Just ordered a pear of these bad boys for the alur.

    Time to upgrade the wheels

    Untitled-1_large.jpg?v=1427792783

    With schwalbe 0ne tubeless.

Bit of a wait as they are on pre order - looking forward to seeing how they affect the climbing.

Sram s500 tt shifter, £35 from Planet X - rear only. Helpful advice over on the Workshop section confirmed this should work with a new 11sp Apex 1 rear derailleur as both are "Exact Actuation". Plan is to finally convert my single speed gravel bike to 1 x 11, with this as a bar end shifter (bike already has Hylex hydro disc brakes, so no brifters wanted or needed). The new Apex RDs are pre-order only at the moment, so thought I'd best bag this shifter as hadn't seen them at this low price for ages. Let the acquisition of essential parts begin....

Seeing this post again this morning gave me a silly idea...

Did a test ride on CX Team yesterday, first time ever trying SRAM Double Tap rather than Shimano on a drop bar bike, really didn't like how unpredictable upshifts were at all.

Buy CX Team for £720 with BC, buy right TT shifter from PX, get LBS to route gear shifting through TT bar end shifter instead, similar to the Arkose X?

Or simply try/buy an Arkose X for the extra tyre clearance?

I suspect you'd get used to the SRAM shifts if you bought it!

Maybe, but during a test on a turbo trainer in-store for well over an hour, I really struggled to gauge how far to move the lever to accurately upshift one or two gears as if I was approaching a hill base.

Maybe part of my unconvincing experience was an indexing issue, maybe part of of it was the 4-6 tooth jumps on the larger sprockets on the 10-42 cassette, maybe part of it was that the 105 shifting on my 2006 Felt F5C's 10-speed (14-25T?) is still buttery smooth since it was fitted in 2010 (albeit the bike has ~400 miles on it since fitting, due to my lower back).

I nearly bought a fluro yellow Arkose 2 2014, but I dropped the idea after my lower played up after my 2013 RTA and consequently bought the Wazoo last year. My back has been the best it has been since 2008 in recent months, while my fitness and weight have come on leaps and bounds since January. The problem now is finding an adventure bike with proper hydraulic discs and tyre clearance for at least 38c under £1k, they are like hen's teeth, basically the CX Team (which is borderline on the tyres) or the Arkose X!

Not sure what size you are, but I saw Evans have an ex-demo Arkose X in size large for £750 (plus you get extra money off if you trade in a banger)

    Eastway Balun C2 Cyclocross bike:
    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/eastway-balun-c2-tiagra-2016/

Not an outright purchase, but part warranty settlement from wiggle (Verenti Isolation died), part cash contribution.

Now to decide whether to part it out or keep it as stock...

Anyway, new bike excitement takes the edge off snap election trepidation somewhat!

I'm delighted to see that I'm Wiggle Gold now - I've dropped from being Platinum for the last 8 or 9 years (at a guess). This is a Good Thing. If I finally get to consolidate all of my cycling gear to one location (rather than the three I'm currently managing), I think I'm going to have a lifetime stock of stuff

Castelli CX 2nd layer, from their "pre-race" CX range. RRP is steep at £90, but around for less. Got mine for well under £40 Inc postage :) Great for quick town trips on the single speed...

A whole bunch of wheel building tools from Bike-Discount.de, a Zac 2000 rim and some spokes from Malcolm - going to try my hand replacing a rim on my old steel ride.

Should pay for itself sooner or later, given the money I currently have to spend on handbuilts and rebuilds.

That's my bank holiday weekend planned.... of course the wife and son might have other ideas.

Bought a 105 5700 front derailleur, described by the seller as "105 double front derailleur...", Didn't spot that the item in the drop down box was actually a FD-5703, which is a triple. So front derailleur swappage postponed, while I find the correct combo of colour, band on size & doubleness.

5 x yellow Bike fit cleat shims for my "summer race slippers" (Mavic Zxelliums), to hopefully emulate those fitted to my Mavic Road Pros following a BikeScience fit some years ago. And a Blackburn Outpost top tube bag in special edition camo, to match the frame bag on the Arkose single speed graveller....

Return returned & swapped for an Ultegra FC-6700 (10sp) double - which for unknown reasons was £5 cheaper than the 105 FC-5703.

Also two Decathlon Cassette tools (as above) - but neither of those is for me...

Shifter hoods, brake pads, chain and Cosine Disc Wheels to try and tart up the commuter bike a bit.

And some spare inner tubes and spare gear and brake cables to replenish the spare box.

After much procrastination, have finally pressed the button (aided and abetted by a certain Daniel B of this parish)....2016 Scott Solace 10 disc in 54cm. £1,599 from CycleDivision, reduced from £2,700 or thereabouts. Perhaps overpriced at list, but great price for Ultegra, hydro disks and able to take 28-30mm tyres. Hopefully a slightly more compliant ride than my CR1 SL....
