I have a elderly MTB which is now just shy of 12 years old, I had used it for MTBing funny enough! until a few years back, where I repurposed it as my town bike.
Taking it home from the bike shop the other day, realised that only original parts left is the frame, stem, handbar and seat post.
The first big things to go was the hydraulic brakes that never worked well, and replaced them with something more modern a few years back, last year both wheels died and most of the drive chain....followed this year by the remaining shifter.
while the bike isn't worth the money, it got me back riding etc hence keeping it. and becoming something of a Grandfathers Axe.0 -
All I have of my old MTB is the bars and saddle. I'd swapped them out and then it got nicked. It was properly shagged by then so I hope the thief broke his knuckles trying to shift the BB (I saw the frame on Ebay)0

Perhaps overpriced at list, but great price for Ultegra, hydro disks and able to take 28-30mm tyres. Hopefully a slightly more compliant ride than my CR1 SL....

^Those Praxis cranks look very nice, but are they really much better than Ultegra? Can get a 6800 compact or semi-compact for around 160 quid I think. Only second bike with Shimano, all others have been Sram. Clearly took the lightweight carbon cranks, shifters and RD cage for granted on my CR1....Titus Silk Road Ti rigid 29er - Scott Solace 10 disc - Kinesis Crosslight Pro6 disc - Scott CR1 SL - Pinnacle Arkose X 650b - Pinnacle Arkose singlespeed - Specialized Singlecross...& an Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray 4 string...0

those cranks can be had for about the same and yes they are much better and not just in terms of weightRule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

OK, I'm confused....which Praxis bottom bracket adaptor do I need for a Shimano BB72-41B Press Fit, or will the bottom bracket shell take their proprietary M30 bb, once the original is removed?
Edit: BB86, right? This is from the PX website:
"The SM-BB72-41B PressFit bottom bracket is made to press right into your frame. It will mate your Shimano HollowTech crankset to any frame equipped with a BB86 bottom bracket shell. This bottom bracket also comes with two steel cartridge bearings that are pressed into composite cups. The cups increase the outside diameter of the assembly to 41mm in order to match the frame's bottom bracket shell. There's a 1.75mm thick outer-lip that provides a positive stop for the cups when you press them into place."Titus Silk Road Ti rigid 29er - Scott Solace 10 disc - Kinesis Crosslight Pro6 disc - Scott CR1 SL - Pinnacle Arkose X 650b - Pinnacle Arkose singlespeed - Specialized Singlecross...& an Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray 4 string...0 -

I do and can alter my journey to visit one but it'd mean locking my bike up outside so I used the InPost locker drop and there's a location right on my commute to work. Needless to say I've bought one too.
An addition to my collection of t-shirts that needs culling is this, which is on pre-order.

55mm clinchers, China's finest interwebs (light-bicycle, these rims I think, though not the build from them)
Shimano CX75 hubs
Sapim D-Light spokes

Loving the deep rims with discs look - they accent each other in some designy type of way.

A pair of Ultegra 6800 pedals on Wiggle at a good price... in composite... very nice but I am a bit disappointed Shimano has rolled out the 8 mm Allen key fixing also on road pedals... the pedal spanner was so much easier than having to reach the inner side of the crank to undo them... anyone else think it's a totally pointless thing?left the forum March 20230

ugo.santalucia wrote:... anyone else think it's a totally pointless thing?
I suppose I agree - though about the only use for a 15mm spanner is to do pedals on a bike. Most bikes seem to come with one and perhaps the bike manufacturers are pushing to just be able to supply a cheap Allen key.ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0 -

Ahh... it's not a 15 mm spanner, I seem to recall it is a 9/16 of an inch, which works out as 14 point something.
You wouldn't think about such small savings on Ultegra or Dura Ace though, would you? It's just very inconvenient to access and therefore need a fairly long 8 mm key to get decent leverage. Basically it is a shoot systemleft the forum March 20230 -

Prefer the allen key, to be honest (actually, would prefer Torx...). The good thing is that you've got much less chance of scratching expensive shiney stuff, especially if you have carbon cranks.0 -
