Also, I have calculated my FCN as 12...although I have no idea what that actually means.

If you do decide to take it off road I would suggest riding it in freewheel mode. I rode mine off road and fixed and found out you can't bunny hop ditches etc! A bit exciting to say the least. Really good fun though and pretty quick on the firetracks.

The freewheel sounds terrible after just one off road adventure so I guess that will be the first upgrade.
Short hairy legged roadie FCN 4 or 5 in my baggies.

    Felt F55 - 2007
    Specialized Singlecross - 2008
    Marin Rift Zone - 1998
Peugeot Tourmalet - 1983 - taken more hits than Mohammed Ali

indexed 7 speed down tube shifter, i'm so with the latest stuff me

I also need new white bar tape, mine has gone a horrid brown colour.

Tip of the day - buy some bar tape that is a horrid brown colour already - then you won't have to keep cleaning or replacing it

(guess what colour my mtb is?)

    Ha ha!

My saddle is never going to be the same again :( an I think someone might have knocked my bike over as the saddle and bar tape is grazed on one side, I am not amused.

PS. Bar tape white again well sort of

Cheers for the advice, but i wasn't planning on going fixie...have less than 27 gears is weird enough...

But i can mentally picture trying to bunny hop with the cranks still revolving...double

  • Sick of constantly having to play with my rear mech in this dirty weather, so 'invested' in a set of these from Wiggle (£35 with discount)

    rideon-sealed-gear-med.jpg

The guy at a LBS made a mess of the fitting. Took the bloomin seal off part of the cable. 'Wot's the point of splashing out on sealed cables', I said??!! :x Anyway, he managed to sort them out (I think) and they're shiftin like a dream. Will see if they still are in a few weeks time.

They're on my trusty C2C by the way. (And before all the fixies start guffin on about how great it is to have no gears.... I use nearly every one of my 20 every day :P )
Time you've enjoyed wasting, hasn't been wasted

  • Just bought bib shorts (for the summer - bargain), 2 MTB inner tubes, Ultra Gator Skin *2 plus 2 tubes for my winter road bike and a spare set of wheels for my MTB to commute on, 160mm rotors and bolts.
My wife did comment slightly sarcastically "much cheaper than running a car then" - how true!
Just need now to get nice Carbon road bike for my 40th, spare rear wheel for my winter road bike for the turbo and a larger house with a garage. There we go - sorted.
All my life I've wanted to be someone; I guess I should have been more specific.

I cycled around Dartmoor last summer (about 90 miles I think, so less than the sportive... although I was riding solo and it was raining hard all day so I'm arguably way tougher) and I lived near there for a while. Everywhere is either up hill or down hill. Usually steep. Often very steep. There is a flat mile or so near Newton Abbot, but I think its a man made geographical feature.

    Really, order some new knees.

(Seriously though, its pretty much cycling heaven down there - enjoy.)
  • expensive week this one...on top of a new bike,

New Outer, Middle chain rings (middleburn)
New saddle - broke my 'new' one three days after getting it - Spesh Toupe Gel (Pimp White)
New Rear XTR caliper - old one seized despite numerous strip downs
    New Cassette
    New Chain
As many cleaning products that my LBS had

It's more expensive than my car. Hence why I got a single speed bike...keeping it simple from now on...well, Mrs Hondafanatic was convinced with that excuse even if you lot see right through it.

    Should get it next week.

Can't wait!.... well maybe until it stop snowing. :D [/url]

Nice...it was between yours and the Tricross Single speed 09 that I was trying to decide...I only went for the Tricross because I have to go over some rough bridleways on the way home...but I would have preferred your for looks alone.

I was more aware of groups of feral disaffected youths hanging around street corners in Newton Abbot than I've been anywhere else in Britain.

I am now the proud owner of:

    - An ultrasonic cleaner (1.4L tank, 70W power)
    - A KMC X9.93 chain which was cheaper than the X9.73 chains thanks to a special offer.
    - Two KMC Missing Links.

Really? You should go to Ilkeston in Derbyshire.
Also I work at a large place on Shaldon Road.

Back to buying, Continental Training Tyre and a Bike Thong from Ribble, because the Rock and Roll trainer arrived last night. Also arrived was my beautiful Kiron Scandium and Elite Workstand.

Can I just say if you can get the cash together and they have your size you really need to buy the Kiron while wiggle still do them. The thing is so light and incredibly beautifully finished. My only gripe was that there were no dust caps on the valves. I bolted my new Dave Hinde sourced Ultrga pedals in and the thing is awesome.

    Buy one.

    Specialized Rockhopper Pro Disc 08
  • I bought a 9 A/H motorbike battery (weighs 4kg) connected to a 55w halogen driving lamp
complete with intelligent battery charger total cost £92

a bright light that runs for 90 mins before recharge

    wunderlights
  • Rummaged through the bargain bin at Halford's last night and came up with:

Polaris padded undershorts 50p down from £14.99
Bikehut cycle cleaning brush set £3 down from £9.99
Action Man Atom kids padded gloves £1 down from £4.99

There was a Shimano WH-535 front wheel, no skewer, £10. Might go back and get it, you can never have too many wheels!
No-one wanted to eat Patagonia Toothfish so they renamed it Chilean Sea Bass and now it's in danger of over fishing!
  • Due to my old SPD-R's starting to fail I have had to change pedals and bought a pair of Time's RXS Impact pedals, then I couldn't stop myself and ended up with a pair of Assos F1 bibs, Sidi Genius's, loads of socks and a new Timex watch as my battery stopped  Now all I have to do is get home early enough to intercept the card that will probably be left

But I did resist the Colnago Extreme Power frameset (for now anyway)
