Ordered some new longs from Wiggle, my Altura tights have developed a hole in the side letting draughts in

Problem is i'll have to put up with the damaged tights a little while longer as medium are out of stock.

I've always be curious whether this things really work, hopefully you'll be able to tell us.

The reason I'm buying one is because I've seen them work in the past - they had them on the maintenance course I did and we all used them there. Was very impressed with the results.

I know some people complain they're useless but I think that's either because they've bought one with very little power (I've heard people say 50 watts minimum, personally I think the 70w one I just bought might not even be enough but will see how I get on) or because they've not used an appropriate cleaning solution.

All the advertising blurb says they clean with plain tap water but the truth is that the ultrasonic action really just helps the water/detergent do its normal job, so you still need to use something similar to what you'd normally clean the part with. I intend to try the cheap Daisy cleaner from Tesco that people have mentioned on these forums before and if that's not great I might use Fenwick's, which is what they used in the cleaners on the course where I first saw them.
  • Ultrasound baths are used routinely in wet labs to clean glassware. I have no idea about the respective power levels, but if you put your hand in one it hurts.

When I was first into "proper" cycling (where I gave a monkeys about the bike I was riding) I enthusiastically put my rear mech and chain in the lab sonicator lobbed a wee bit of a solvent that shall not be named (1,3 tri-anythingyoungandstupidol) in and they came out spectacularly clean. The rear mech was also spectacularly without its labels or protective laquer and the jockey wheels where spectacularly squeaky and had an interesting new texture.
  • well old red now has modern brake leavers, so brakes much like you get on the single/fixed bikes plus some cyclecross ones as well shall see how i get on when it not so icey!

The ultrasonic cleaners you get in labs are likely to be much stronger than the ones you can buy for home use so I imagine that probably played a part.

Just bought a Castelli Devolution SS Jersey and some Van Looy mitts from those nice chaps at wiggle. Summer's just round the corner, right?

I believe you'll find it between June 15th and June 18th at approx 14:20.
    <insert witty comment here>

Also, I have calculated my FCN as 12...although I have no idea what that actually means.

    And some chamois cream.

Now you'll have to excuse me while I resuscitate my bank manager.
  • if any of you are on a super tight budget like me you may be interested in this:

I went into the clothes shop Peacocks today, on looking in the mens section I noted that some of the sports tops looked like very silimar material to my ALDI cyling jacket, and yes on checking my ALDI//CRANE cycling jacket which is fantastic used for several months now is made of 100% polyester, and this Peacock stuff (below that I bought) is too, the link is here (you can get it all online,):

    http://www.peacocks.co.uk/Menswear/Spor ... ports_Tops

    I bought:

    # BLACK CREW NECK SPORTS TOP
    # £8.00 (like a base layer)

    # BLACK ZIP-UP HOODED TOP
    # £12.00 (like a windproof jacket)

    # BLACK ZIP-UP POLO TOP
    # £8.00 (like a jersey)

and if they perform anywhere near as well as the ALDI/CRANE gear which I dont see why they wouldn't (as they are the same material) then thats a bloody bargain! Look good too as well methink!

Oh for god's sake. Sorry to be touchy, but this is the second time this week that someone's pointed something mind bogglingly obvious out to me in response to a semi serious point. The trichloromethane probably had a lot to do with it as well, Jamey.

Well, it's currently on order... but maybe this picture of the, ahem, 08 version will do for now... and no, the colour scheme isn't quite the same, and no, I don't have those wheels.

Very, very nice. :D 8) You've clearly got the potential to be more of a tart than Jash and G66.

Is the 09 frameset red, black and white as opposed to the yellow?

Which groupset did you opt for?

And, most importantly, did they give you free coffee? :P

Oh dear LiTs what have you done

Let the never ending spiral of spending commence, deposit your credit card with the LBS, wiggle etc.

You know you're going to need new clothes, shoes everything to go with that bike

They did give me free tea and coffee, and clif bars which I've never had before and are yummy. I also rode another Viner in similar geometry to what I've ordered which was brilliant, I'm promised that the maxima will be even better.

Obviously (haha) as it's custom, I can have whatever colour i like, so I've gone for their colour scheme - black and white with accents in orange. Yes, orange. I know.

Went for a campy record 11sp... not super, no, because apparently the only difference is a little bit of titanium for weight saving and it's not worth the extra spend for someone who's around 80kg anyway!

Custom paint job too? Cool. "Accents", eh? Is that similar to G66's now infamous description of orange? :)

Clif bars are very nice. I hope you drunk them dry of coffee.

Well, it's their standard 2009 paint job for the frame, I'm not creative enough to think of a custom paint job! And yes, accents! i.e. it's mostly black (well, carbon) and white, and the little bits are orange!

And I think I got through most of their tea!

Actually, I haven't decided that yet.

I was all set on speedplays, but bike shop guy didn't think much of them. I think when I go up and get it I might try a few of the ones they have as demos and see.

EDIT: delivery date is 'in about 5 weeks'...
