fast as it looks

I dug my old Boardman MX Comp out of the garage. The freehub is seized, and the wheel's a bit Pringle ish. So rather than mess around true ing the wheel and getting the freehub off, and looked at, I thought I'd use it as an excuse to get a new / better wheel and freehub. I've got a bargain basement Mavic Crossone 29 er disc wheel and freehub. I don't know if it's going to fit without a bit of meddling yet, but I believe it should be okay.

I'm hoping I will be able to replicate this Solace I found on google with a slammed stem...
    solace_sm_zpszleuz3li.jpg
My CR1 SL has a 156mm headtube (with a 20 mm cone spacer between the stem and headset cap). The same size frame in the Solace has a 165mm headtube, so reckon i can get away with either 1 x 10mm spacer between stem and headset cap, or none). Will need some 38mm disc carbon clinchers too 8) reckon it looks good...

Great, it is a good system. Just one thing I found it quite hard to install the bracket on the islabikes with the included material (a velcro strap). In the end I had to resort to a piece of old inner tube so that there was enough material between the frame and the bracket.
